  1. Monte Cristo closing

There is one VERY positive thing. CXL was not pirated and MC closed it's doors. Very good for the future of political pirates as an example what happens if you are not popular enough.
  2. MC:

"Yes, but modding improves the game... for free... So why fight the modders? EA took the right approach and embraced modders and custom content and work WITH the community, not against it." The major business idea was to sell content in small packages. Why anyone would by some house models and textures if people could create an endless amount of those for free? It was smart move to block modding BUT of course now the situation is quite different. Modding would actually help the game selling when they are not able to do anything themselves. Oh, the irony
  3. MC:

    The investment was 9M
  4. Is the game dead or what?

"Good luck to MC's staff, I personally don't like to see anybody lose their jobs, that's one of the harshest things that can happen to a person in life, it destroys a person self confidence while they are actively looking for a new job and not getting one, it disrupts and can ruin peoples lives so I won't wish any of them to lose their jobs, however it seems to me the writing is already on the wall and the employees should probably back themselves up by at least keeping their ears open for a position with a company that is doing financially better than MC is reportedly doing." If they really used 9 million euros for creating CXL they really should get fired. Someone else really can do better than that. I admit that my calculations are a bit underestimated because of the MP part of the game (and I found out that they have 55!!! enmployees) but that was a clear mistake at the first place so it's just right that it generates loss. Without the MP at the first place CXL would clearly have been successfull. "Is the game dead? It was never alive to begin with." Well yeah, they released an unfinished product and got much negative reviews that cannot be undone even with updates (that never came...). It's a pity because this game really had the potential to be a great success . I'm just wondering why they are not using all the business models they have to make money? I mean GEM's, content packs, PO and so on... They still have 100k customers that is not a small number. Just 5e per customer would make 5Me money...
  5. Is the game dead or what?

"A quick calculation says that the game cost a minimum of $30 million dollars." LOL. Anti-piracy corporate propaganda seems to be working. First of all CXL is not "a modern super high quality game". It takes 400k to create a modern high quality engine so it does not take even 100 000 to create CXL engine. Then there is the extra money for content. One experienced guy can certainly create two models per day and one guy texture those models. That makes 700 models per year. How many models are in CXL? Not more than 500. So they don't have 50 people making the game. My quess is 10. So with over 3000e/month salaries it would cost 400k to create CXL. Then there are rents + computers + software + etc. So 500k is a good quess per year.
  6. Is the game dead or what?

"Listen to me, the game has its potential and it will be very sad if the things ends up like this." I agree, the game has HUGE potential. There base for the game is good. The engine can do good graphics (even if the textures are crappy right now - except trees), the simulation is quite complex, it can handle animations, road tools and so on are great and the whole package runs quite smoothly. It's just lack of content and some major features like public transport and some quality problems (textures, animations). Half a year more work and the game would be very good already. And other thing. Why the money is a problem in the first place? Where the hell are the GEMS? Even 2e/GEM*10k purchases would make serious money and how much time it makes to create GEM? 1 week with 2 workers? And, 100k sold units makes what? 1-2 million euros? Where they put the money? And, even 1000 PO subscribers would make serious income (60k/year). And then there are all those in-game advertisements...
  7. Is the game dead or what?

Well the biggest problem here is that even if there is a new version coming failing the last one completely is bad. There was quite much hype about "continuously evolving game experience" and gems and content updates and new features... Who is going to believe it next time? Not me...
  8. Is the game dead or what?

Is the game dead of what the hell is happening? No sign of anything after the P.O. went off? And where are the P.O content fom SP? Making that change should not take months - even buses are already in SP. I can't believe how they even managed to fail that (PO). Maybe it was just that they released the game uncompleted and did not even managed to update the game during the months. Is it really too hard to create a couple of models in a month? Lol. A good modeler can create many models per day. Even I can and I'm not a pro.
