What is your favorite form of transportation for your city?
Zeck180 posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
The question just popped into my head for whatever reasons. But my favorite though does take up space is rail, can take loads of traffic, high capacity (i've reached 30k on one line). Though when it comes to just save space and time, it would be subway. -

I hope you don't put the crazy interchanges in your downtown areas. The take too much land. That is one thing I don't get when I play why do I enjoy making a traffic nightmare in my down town areas all the time, I put interchanges in my DTs (down towns) some times and it works out well, mainly when I pre-planned the down town it does. -

unless you're strapped for cash don't continue with the tram system, plus anyways you need to connect that tram system to ether the subway system of elevated rail, so you sims can commute to work. Building tram lines are expensive and time consuming not to mention frustrating. However though trams unlike railways don't take up space if you use them on tram-on-street, but there is one draw back to trams, unlike subways and rails, they don't have much capacity. I have a city of 420k and only use my trams in my downtown, and each station is over capacity three times. For right now i'd stop the tram network you have it at, until you see how many sims use it.

Gemsbrook, Myto Gemsbrook is the largest city is the nation of West Guiana which it is the capital of. The city was founded in 1592 by Sir Winston Gems, who founded the settlement which named it Gemstown which was latter changed to Gemsbrook for no apparent reason the population at this time was only 58. In its early years the settlement flourished from trade that came up the St. Johns River on which the settlement was situated on. In the year 1789 the city population now 134,000 strong became the newly created provenience of Myto's capital, after this the cities population boomed and only 50 years later in 1839 the city boasted some 978,000 people. Since then the city has continued to grow and in 1932 the city became the set of power of the new nation of West Guiana. Now in 2011 the city is still growing and is the nations cultural city. Sir Winston Gems I haven't started the city yet, this is just a nice little intro for you all .

Well one thing is for sure, if you want your cities again to look amazing, like many I'd suggest you take a look around the STEX. Well those are BAT buildings and addons to the game that players like you and I, created to make the game more realistic, The roads you see might be part of ether NAM or Real Highway Modd. Down load what you'd want to make your city be realistic, nearly every download involves Zip files. -

Weestly City of Trains Hello and I'd like to welcome you to our beautiful city of Weestly, I am Sally West mayor for twenty-three years now. When I became mayor of Weestly the city was in financial ruin and a declining population of 34,000, now here I am 23 years later still moving this city forward. We are a city of progress of 340,000, Weestly is unlike no other city of it's size in stead of our streets full of congestion it's our railroads that take the heavy burden, more than 180,000 citizens everyday take ether the train, subway or tram to work, including my self. Now on with the tour! This first building of the city I'd like to show you is our city hall, built in 1927 it is one of the oldest buildings in the city. At 26 floors it was from 1924 to 1929 the tallest building in our city, I can tell you that having my office at the top is one heck of a view Now one thing you may be asking, why do we call our selves the city of Trains, well below are two small examples: Last year the city planners had discussed whether to replace all 45 miles of railway with monorails or more elevated trains to help ease congestion on the busy city streets that intersect with the railway, well as you could maybe have guessed it didn't go well with the citizens, in a city wide vote to decide to move on with the plans 78,000 voted no while only 3,000 voted yes. So since then we have abandoned the plans and keep laying down the rails every time we expand Now we are more than rails, Weestly is also has a large financial district one at each end of the city each respectively named Downtown and uptown. This here is downtown or commonly referred to as old downtown, because in 1978 city planners and the city council planned a new downtown on the south end of the city which was to help commuters get to work faster. In more recent years though the Old Down Town area has seen some revitalization with newer buildings being built, however though the traffic both street and rail has yet to be solved. Now moving along these next pictures are of the Uptown area home to the City Life Towers, tower 1 has been built bu the second one is in the works right now expected to start construction early next year. City Life Tower is 115 floors tall and can be seen for miles. This here is an older picture of the Uptown area before the 102 floor Meco Building was built. Ahhh, a nice postcard picture: Well be for I end this portion of the tour I'll leave you with some nice areal view of the city at night. . The next tour we'll go and take a look at the metro system of our dear and beloved city.

Weestly City of Trains Were I left you off was the sky line of Weestly and back then we only had 340,000 people, today that number is standing near 430,000, since then the sky also has dramatically changed and that's where I'll begin. Here below is the construction of the new City Life Plaza Tower 2 building, tower one was shown already the one directly below this picture is the finished project. Parks Here is Karl Simarx Park where the Weestly Reds play. There have been for many years to have the named changed to something different, since the park is named after the creator of communism. Named after the cities founder James S. Weestly park is the cities largest and by far most visited, right in the center is a 30 foot tall statue of James Weestly. However though with-in the next year or so this statue will be moved on the other side of the park as the Freemore Expressway will be constructed through here on way to the new downtown area. Finally this is part of our River front project to encourage more people to visit the Weestly River. Transit As you can tell we wouldn't call our selves the city of trains for no reason: The South Side Station is the busiest with over 25,000 people using it daily located just outside of the down town area If this intersection wasn't congested as it was, this McDons didn't help matters. When the city was laying out the plans for the new down town area in the 70s they didn't want any steam trains rolling down un sightly tracks, so they turned to trams, which looks much nicer: Just this year Weestly is going through a massive over haul of its railroad system, because we have had one to many complaints about congestion when the trains roll over the roads. So we have started a 1.2 million dollar over haul of the current system : Before After Ever wanted to know what a traffic jam on the rail road looks like?(We've got lots of them every day.) High way planning and construction Heres where the Freemore Expressway phase one will start:

Most of my congestion is on the rail ways, I have a 20,000 cap. train station and it's running at 304% capacity! Not enough space to put a new one in.

Mass transportation strategies?
Zeck180 replied to Sgt_Strider's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
If you lay enough rail down it will almost eliminate your road congestion less yellows and reds. don't use only subs and avenues or else you'll see massive traffic jams during rush hour. Use rail ways though they may take up space they can hold more commuters and less strain on your intersections. I have a 340k+ city that is fully made of rails and street traffic 50 to 70% less than it would be if I only used streets and subways. -
How Do You Put Your Downloads On SC4
Zeck180 replied to Treka's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
(I have a PC) (After you've downloaded the zip flies) Go into "My computer" find where it says "My documents" scroll down until you find a folder that says SC4(Sim City 4), double click where it says "plugins" and find another folder inside that that says plugins double click that and open the zip file click on "Extract all files" and put the files that are needed into the plugin folder. -
Or if the congestion is so bad it's expensive but invest in mass transit(Subways, train stations, bus stops) thinking forward into the future.

One thing that annoys me the most is that the cars don'normally stop when the crossing gates go down on the railroad including trams. -
Other than your nations own(de facto) what nations anthem would be your favorite? (if you can't have just one list them all!) nation, UN recognized(ex. US, UK, Serbia), Partially recognized (Ex. Republic of China(Taiwan), Kosovo) or even those micro-nations. =========================================== For some reason even though I'm from the US some of my more fav. anthems are from countries the US never really liked or still doesn't. Along with a few of the US's BFFs. (random order) East Germany ^ Crappy governments but good anthems. (sure there's more) <--- replaced by http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_U8dv-3ODI, the first is Gaddafi's the second is the supposed new one for the Libyan Republic
