Date:8/11/2004 5:45:05 PM Author:Dargor Looks really great and interesting! It's cool to see my own country represented here in the shape of a SC4-creation. The city-names are charming as well. how did you get those Dutch cows? quote> Thanx a lot once again for you replies!! The cows are on the STEX; it's a park lot by Nexis https://www.simtropolis.com/lots/index.cfm?mode=files&filetype=all&startrow=19&Str=nexis Frosties 0258: it's not that I don't have respect for Flemings; our three friends just didn't meet one till now! It might be possible that they get in contact with Flemings, why not? After all, you have to understanf that

It's called the Waterflora mod, and I found it on http://gizmo.lunarpages.com/

Date:8/10/2004 4:32:19 PM Author:flrscf Date: 8/10/2004 4:06:16 PM Author: Casper3141 this is just awesome, great story, great terrain, great towns, great updates you are gettin bunnies for sure EDIT:Where did you get that region anyways it looks really good quote> I think utora created his region by his self!quote> Indeed, I created it myself! When the region becomes more densely populated, an my cj more developped, I promise I'll put it on the MEX Thank you all for al those fantastic replies! I never thought I'd get such positive comments!! Btw, the next updates will take some time. I have to study for a very important exam by the end of August; but please be patient! I'm just getting started...
  4. Sounds good! I think there will be plenty of interest for such a tutorial; personally I got much inspiration out of Nexis of Genesis. Now THAT's terraforming! Elevated to a whole new level! And you're right, it's one of the more entertaining parts of the game, if not challenging... A good terrain makes such a huge difference to the looks of a region! So.. you have my support!
  5. O and I forgot, maybe another factor in this might be the use of the waterflora mod http://gizmo.lunarpages.com/ , which makes the water transparant. I used it with the Joerg waterpack (caribbean setting) to create the waters. With the rainmod used in the way described above, I got these results. Maybe you can try that!
  6. Date:8/10/2004 12:25:58 AM Author:MrCinatit And Now, A Word From Our Sponsor for one thing, your English is better than many of us who use the language regularly, utora. and no, you're not breaking any rules in asking me how i did that. for quite a while, i had been trying to use the rain tool to create a flood in an uneven terrain like this - completely unsuccessfully, may I ad. Finally, today when i was getting ready to do this journal, i decided to have another go at it. At the zoom farthest away, i just used the rain tool, used the shift key to get optimal spread, and held both keys for...oh...let's say 10 minutes. i did this twice (i had to go back in to get another picture). both times, the flooding pattern was the same, so i guess that is as good as it gets - unfortunately, it flooded some of the terrain, but not the lots, which is why the pics look pretty goofy. fortunately, many of the homes and roads were still destroyed from the previous journal entries. btw, you can use the God-mode terrain tools even while in mayor mode by pushing 'Shift'+'Ctrl'+'Alt', while pushing the menu for God-mode...all at the same time. the key seems to be holding down the key for a very, very, very, very, very long time, though (wonder what would happen if i held it down for an hour...besides a serious cramp in my hands). i'll have to take a look to see what you've done in New Holland...i like that journal. quote> I had that same problem you're talking about. I thought you used the arctic mod, but I think I see what happened now. First thing: you've got to lower the terrain as much as possible, to just ONE click above waterlevel. This has to be done VERY precisely, otherwise you'll get this (I suppose that's what happened in your case): Pic1: the terrain isn't lowered enough. If you get this, get back without saving and try again. Pic 2: the terrain is lowered one tiny mouseclick further; it's now the lowest possible level. If you use the rainmod now, it will have the result you're longing for! (And you don't have to press the button for 10 min; 10 sec must be enough!) About the Godmode: I tried the cheat, but it didn't work. The Godmode didn't appear. I'm not sure if I understand what you mean here: do I have to type the 'Shift'+'Control'+'Alt' while at the same time pressing the God-button? I thought with I had to activate the cheat first by pressing 'Ctrl'+'Shift'+'Alt'+'x', and then 'Ctrl'+'Alt'+'Shift' for the Godmode. Anyway, this is what I tried and it didn't function

Wonderful job you've done here! Echt geweldig! I really hope you continue produsing these houses, because I will definitely use them in my New Holland cj! Hope I have no problems with the files; keep up!!
  8. now this is a coincidence! Two cj-updates on one day which reported about a major flood! The roaring waters didn't leave New Holland untouched either; (apologies for the bad English here, although I don't think anyone will mention it, regarding all those stupid farmer-quotes..) Anyway: I've got a question: did you use the arctic terrain mod for those floods? Or am I violating the integrity of your journal by asking this question? Seems like we have the same problem here: how to simulate a flood realistically. The only way I could simulate one was by using the rain mod ( www.teirusu.net ); but I could only manage that in God-mode, which means that I can't show flooded towns, only terrain. You solved the problem quite well, because of the black/white pics) Do you (perhaps) have any idea how to simulate a flood in another way? Maybe it should be suggested on ST to create a new mod for this purpose..

Date:8/9/2004 5:41:00 PM Author:flrscf Where did you get those streams btw?quote> I knew someone was gonna ask about that; on the STEX there's a PEG texture-pack available (just type PEG in the search engine). Since I don't have any PEG-lots I had to think of something else. With the lot-editor I placed the base-textures on a custom1x1 lot

Thanx! Btw, it's sad that there isn't a BAT available for De Kuip don't you think? (I'm talking English so everyone can read)

When Paul arrived in Nederburg aan de Messel (transl Nederburg on the Messel), he quickly ran from house to house to spread the news. Within moments the church-bell was sounding through the town. Nederburg was a cosy community on the banks of the Messel, and prospered because of good farming conditions. Already the first windmill was built to regulate the irrigation of the farmlands. Courier provided some pics: Nederburg's first windmill: A canal-system is currently being constructed: Cows are grazing peacefully in the grasslands: Windmills are very useful for regulating the irrigation of the surrounding farmland: The towncenter, with surrounding farmlands: All the residents gathered on the church-square, to listen what this messenger had to say.

Update 4: dream & disaster The following day, Paul woke up. He remembered dreaming of New Holland again, although he wasn

Date:8/9/2004 6:09:59 AM Author:catweazle_touchwood I still love the story. BTW, where can I find that neat little church I saw? Could find it (or didn't search well) on the STEX. quote> It's St. Mary's church. I think you can find it in the Landmarks-section of the STEX; it's definitely there Anyways, The next update is coming soon!! Lutjemark: about the names: I had some moments of inspiration I guess, btw Lutjemark would be an excellent name for a town too Thank you all for the positive reactions! And, it's fun to see so many Dutchies out there! Cheerz
  14. Wow! You've got some storytelling skills man!! Your story's very amusing, and you know very well how to keep your public interested!! I hope this cj will be a great inspiration for many! (I know it is for me). As soon as the first regional newspaper appears in New Holland, I'll inform the residents about this cj. I love the black/white pics, especially the grungy look of some. This is no doubt one of the best and most original cj's at the moment, and I'll keep following it. I also love the terrain; All I wanna say is: Keep up!
  15. NEW HOLLAND Journal

Thanx a lot! It gives me a good feeling that you're all so enthousiastic! Btw, of course you can make these waters; just read closely what I said about the mods I used...
  16. NEW HOLLAND Journal

You were quick with your comments!!! Sorry for the false start; O and btw it's called update 3 now, but it's the same as 2 (but you can see... erhm.. read that) But at least I know that it crashes sometimes. It won't happen again. Better slow than no pics I'd say Still I really because of these problems....
  17. NEW HOLLAND Journal

edit: update 2 has been removed. The pictures didn't show up because I misposted them; anyway: update 3 contains exactly the same info, so nothing is missing, I just accidentily named it update 3 instead of 2; have fun NOTE: i have some problems hosting pics offsite. All seems correct, but after the upload the pics won't show up in the cj!! (at least i can't see them) So... I've done the whole thing again, sorry for this mess, but i hope you understand that i have to post it again to be sure everyone can see it! Update 3 At this point, the story becomes increasingly complex. We saw the two friends Bart and Mark, who decided to stay in Donkerven for a while; and Paul who has his own thoughts and planning his own journey now. Still, all three of them were tracked down by Courier, who provides the pictures and the last updates. However, Courier has to make a choice: does he also stay in Donkerven, or will he follow Paul on his way to the northern villages in the Messel Delta? He decided to keep track of Paul, as he left in the middle of the night... ATH o:extrusionok=f gradientshapeok=t o:connecttype=rect>ATH> On his map, Paul planned to go to Arenburg, and see what it was like. To keep you informed as good as possible, I
  18. Nexis of Genesis

Thanx! Should have looked on other sites more! I'll definitely will give it a try, cause it looks stunning! What also looks very realistic is what I use in my cj: waterflora mod (which makes the water transparent) in combination with Joerg's waterpack (caribbean blue setting); This makes the water look almost like a holiday pic! And it's realistic too, because you can see the the seebottom, with slidely different shades of blue. If you use only Joerg's setting, the water looks too much like in a cartoon i think Anyway, thanx for your reply and i will surely read the entire story soon! I made a start with it a few months ago, and read all about the planet's erliest days, but somehow I lost track of the story, although it has always remained tempting to me. O, and btw, if you feel like it, take a look at my cj! I'm very curious about your meaning (since you know the game through and through and design your own lots as well) Cheerz
  19. Nexis of Genesis

This is by far one of the most original cj's I've ever seen. And it's really an epic story too! It's quite an accomplishment to update a cj 25 pages long! I haven't read all of it, but after I've passed some exams by the end of the month, I'll read every single word of it; For now, there's one question I really need an answer to: in the first pages of your journal you show some terrain-pics. On some of them, you see a swamp-like terrain, with trees and bushes growing in the water; I was wondering, how did you do that? Forgive me if this question's been asked before
  20. NEW HOLLAND Journal

Thanx! I can assure you that some other citynames are much weirder. I think some of them you can't pronounce if you're not Dutch. But I'll translate it all! Btw Courier told me that Turtle Bay is actually full of turtles. At night they come out of the sea and lay eggs in the sand! Unfortunately there's no turtlemod available, so I can't show you.. You just have to take my word
  21. NEW HOLLAND Journal

Aha, I was aware of the 800x600 limit, but I guess I passed the 200k limit; thanx for the tip Thanks btw for your compliments, and all the other positive reactions!
  22. NEW HOLLAND Journal

Btw, I forgot to ask an important question; I'm not a very experienced user, so from time to time I run into some trouble with posting etc. I'd like to host my pics offsite, but don't know how to do that. Heard it's keeping the site faster And, is there a limit to the number of pics (or their size in kb) you can upload at once? I have chopped this day's part in three, cause otherwise I run into an upload-error
  23. NEW HOLLAND Journal

All they could do is travel to the nearest village, Donkerven, and try to find work there. After some hours they arrived. This is what it looks like: They thanked the truckdriver and shared some thoughts on what to do next. The village looked very pretty; there were some old remains of what once used to be a citywall with watchtowers. There were some farms and the people seemed friendly and curious. Bart and Mark preferred to stay here for a while. Find some work to do, and get used to the new way of living. But Paul had his own thoughts about it, although he didn
  24. NEW HOLLAND Journal

So, this is how the three adventurers started a search for gold and sheep! This is the route they took Again, they started walking. They walked for hours and hours, through hills and forests. There was nobody on the road and they began to wonder if the priest had lied to them. Finally a truck stopped, and the driver offered to take them to the Mine, and even to the small village of Donkerven if they wanted to; all he asked for was a nice story about windmills, cheese and tulips... Underway, they saw some very familiar things that reminded them of the good old days back home: When they finally reached the goldmine, they discovered that it was completely abandoned... Only in the nearby settlement lived some people..
