New Millington - A Simcity Societies city journal
htoeppner replied to needgames's topic in SC4 City Journals
Gee, you stay away for a day or two and there are two excellent updates for New Millington. Very nice progress indeed. I am glad that the Mayor wasn't strung up in the streets by vigilantes I see that they decided to retire and that a new Mayor has emerged, who seems to be doing a great job. I like the distinction of the 3rd district with paved streets and more imposing buildings like the Court House. The Zoo looks fantastic. I don't think I ever built one for any of my cities. Are those giraffes I see? Your choice of buildings, street layout and deliberate planning still amaze me. With the addition of your statistical data you provide us, the readers (fans), a terrific insight into how the game actually behaves and responds to the types of buildings placed. Kudos to needgames for digging into the game files and extracting that information. I too noticed that after a certain city size that new Police Stations are required to 'Serve and Protect'. Have you ever tried using the Police Boxes under Decorations ? I placed a few in Mega Habitat and one simizen stopped and stared at the flashing blue light for quite some time. LOL I hope that Gorilla that I've seen mentioned in the news crawl doesn't get loose. Herb -

needgames Another great update. The residents of New Millington should be thankful that the Mayor and city council are taking the time to provide them with social assistance to get them through the tough times. Watch out for the vigilantes from the neighboorhood watch, they may come looking for the mayor Your explanation in the beginning of how you keep detailed notes and statistics shows that your city building skills are far superior to anything that I have ever done. I just click and build and hope..... Ha hahahaaaa Herb -
Oh I see. Hmmm, I have no idea how you would do that. Perhaps someone else can help. Well for anyone trying to create a TOC this should work.

Hello I hope that this is an appropriate place for this. If it is covered in other threads elsewhere, I apologize. I've been asked in my City Journal "How did you create your Table of Contents ?" Well, I tried some of the methods that I found in other threads, but had no success with those. How I achieved this is quite easy, once you know my method. I hope that I can explain it clearly enough for others to follow. Of course, Your Mileage May Vary I will leave the actual content of your Table of Contents up to you. Basically you want to create an initial post that introduces your City Journal and insert some graphic buttons that the reader clicks on to get to the appropriate update (Chapter). How to insert graphics and create links is beyond the scope of this document. If you can't insert a picture or create a link, do a search on the Forums or look in the FAQ/help files for Simtropolis, there are instructions somewhere. First, start a New Topic post for your City Journal thread. This will be is used as a placeholder for your Table of Contents page. Enter whatever text and/or graphics to introduce your City Journal and Table of Contents. ** Do not enter any actual City Journal information. *** This will be added as a Reply later. Post the initial message into the Forum. Now what I do is Open Notepad, create a new blank TXT docuument and save it with a name that indicates the City Name, for example - Mega Habitat CJ.txt Next I will go and 'find' my post in the forum by looking in the Forum - City Journals buttons on the left hand side of the Simtropolis website. Click on the Title of your City Journal thread and it will take you to your initial TOC post. The link in the address bar looks something like this https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=36&threadid=94928&enterthread=y Your initial TOC post should be showing. Now take a look at the web page. Across the very top is the Simptropolis banner, next is a blue menu line with titles like - Simtropolis Home, Forum, Live Chat... etc. Look for a grey menu line that has displayed on the right hand side the titles - Who's Online : Latest Replies : Latest Topics : Statistics *** Remember this grey menu line, it will be used shortly. *** Now what I do is to look on the blue bar underneath the grey bar that has - FORUMS > City Journals > (whatever the Main Title of your initial post is) Click on the Main Title of your initial post, to the right of - FORUMS > City Journals > This will take you to the same thread, but it does clean up the web address bar to look like this - https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=36&threadid=94928 Basically it takes off the last part of the string (&enterthread=y) Now I am not a web developer or HTML expert at all, I have no idea what this last part does, and I don't really care. So now we can copy and paste the web address bar information into our Notepad TXT document. This is the website address that when entered into a web browser will take you to the very first post in your CJ thread. You may use this address to create a link in your signature line or give out to your friends to come and visit your CJ. I usually add a line above the link in Notepad so that it looks like this - Mega Habitat CJ - Main Link https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=36&threadid=94928

New Millington - A Simcity Societies city journal

Another great update. New Millington is really becoming a charming little city. I can't wait to see where it will go from here. I really like the limo, I haven't seen that yet in any of my cities. You have inspired me to go back and finish my own CJ - Mega Habitat (which pales in comparison to your journals) But at least I try Herb -

I look forward to your SCS CJ. Your attention to detail and view of the street life is spectacular. You have taken a seemingly lackluster game and turned it into something amazing. Your storyline and screenshot pictures take us, the readers, on a journey to a land that exists in your mind. And we are all excited to join you for that adventure. -
zero7 Great work on your CJ. A very nice looking city for sure. You take your time on the layout of your streets and make good use of the few Terrain tools available. Just curious, how did you create the Newspapers. Keep up the great work. Herb

Great start indeed. 2272, why that is the year I was born. Makes me want to dust off SC4 and run on over to the STEX and load up for a Holiday marathon of SC4 City Building I will say that there are as many different styles of C J's as there are threads. Looking forward to more.

needgames I have read a little more of this CJ and I must say that you should take up writing. I think that you would be fantastic at it, dare I say, maybe the next Stephen King ! He is one writer that (to me) can 'paint' a picture in my minds eye and take me along into the story. My favorite book is 'The Stand' I have read it at least a half dozen times. It is good to know that there is someone else out there that becomes 'completely sucked in' to playing computer games. I am sure that we are not alone. I have been trying to find City Life here in Vancouver, BC Canada, but have had no luck. I will look for it in an online shopping site. Amazon.CA has City Life - World Edition on back order for now. I did see it in a clear out bin a while ago, but when I went to look for it this week it was gone. Perhaps I should wait for Cities - Unlimitted but I really don't want to Altstadt is certainly an interesting variation of a City Journal. My ancestors are from Germany, an area they call Alscace. Whar brand of track is that, KATO? My railroad empire was to be modeled using N-Scale. I purchased about $500.00 worth of track and equipment, but circumstances changed and it is all in boxes. It was to be a 1 metre X 2 metre layout, with multiple runs and lots of switches or turnouts. I even attended some seminars on 'scenicing' my layout. Model Railroading is also 'all-consuming'. And now my brother wants me to sign up for FaceBook. There aren't enough hours in a day. I will check back soon to Mirabella and read some more of your very enjoyable story. Herb -

Originally posted by: needgames Thanks Skram, but it is not SCS this city is built with, it's City Life. Glad you like it anyway.quote> WOW ! ! and WOW ! ! I have just glanced at your CJ's using City Life. I am very impressed. Your story line is incredible. Are you a writer by any chance? How can you come up with so many words? My CJ's pale in comparision. I thought that I was a story-teller, but my hat is off to you. Ok no Hats Off Smiley, so a Thumbs Up instead. And, Altstadt looks very interesting. I too am a model railroader. I haven't done anything on that front for a long time (years). You are taking City Journaling to a whole new level. Who would have thought of a CJ using a model train. I have thought about playing City Life and you just may have swayed me to give it a shot. Isn't there a new version coming out soon? Or am I thinking of some other City Buildeing game. Something with 2008 in the title. If you like Trains (like I do) maybe try Sid Meyer's RailRoads!. It is like having a Model Railroad kit on your computer. I've played it lot's and really like to build some impressive Railway layouts. Keep up the great work. Herb -

Wow ! That is incredible. Your Sim Airport rivals some that are in the real world. When I was playing SC4 I never achieved anything like what is being done now. Of course that was a while ago and the STEX was just getting started. I may just have to go back to SC4 and play some more. -
Should I continue to play Simcity 4 deluxe editon or play Simcity Socities?
htoeppner replied to Hahayoudied's topic in City-Building Games
First, there is no demo, so you can't try it before opening the package. Second, it is very different than SC4. Third, if you want something different and need a break from SC4 this may fit the bill. It is relatively easy to get a city rolling along and can be fun if you apply yourself to City Building like I have. See my City Journals for a peek at what I've done with it, links in SIg Line -
Excellent Thanks for the help everyone. Sorry I didn't mean to post this in the CJ Forum. Herb

Quick question. What is the preferred method for editing CJ's? Do I keep editing the main post or do I do updates after the initial post? I have seen some Journals that are very impressive. I can only hope to progress to that level. How do you make a Table of Contents that links to a post further down in the thread? Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere and a link to any info is appeciated. Thanks, Herb

Very nice. Despite all the negative reactions to SCS, I like it and you can get some pretty good results if you apply yourself.
