  1. Make SimCity(5) 3D

The idea would definitely be insync with Maxis' graphical approach, that is: "a world you could reach into, and touch". So as long as it's financially reasonable, and added as an optional feature, then why not?
  2. A glimpse inside the GlassBox engine

@WildMan04 Yeah, I find that stupid too. Though we do know that sometimes people do that in real life. I hope Maxis adds that idea as an actual part of the simulation. That simulations should not always be perfect, there will always be these people who won't abide to traffic regulations. Deviant drivers may represent a certain factor, such as low education or high crime rate. Those subtle imperfections would make the simulator more realistic in my opinion. I don't want my city to look like too much of a clockwork. Police car chases anyone?
  3. Maxis AMAA Transcript

As long as they make online play very rich, lots of fun options to choose from, intensive cooperative and competitive play, and a lively economy, then I think they could pull this one off.
  4. Maxis AMAA Transcript

Thanks Firebird! simcity.com should link to here instead of cluttered Reddit.
  5. What does the future hold for CXL?

I really wish FHI can dish out some good stuff. Healthy competition is always good. Though I'm very skeptical if they can put up with EA's marketing strategies. And as EA claims, SimCity is a triple A game with high funding.
  6. That quote is still open to many interpretations. And I'm still quite confused about it. What about the mods? cheats? It simply doesn't fit right..
  7. It's cool how they are using SC4 models. It kind of reminds me of the first "SimCity 3.5" screens.
  8. What does the future hold for CXL?

Just to clarify the name "SimCity 2013": EA and Maxis is calling this new game simply "SimCity". The 2013 part was merely conceived by some of the people here at ST, to easily differentiate the new game from the old ones. Cities XL: I think, CXL will still have a small share of the market, that is people who prefer photorealism over realistic simulation. I remember when Cities XL began its development, I was quite hopeful that we will be finally having a true SC4 successor, but I was also very cautious. By the release of the game's second video though, much of my hopes faded away. The development of the game was sluggish, and the content they were presenting didn't live up to my expectations. Before I gave up on the CXL community though, I remember specifically telling Philippe Da Silva to make the game feel more "alive". They were able to do it by the release of the game, but only to a limited extent (such as actual traffic, people going to shops, and a few others). Everything else felt bland. There were very few pedestrians in areas where there should be tons of people, no disasters, late public transport. Basically the game wasn't as dynamic as I expected a city simulator to be.
  9. You do realize that this is VERY early in development, right? Exactly. The point of the Glassbox presentation was to detail the 'under the hood' simulation engine... not show off fancy finished game graphics of a game that is still a year from release. I've had to say this countless times in chat to people. Thank you for being very tolerant. One sad part is that somebody uploaded the vids to youtube, without categorically stating that those were engine exhibitions. And worse, calling it Simcity 5 "EXCLUSIVE GAMEPLAY".
  10. Assuming Maxis' promises are all true, that this is a true SimCity game and not just some SCS spinoff, then I'm very much willing to ditch SC4. I'm going to stop listening to pessimistic perfectionists' opinions and buy this game when it gets released. SC on consoles, SCS, CL, CXL, CC... I'm not going to wait another 9 years for a city sim game that possibly still won't live up to what the die-hard fans exactly want. I'm not saying that we should totally abandon our SC4 creations, we can always come back to them again anytime we want. But if we wish to keep moving forward, then I think it's high time that we let go of our usual mentality, and start a new.
  11. Maxis doing an AMA (as me anything) on Reddit

I love how Maxis is basing the entire game on how players actually think! The unconscious cravings of the human psyche! And not just from direct public demands.. This is the single most important thing that I've been waiting for! And in my opinion, the "secret" ingredient to the game's future success.
  12. A glimpse inside the GlassBox engine

Maxis has definitely raised the notch on simulation mechanics, the detail is mind blowing! Maxis never fails to surpass my SC expectations... Graphics. GFX is obviously in it's prototype. But by the looks of it, it seems that they are taking the look that will appeal to a wider range of people, that is to be slightly cartoony (let's face it, CXL realism looked bland to the eyes of the usual consumer). I know most of you feel off for this, but let's not forget that Maxis is going to give the fan base some modding tools, as some had already mentioned. Being long time SC fans, we should know better how this community can deliver when given the right equipment. ST has been there, and we know that almost nothing is impossible when it comes to modding. And as Maxis (the guys that gave us the ability to mod since SC2K, mind you) had told us, they know how important modding is to us.
  13. Arcology Refrence

^ Yes, there is still that possibility. Though to think that Maxis is taking the game back to its "roots", and that they are making it to be more "fun". Adding true arcologies just make more sense. Given that.. Arcologies + Modular Parts + Modding = !!
  14. REJOICE! Maxis knows us, they know how complex and detailed we want our mods to be! I have full faith on them! Now, knowing that Maxis will be giving us modding tools. What more on single player offline sandbox mode?! It's a damn giveaway. But still, we need official confirmation on this one. Modular Buildings + Modding = WIN!
  15. SimCity(2013) will be moddable

I kind of new this was coming, though not this early on. Thanks for the news! Everyone rejoice! "We know modding is hugely important to our community," Quigley noted. "We know the reason why people are still playing SimCity 4 ten years later is because the modding community has kept it alive. GlassBox is built to be moddable, but beyond that we haven't announced anything" - Ocean Quigley Thank you Maxis for hearing us out on this one! /weep
  16. I miss the days when ST used to be more "fun", when people actually went with the flow willingly. Unlike now, the atmosphere seems so critical and stringent. It's almost like I entered the twilight zone..
  17. SimCity 5 trailer, in full HD.

derwilly is nothing but an obsessed pessimist. Continue sulking kid, we will be playing the new SimCity while you'll be stuck with the old SC4 for years to come.
  18. I'm not mad GrimJr987, you can say whatever you want really, we all have the freedom to do so. Maxis' recent ideas kind of made me numb from all my previous notions of what SimCity micromanaging should be. And like Larks2242 said, we all have differing opinions. So I made sure that I'm for ready anything before making this topic. I simply feel for all the hobbyists here that have been waiting, almost desperately, for a true SC successor.
  19. SimCity 5 Features and System Requirements

And watch the Insider's Look video, the bald Asian guy there was working on what I believe is an actual underdeveloped gameplay footage. Which looked similar to the trailer imo.
  20. SimCity 5 Features and System Requirements

@derwilly: easily moddable. What's important is the core mechanics, and the overall graphical feel of the game.
  21. SimCity: Gameplay

We need Maxis to clear that one for us.. Anyway, SimCity is trending worldwide on twitter!
  22. SimCity: Gameplay

That message at the bottom of the Origin page is a default message that you see with every game on Origin. That statement is not meant to be about Sim City's features, but just a default message to state that an internet connection is required for Origin. On the official Sim City site FAQ and even on that same Sim City Origin page it states that it's online only (go to the Origin page and look under Game Features). It also indicated Multiplayer as 1-16, so much contradictions...
  23. SimCity: Gameplay

@Asheroo: It's not online only bro, so far atleast.. read this https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/topic/48235-simcity-5-facts/
