  1. Strange commuting problem

I think if you move the bus stop that is directly acroos the street from the mansion down to the corner across from City Hall your sim will start riding the bus. Also try building a street from the two jobless houses on the upper right dirctly down to the road by the high school and place a bus stop on that corner. I have no logical explanation for this but my experience with SimCity tells me this should work.
  2. Sim City - City Names

These are my cities and towns. Bayview Jericho North Meridian Massacre Iroquoise Hills Iron Mountain Mansion Kettle Pass Avalanche Indian Ridge Frying Pan Kevin's Bend Jamestown Aunt Jennyville
  3. Will you buy it?

I'm very excited about this game. Monte Cristo seems to be sticking to the real concepts of city building. The buildings so far are very beautiful and realistic. Also they don't have the attitude that they are bigger than their customers. Yes, I will buy it.
  4. How do you feel about the SCS announcement?

I'm extremely disappointed and I WON'T BUY IT!!!
  5. Monorail vs subway

As much as possible I try to use all types of transit in my cities except GLR which I don't like. I especially like to use monorail lines as they are very popular with my sims and make a tidy profit to boot.
  6. Power/Garbage

If your city is fairly large you will probably need several of them. I usually tuck them away in pairs in one or two of the corners away from any residential area.
  7. Stupid MySims...

I agree with you that the sims are very stupid. But after years of trying I think I finally know what' s going on. Lately whenever my sim complains about something I treat it as a complaint from the entire city. when my sim complains about commute time I try to reduce commute time overall for the entire city. For complaints about health or education I add a hospital or a school not near my sim's residence but where I feel it is needed. Believe it or not this has worked for me. My last several cities have been my best ever.
  8. Multi-City Difficulties

You might also try sprinkling some trees over the area in god mode while you run the game. This usually works for me to get the housing started.
  9. Multi-City Difficulties

I would try plopping a firehouse in the residential city, since their big complaint is safety.
  10. Multi-City Difficulties

I think I see the problem. On the bottom edge of the first picture there is a power connection that does not appear to be long enough. Try removing 2 sections of street and reconnect the power line to the industrial neighbor. I believe connections will not work unless the extend three squares into the city.
  11. What was your first ever game & your gaming history?

The first game I ever played was Galacctic Conquest on a Commodore Vic20. Back then games were on cassette tapes and you had to wait as long as 10 minutes for your game to load LOL.
  12. long commute??????where?

Do you have any bus stops? No matter how small my cities are, I always install bus stops from the very beginning in order to avoid the problem you're having.
  13. Rate my city!

Pretty cool, but I didn't see any avenues. Also everything is laid out in rectangles. Still, it's a very pretty town. On a scale of 10 I give it 8.
  14. The Best Towns In America

yes, Statusquo80, it is possible to be in love with a city and for me it is also NYC where I was born.
  15. I always start with a bus system and a rail line and expand them until I have about 80k-100k population. By then some of the bus stops are saturated so i begin replacing them with subway stops. At this time I usually begin building an elevated subway line from a suburb to the center of the city. I later extend this line from the city center to another suburb usually on the opposite side of the city. As my city city expands i continue to build bus stops and replace them with other transit when necessary. My transit systems are usually big money makers. At around 200k sims I usually begin a massive urban renewal project to clear a path for a monorail line. I use my monorail more like an elevated subway but I double the distance between stops. my monorail lines are usually wildly popular with my sims and and always get heavy usage. My medium and large cities almost always have all types of transport as this provides income for many city improvements.
  16. River City

Just beautiful, it reminds me of downtown New York City where I grew up.
  17. lost all my stuff

recently all my files were destroyed by a virus which invaded my computer. I had to reformat my drive and wasn't able to save any of my cities and regions. many of my regions were designed using a program called land designer that I downloaded from the net. I don't remember where I got it. Does anyone know this program and where to get it?
  18. lost all my stuff

I am kicking myself for not having saved my cities and regions on cd as suggested here, but rest assured I have learned my lesson and it will never happen again. Although my cities and towns were not very extraordinary I was quite proud of my efforts. Thank you, Sykstring, that is indeed the program I've been looking for and thanks to everyone for the help and advice.
  19. OK I GIVE UP!!!

Soldyne, I usually start with all taxes set at 9%. When I get to about 15,000 sims I lower $$ taxes to 8.9. Then I just watch the RCI demand graph and make sure that R$$ always has the highest demand. It's a bit of a juggling act because you have to make sure they all stay in the positive. Also you don't want to go too low, you still have a city to run.
  20. OK I GIVE UP!!!

Soldyne, your problem may be that your tax structure is making your city too attractive to $$$ sims. You may be drawing in too many of them to employ. Remember that $$$ sims are usually the CEO's and managers and the great majority of employees are usually $$ and $ sims. my taxes always favor $$ sims and I still seem to draw enough $$$ and $ to maintain a good balance and consequently not much abandonment.

  22. The United States of Westernland. 10-5-08!

I love this cj. Your towns and cities are so typical of rl USA. Keep up the good work.
  23. The United States of Westernland. 10-5-08!

Beautiful update. I can hardly wait for that region view.
  24. The United States of Westernland. 10-5-08!

Impressive update. Centerburg is very beautiful. I also like very much the seawall arrangement in Cathrine Bay. Keep up the good work.
  25. The United States of Westernland. 10-5-08!

Nice update. I like the overpass into Evergreen Pines Raceway. If you try using one of the tunnel and slope mods from the STEX your roads will not look so bumpy.
