Some palaces Name: Mafra National Palace Location: Mafra, Portugal Constructed: 1740 Details: This palace was originally intended to be a small monastery, but with the enormous amount of gold the Portugese robbed from Latin America, the Portugese king Johan V decided to turn it into a huge palace instead due to jealousy over the huge palaces of the Vatican and the Spanish Escorial Palace. With its 220 meter long facade, 1200 rooms and 156 stairways, it is one of the largest palaces in the world. Name: Museo de la Revolucion Location: Havana, Cuba Constructed: 1920 Details: The former presidential palace of Cuba, every revolutionist or crackpot dictator would want one! It is filled to the brim with all kinds of revolutionary relics and has a room dedicated to Che Guevara. The tank in front of it is the one in which Fidel Casto participated in the battle over the Pigs Bay. Viva la Revolucion!

iCastles would be nice too, to mix with the Old England buildings. Name: Muiderslot Location: Muiden, Netherlands Constructed: ~1280 Details: Constructed by Earl Floris V, one of the more famous Dutch historical figures. The castle currently acts as a museum. Name: De Haar Location: Haarzuilens, Netherlands Constructed: 1892 on top of ancient castle ruins Details: The largest castle of the Netherlands, with extensive gardens on the surrounding lands. On this site there used to be a castle dating from 1391, but this castle was destroyed by a tornado in 1674 (The same one which also destroyed the church of Utrecht). in 1892, Etienne, baron van Zuylen van Nyevelt van de Haar, started the construction of a new castle from money which he acquired by marrying the French baroness Helene de Rothschild. They resided in this castle for one month every year, a tradition which is continued to this day by their children. Note: Please add castle gardens as beautification terrain! Name: Gravensteen Location: Gent, Belgium Constructed: 9th century and onwards Details: One of the oldest castles in Europe, this site was fortified in the 9th century to withstand Viking raids. In 11th century the reigning Earl ordered the construction of the central stone keep which was initially surrounded by a wooden pallisade with stone gate building, but later during this period the castle was expanded by a moat and surrounded by a stone wall. The earth from the moat was used to build a small hill, which turned the ground floor of the keep into a cellar. Earl Philippe d'Alsace erected an even larger keep and had the towers added to the walls in the 12th century. The most recent 'battle' at the castle took place in 1949, when a mob of students stormed and occupied the castle out of anger of increased beer prices. Name: Burg Hohenzollern Location: near Hechingen, Germany Constructed: 11th century, destroyed in 1423, rebuilt after that but reduced to ruins, new castle erected in 1867 by King Wilhelm IV Details: Construted on a 855 meters high mountain, and used as a refuge by the noble Hohenzollern family during the wars in Europe. While the castle fell into disuse and became ruined, King Wilhelm IV ordered its restoration in the 19th century. Name: Castle Neuschwanstein Location: Hohenschwangau, Germany Constructed: 1869 Special: Not an original castle, Neuschwanstein was built by the excentric king Ludwig II who wanted to relive the ancient history of Germany with its knights and castles. The king was declared insane in 1886 and dethroned, and murdered shortly thereafter. The castle is the most popular tourist attraction in Germany. Name: Chateau du Haut-Koenigsbourg Location: Orschwiller, France Constructed: 1147, restored in 1899 by Emperor Wilhelm II Special: One of the best preserved castles of Europe, this castle has seen a lot of conflict in its long history, and due to the surrounding Alsace lands being conquered a lot during the years, the castle has been in French, German, Swiss and even Swedish hands. When Germany conquered this part of France in the 19th century, Emperor Wilhelm II ordered the castle rebuilt as symbol of the strength and history of the great German nation. After the second world war, the Alsace was returned to France. Name: Chateau de Chambord Location: Chambord, France Constructed: 1547 Special: This castle is one of the most famous Chateaux of France, due to its typical renaissance architecture. It is not made for any kind of defense, but rather as a luxurious hunting lodge. The castle has stables for 1200 horses for hunting parties. During world war 2, a large part of the French art collections was brought to Chambord as it was thought to be a safe location, however an American B 24 managed to crash on the castle lawn in 1944. Name: Eilean Donan Location: Loch Duich near Dornie, Scotland Constructed: 13th century Details: Originally constructed as stronghold against Viking raids, owned by Clan Mackenzie and later passed to Clan Macrae. It has been the theater of several sieges including the siege by Clan MacDonald in 1539. It is one of the most famous castles of Scotland and featured in many movies, including Highlander.

To keep the thread clean and readable please observe the following guidelines: * No discussion, I'd like to keep the thread as clean as possible with lists of buildings, not endless pages of rants and discussions about other people's preferences. I think that in this way, we can be the most helpful to the Monte Cristo developers. * Please include the following information about the buildings whenever possible: - Building name and location - Picture, either small size or link to image to avoid heavy page loads - Construction year - Current and/or historical use of the building and factlist about the building, what is special about this building? - Suggestions on buildings class and stats in game Let's get started with some of my favorite choices from the Netherlands! Name: "De Inktpot" / Hoofdadministratiegebouw III Location: Utrecht, Netherlands Constructed: 1922, architect G.W. van Heulekom Purpose: One of the headquarters of the Dutch Railways Special features: This is the largest brick building in the Netherlands, with over 22 million bricks used. It was constructed by the Dutch Railways after their first two offices (located next to this building) became too small. Due to the post WW1 scarecity, the foundation was made from 21km of railway tracks. In the top of the building is a waterreservoir, this gives the building the additional function to act as a watertower for the city of Utrecht. Suggested Ingame stats: Bonus to railway efficiency whenever it is introduced to the game, +1 water token Name: De Efteling Location: Loon op Zand, Netherlands Constructed: 1952 Size: 72 hectare / 177 acres Purpose: The largest theme park in the Netherlands, and winner of the "Pomme d'Or" award in 1972 as best theme park of Europe and "Best Theme Park of the World" award in 1992 (to the great annoyance of the recently opened Euro Disney, sorry France). The park has a fantasy theme and its attractions often depict old Dutch folklore tales and legends. Proposed Stats: Leisure satisfaction, +2 holiday tokens, and should generate nice revenue too, but the downsize should be the large size making placement difficult (or requiring it being placed in a forest or something) Name: "Grachtenpanden", the typical Dutch aristocracy houses that were built alongside the Dutch canals and harbors Location: Varies, but Amsterdam is famous for these buildings Constructed: ~17th century Purpose: The wealthy traders used to live here during the golden age. They were built alongside canals and harbors to make it possible to unload cargo from boats and move it directly into the house, although the architecture is similar to other Dutch houses constructed around this time which did not have access to water. Proposed ingame stats: Themed content pack buildings for medium Elite and Executive residential areas. Name: Omniversum Location: The Hague, Netherlands Constructed: 1984 Purpose: Cinema for displaying Omnimax movies, the first of its kind in Europe. These movies are projected on a huge dome which covers the audience's entire field of vision. It offers seats for 300 people. The stated purpose of the Omniversum is the following "Omniversum strives to deliver knowledge about human life, nature and our planet to the audience in the most special and impressive way possible. In particular knowledge which is essential for a sustainable society." Proposed ingame stats: Leisure satisfaction, Education bonus or pollution reduction. Name: Schokland Location: Schokland, Netherlands Constructed: Late medieval buildings restored in recent times Purpose: Schokland was originally an island in the Zuiderzee, but in 1942 the sea was dammed off and drained and Schokland became part of the dry land that was won. In medieval times, the island was rather large, but due to storms a lot of the land was lost and the island threatened to disappear beneath the waves and was flooded numerous times. In 1859 the island was evacuated and abandoned by royal decree. Only one of the three villages on the island remained intact and this village has recently been restored. In 2007 the Schokland Accords were formulated, and people and organizations that sign this treaty commit themselves to the United Nations Millenium Goals which strive to eliminate pollution and poverty. Suggested ingame stats: Capable of being built on land and water, small city-wide bonus to environment satisfaction, pollution reduction

I already repeated it a lot over the past days and they sure are gone, also waited for 10 minutes at the planet screen but the cities dont show. And I cant find them in the search either, and the spots they used to be in are empty. They are still in my profile though.
-
Two days ago, I was happily playing my cities, I assigned a blueprint to one of the cities and so on. Before I went to dinner I saved, and it all went properly. Then when I got back, all my cities were just gone! As in 0 cities on my planet, and the search not bringing anything up. I logged out and back in, installed the game on another computer and tried from there, nothing. They've just all disappeared, and so has countless hours of hard work! Now I understand that a lot of unused cities were deleted as it occurred at exactly the same time as the city total dropped significantly, but I was an active subscriber and all my stuff is now gone too! I filed a support ticket but MC isn't answering! Help!

I believe it should be free, as it is nothing special and there is no meaningful interaction between players. Guild Wars has no monthly fee either, and offers much more gameplay and interaction.

The whole point was to show that CitiesXL is NOT an MMO.
-
CitiesXL is no more an MMO than Diablo II on battle.net is. CitiesXL stores your city on a central server Diablo II stores your character on a central server CitiesXL allows you to chat with other players Diablo II allows you to chat with other players CitiesXL lets you trade resources with other players Diablo II lets you trade items with other players In CitiesXL, your city does not progress when not logged in In Diablo II, your character does not progress when nog logged in Diablo II lets you play cooperatively or competetively with other players Diablo II published many free updates during its lifetime including new items, monsters, and game mechanics Diablo II does not charge a monthly fee Cities XL uhhhhhh.... You know, there is one game that did everything Cities XL does here and more! Comparison 2: Cities XL vs Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom CitiesXL stores your city on a central server E:RMK stores your online multiplayer city on a central server CitiesXL allows players to build and manage a city E:RMK allows players to build and manage a city CitiesXL allows players to trade resources with other players E:RMK allows players to trade resources with other players CitiesXL will hopefully allow players to build megastructures at some point in the future E:RMK allows players to build megastructures, this often requires them to collaborate with others to obtain all the resources In CitiesXL, your city does not progress when not logged in In E:RMK, your city does not progress when nog logged in CitiesXL has a broken excuse for solo play in addition to multiplayer features E:RMK has several full solo campaigns, solo sandbox play, and several multiplayer options including online play CitiesXL does not have a map editor E:RMK has a map and scenario editor CitiesXL requires you to pay for extra content and has a monthly fee E:RMK released several full content packs for free, and requires no monthly fee CitiesXL allows players to pay a visit to other players cities, but not to interact with it in any meaningful way E:RMK allows players to send armies to another player's city and burn it to the ground CitiesXL was released in 2009 E:RMK was released in 2003

Shops has everything green so all demands are met, except for profit. even with only one shop in town, the profit is still orange, saying there is an overproduction of retail goods. All the while the citizens are whining about more shops. Building more shops turns their profit red and makes them go bankrupt. Tokens have nothing to do with it.
-
This is a really urgent question and I've been looking for an answer for two days now. I have over 500k people, and they all say that there aren't enough "shops" and have a red notification whining about it. However every time I build commercial zones, doesn't matter where and how far they are spread, they go bankrupt because "Retail goods are hard to sell" Right now I can only build 4 commercial lots (not zones, lots) before they go bankrupt. Even the houses next to them are still whining they need shops. Are they bugged?!

If you have 5 cities on one planet can you trade between them?
Shakkara replied to Greybeard's topic in Cities XXL
What I did was post a buy offer of 5 oil for 1 cash, and then accept that specific offer with the other city. You can see the name of the mayor in the list so... -
1) Who consumes retail, I got a city with over 250k people and people are unhappy that they do not have 'shopping', but commercial zones go bankrupt because retail is red and they don't make a profit (everything else is green). Commercial zones are in the middle of residential zones. 2) Entertainment and education. There is whining that the city is boring and people are retarded, but even though I spend a lot of my budget on various entertainment and schooling structures, the situation doesn't improve. What's the problem here? Does it matter how close these building are and what the types are? What is the most effective way of building them? 3) Any way of making a sustainable society that doesn't depend on having loads of heavy industry in the town? Can be partially circumvented by farming I guess but that locks out manufacturing and hi-tech. And offices seem to love hi-tech.
