River Basin: The region where anything could happen
smirkazor replied to smirkazor's topic in SC4 City Journals
Ok, update time, through tis update i wont be showing 'development' so to speak, but transportation network, my aim of confluential is to make it an inland hub for ships, transporting most of the regions industry, so to make this happen, we need a decent harbour, here is the start of the development, i'v decided to change from the sunken highways so far shown to elevated, due to the lack of flexibility with the unken highway set i have. Now we have most of the transportation already built, no point in showing you how i made it, pointless, and waste of space really , better just to show you what it looks like. You can also see basically the whole city so far. As we zoom in you can see more clearly how its all set out, this part of the harbour will be quite thin, as to maximize the width of the river, so not to disrupt its natural flow. You can see that the highway is incomplete, a new extension is to be built in the form of a golden gat bridge to span this width of the river, but this means it will spilt the harbour in two, to solve this probelm an underwater road was put forward to get past the bridge, and here is how it was made in a sequnce of photo's. Here is a picture of what it looks like now, the zones may change if i feel it is neccissary, but at this time it stands at what you see. Thats all from me today, hope you like what you see, more on the rest of the harbour when i return with the next installment. Any comments would be great, as i love to hear what you think, and any tips on how to make my cj more presentable would be lovely, as it does look quite a bit bland from all i've seen of others with newspapers and the such. thank you. yeh, i seem to be having trouble loading those last few pictures too, they only seem to be half loading :S, but i did exactly the same on the ones before, maybe its a fluke, anyway, thnx for the comments. Philscafe: well, about the region improving, not quite so, i dont know if u already know but half of the original region was lost due to re-formatting, and all the poages from 11 onwards i believe are all the new stuff, hope u keep coming bk. GMT: i really get a kick out of what people think of my projects i do, and the stuff i create, and it makes me improve on things that people dont quite like, in all making it all better, anyway, update v soon, probably tonight, hopefully -

i'm not much 1 to comment on other cj's, but my god i have to comment on this 1. I think this is one hell of a cj, the way you make your updates is quite unique, i wouldnt have the patience really to do something like that, wish i could, then i might get more comments on my cj, which is kinda bare recently. Anyway, you region looks quite amazing, i love the way you have done the mountain range, and how you have integrated the city into it, really looks quite realistic for something in canada (i live in england btw. all i gotta say, dont stop doing what it is ur doing, because it works so well, and goodluck, probably will be a while before i reply again. i have a tendancy to dissapear for about a month from time to time . PART #3 Sorry for all the parts, just keep having problems and having to wait a while then do some more, so without further a dew here we are. Here is, step by step process, if u dont know already, on how to make an under water tunnel first step is to align where the tunnel will be going and to build a land bridge from one end to the other until you are able to build a tunnel through that land bridge from one side to the other as shown and all you need to do now is just take away the ;and bridge without destroying the tunnel entrances and there you have it, a lovely underwater tunnel you can see it work from the fact that there are cars going from one side to the other as indicated by the green line. and just to finnish off, the zones for the next development Smirkazor -

PART #2 Right then, this is part 2, and will be quite a biggen, first of all, the main highway system that will go through the heart of this area, and as i said before, i've been doing some work with sunken highways , and as you will see. here is a better view of what the sunken highway looks like, and i've started to integrate the rail network to reach both sides of the highway, and to do that i have created small tunnels, to allow road and other such transportations as well, e.g. el-rail. In this picture you will see the area that i will be developing on. and another closeup -

PART #1 Right, so far, since i've been back, i have been showing you my latest development away from where i started, which i'm still pissed off about loosing half of it, but hey, things like that happen, anyway, i've shwon you the making of suburbia and mt st helaina, really with all these, i've been experimenting with focusing the surrounding development with a centralised commercial district, which many of you know already, i havent really been doing, its all in my aim to try and make it as realistic as possible, yet maintaining a kinda look into the future. So now i have moved onto a different city, to try and complete this centralised development. Here is a picture to start things off, as you will see, i've started to dable in the sunken highways, and i gotta say, i love it, especially with this eye candy set from 3ddz i will post part 2 of this update, once i have sorted out all my pictures into the right format, bla bla bla. Hello, and welcome, today we will be looking at mt st helaina, people who have seen my cj in the past, the volcano might look a bit different, it sorta erupted in the time i was away , but i kinda dont have a full view pic yet, so gona have to wait for that one, anyway, basically this area will be basically residential, with all the commercial in suburbia, i started off making it follow on from suburbia with building on the hill in kind of steps. I spent some time recently collecting some great bats to put in my cities, and as you can see in the pic, i have found some nice looking rail stations. http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/8365/mtsthelaina13uz.jpg align=baseline> next we see more residential with the new highway passing from suburbia straight through towards the major cities. http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/1183/mtsthelaina24ka.jpg align=baseline> i've been using rail alot recently and is the main mode of transport around this area, its kinda been my main focus, as you will see. This is basically just some more development, this is all just straight forward development, nothing too special. http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/8320/mtsthelaina31bn.jpg align=baseline> http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/5336/mtsthelaina45eg.jpg align=baseline> http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/3610/mtsthelaina51wu.jpg align=baseline> Things are really starting to take hold, medium density is on the rise, and new low rise flats are being built. http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/6066/mtsthelaina66wp.jpg align=baseline> The last pieces of flat land have now been zoned, with connections to both suburbia and the neighbouring areas, and here are the final pictures as mt st helaina now stands both day and night. http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/3968/mtsthelaina71hm.jpg align=baseline> http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/2549/mtsthelaina88ll.jpg align=baseline> There you have it, looks nice, next on the agenda is a new founded city just south of suburbia is the city of Confluence, got some nice stuff with that to come, so stay tuned. (comments will really help me improve anything i do, so please dont hesitate) Smirkazor -
River Basin: The region where anything could happen
smirkazor replied to smirkazor's topic in SC4 City Journals
woah only 2 comments . well, i have just about done all i can at the moment on suburbia, so here are the final pictures. Near the end of the development on suburbia, i changed things around a little bit, like adding new rail links with extralines to reduce congestion, and even go as far as swapping a residential sector with a commercial one, as you can see from this pic, basically to keep all the commercial near the centre. You can really see the contrast in development. Now here we have the finnishing pictures, this is the whole view of suburbia, (well maybe not all of it, but its the main part) both day and night, as it so stands now. hope ya like what ya see. Thats all for suburbia for the time being, next will be situated just to the east of suburbia, called mt st Helaina, being at the base of the now extinct volcano strangely enough called mt helaina Smirkazor -

River Basin: The region where anything could happen
smirkazor replied to smirkazor's topic in SC4 City Journals
Only 1, lil bit slow, hope it gets busyer. Anyway its time for another update, i was last talking about big plans for the area of suburbia, and it had been agreed to be a large commercial sector linked by highway and rail to the surrounding residents that are expected to arrive. as well as a new industrial sector located to the north west. so first the industrial sector. Here is an overall plan of the zones. The land had to be levelled out in order to properly lay out everything, new rail links have been established due to this development and will bring in new simoleons to the city. Dirty industry was the first to take hold. not a pretty sight, but brings in the cash needed. and in 22 years, the site is now hold to some of the most high-tech facilities in the whole of RiverBasin, and with that, comes dramticly reduced pollution, wahey. During that time, suburbia had grown, filling almost all of the available land available. New suburban areas to the north, due to the quantity of jobs are in development. An over view look at the development. Thats all for this update, more to come later on today, a few comments may help it come even faster , so i will leave u now with a few night pics. Railways in suburbia are busier than ever as you can observe by this very, very, very, very long train. Well isnt that nice, [:0] i wonder where that highway is going (neat going under a suburbian area) (and theres that long train again, man thats big) Hope u enjoyed the sights, until nextime toodles Smirkazor -

hey guys, been doing some more work on suburbia, and its looking as good as ever, i will start off where i left off, and i believe i was building a new rail line branching off the main line into a new commercial zone. due to the increase in demand for new residential areas, new space for commercial is needed to satisfy demand. heres an overview. suburbia is becomeing more and more attractive for residents wanting to escape the crowded cities of maxwell-multinational, and baskingville. The rate of development is going ever faster, with a new allocated zone of medium housing. BIG plans have been made for suburbia and the surrounding areas, and to start off, a better transportation route is needed to link the surrounding areas, and what better to use than one of my famous radical highway systems that you all know and love with some more commercial development, as jobs will be scarce in the future if development keeps on as it is. i will leave it at that for the moment, wait for a few comments and i will carry on with another update. ty. River Basin: The region where anything could happen
smirkazor replied to smirkazor's topic in SC4 City Journals
Welcome to page 12! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! page 12 rocks my soxors!, uh yeah heres a collection of photo's to show where i am at. ok the first pic is just a reminder of whrre my last post left off. As suburbia is growing bigger and bigger the roads are becoming somewhat, crowded so a new avenue has been suggested and aproved by the city council, the road in question lies directly next to the latest transportation scheme to be introduced to suburbia, that is the main elevated rail line that is to be the way forward for the development of this city. first of all the road needs to be demolished to makeway for the new avenue that is to be built is built. next a new branch off the main line is needed for a new extention in the CBD for easy accsess from the furthest reaches in suburbia. Then the layout of the extension is put in place, it might not be very big, but it is important as a new small residential development is expected to take place. Thats all for this update, a new one will follow shortly, hope u like what i am doing atm, a definate change from my usual work, which has sadly been taken away from me cos of changing computers smirkazor -

thnx for the reply Aleking, i like my mass transit to well time for another update, i will just show a few pics of suburbia to what it looks like now. first off the main reason for why i am building suburbia is to practice my suburbs, so any tips would be helpfull to help me make my suburbs a better place to live. This first picture is of a new suburban area to be built http://img57.echo.cx/img57/7071/suburbianumber16rk.jpg align=baseline> i got the idea of my layout of my suburbs from TJD's very long, long, long, long city journal, cant rememebr who said it and cant rememebr on what page it was, and like im gonna go search through 46 or so pages to find out, anyway its not my idea, thats that. http://img57.echo.cx/img57/136/suburbia3may1511182734153nl.jpg align=baseline> and this is what the whole thing looks like and a closer pic for more detail. http://img57.echo.cx/img57/8538/suburbianumber29bx.jpg align=baseline> http://img57.echo.cx/img57/790/suburbianumber37qc.jpg align=baseline> It looks very pleasent and calm doesnt it, im quite proud of how my suburbs look. Now my last pic of this update is of another suburb that i built just to the top of that commercial area that u can see in the other pics. http://img57.echo.cx/img57/4090/suburbianumber53no.jpg align=baseline> i thought i might as well do a bit of class into these suburbs so i developed some very posh houses segregated from the others with lovely lines of trees, how nice. That all for now. Suburbia, the suburbs of suburbs. Smirkazor -

Hello and welcome to a new update on my new city suburbia, i have done quite a bit from the last picture so lets get to it. River Basin: The region where anything could happen
smirkazor replied to smirkazor's topic in SC4 City Journals
hello everybody on simtropolis! i know its been a while but i am back, but with some grave news, recently i have needed to reformatt my compter as i now have a brand spankin new one, but the thing is i didnt manage to save my River Basin region before my old one got reformatted so i have lost all of my most recent work on baskingville, which was the last lot of updates i did, half of yamamoto and everything except the highway layout of Rickennington. But that will not stop me from starting over again! Riverbasin will return to its once glourious gloriousness, it will rise from the ashes and become even better! So to start off i have begun a fresh on a different part of the region so i can get my mind off the stuff i have lost, this new city is called Suburbia, i will be starting off small, just to get myself back into the mood of sc4 from my long, long, long hybernation away from it all, so here is some pictures of what has gone on so far, as u can guess from the name it will be mainly suburbs, cos i know some people say, hey where are your suburbs or it would be more realistic if there were suburbs or i thought u wernt going to do another concrete jungle. so here we are. http://img105.echo.cx/img105/6660/suburb8wm.jpg align=baseline> sorry its greyscale, thought it might look cool, anyway those things in the boxes r the train stations, looks nice for a suburb. Much more to come. Smirkazor -

smirkazor replied to smirkazor's topic in SC4 City Journals
Im not aiming to make it realistic in like the beginnig, like most people do, atm i am doing all the built up areas, so when i start to build upstream, things will get more spaced out and lower density, i'm aiming for the end result to be realistic, not the process to get there, but thnx for the comment, now no-one else will ask it again . U can see what i mean by the lower desnity stuff witha tad of high in the pics shown, when it get nearer completion u will see. New update tomorrow, gonna make it a gooden. smirkazor -
impressive jo, u have really outdun urself on storyline this time, very good, like the way that u transition into each age, cool indeed, keep up the work. smirkazor

Hey again, thought i'd might as well do another update, seeing as i like all u simtropians, these next pics are the further development of the expansion of the city of baskingville. This new expansion will be mainly be built up of residential/commercial areas, as there is a shortage. This first pic shows the new built up shore line, with all commercial, which should in time be able to support the growing population. New residential area/commercial. Overview of new development. Whole city view. Night view. Thats all the pics i have for today, but will have more by sunday, so untill then, pls comment when possible, i would like feedback wether or not it is good or bad opinions, any will help me to see what i am doing right and what needs work, so please comment, keep tuned in. smirkazor -
River Basin: The region where anything could happen
smirkazor replied to smirkazor's topic in SC4 City Journals
I will begin the latest update on riverbasin will be the city of Baskingville, Baskinville was the second city to be founded in the life of riverbasin, Baskingville is the industrial capital of River Basin, and is a major manufactuar of anything industrial, and is backed by the fair trade organisation, development around Baskingville has been quite slow, and has periodically stopped. This was mainly because all the regions recourses was put to the construction of the capitals to secure a foothold in the riverbasin nation. Now that they have been completed, development has begun once again, at the moment just the basic road layouts and transportation systems have been laid for an extension to the city on the mainland. This pic is of the regions largest rail station. and soon to be the main hub for rail usage once open to the public Next we have other views of the transportation layout of the new development. i know its not much, but wait till the building starts, more updates to come soon, so stay tuned. smirkazor -
