  1. CitiesXL on STEAM for $20

Most definitely get it for that price. The game is great if your looking for some chilled out city building, theres not many other options other than obviously SC4. There are alot of negative people on these forums who are hardcore city building fans and are let down by the game, probably understandable if your super super into the genre. But if your like me and enjoy playing some SC4 here and there and want a modern City Building game then Cities XL does a fantastic job of this. Basically if your a hardcore citybuilding fan who knows the ins and outs of SC4 and has played it for hundreds of hours then Cities XL may dissapoint. If your a more casual city building fan then I couldn't recommend the game more.
  2. Planet Ranking Leaderboards - Unemployment?

Even so I dont really see the point in showing who has the largest unemployment, its not exactly a feat or anything you really care about seeing. Maybe who has the the smallest unemployment for the largest amount of time would be a better thing to show.
  3. When cruising the Planet Ranking Leaderboards on CitiesXL.com I came across the unemployment rate leaderboard. The thing I dont understand is why is the leaderboard showing those who have 100% unemployment. Surely this is a stupid leaderboard...I mean...its basically showing who has the suckiest economy, or in reality - who's only just started their city and logged off! Surely it makes more sense to show those who have 0% unemployment on a leaderboard?
  4. Cities XL is NOT an MMO

Most people seem to be enjoying the game that I've spoken too, including myself. If you dont want to pay monthly then dont, singleplayer mode is perfectly playable. Planet Mode is still extremely young, before people pull out their pitchforks they should see how it pans out in the near future.
  5. Reviews of Cities XL

Negativity of some people on these forums amazes me, especially from people who haven't played the game and seem to *want* to be down on it. Try it for yourself before making a judgment first. So far the critic review scores have been good, not amazing no, but pretty good! Comparing this to the rubbish that was SC Societies is a joke. Do we compare every single game in a genre to the top dog and hate on it because it doesn't do this or doesn't do that? Judge CitiesXL for its own merits, play the game yourself and make a judgment on it for it being a City building game rather than the constant 'is this better than SC4' ideology. CoD4 is one of the most polished feature full and complete shooter packages on the market, which since releasing many game developers have wished they could emulate the success of, yet you cant sit there for 2 years whining about how *insert shooter name here* doesn't do this or that which CoD4 has, you take it on it's own merits and enjoy it for what it brings to the table. By all means constructive criticism is great for MC hearing from us about future features, but a lack of one feature doesn't make the entire game suck. Yes CitiesXL falls into the City building genre, and therefore can be compared to SC4, however being down on the game because it doesn't have a specific feature that was in SC4 is rubbish. It's not trying to be SC5, it's a series of it's own in a specific and relatively niche genre. Hopefully some people take the time to read this and agree with what I've said. Obviously if someone doesn't enjoy the game for genuine reasons then they don't enjoy it, thats sure to happen. But I'd hate to think some of this expectation-based negativity is putting people off from possible enjoyment of the game. CitiesXL is the best 'City' game yet from MC, theres no doubt about that. It's probably the best game in the genre of the past few years.
  6. Offline mode

No thats a lie, I got the game 2 days ago had no issues registering and getting into the game straight away - no install issues, no registration issues, no server problems. But tonight the servers appear to be down, first time I've had it when wanting to play but its not a biggie, expected it. https://www.citiesxl.com/signup/index_en.php?affiliate - works fine here
  7. Exactly, from that message I gathered this was only a temporary solution until they sort out the servers and their systems etc.
  8. Reviews of Cities XL

Amazon reviews look exactly like what I stated in my post above To add to that list people pissed off that theres a pay monthly option.
  9. Hopefully this will be sorted soon considering its a paid service
  10. launching planet mode

To be expected sadly from a game like this at launch. With it having such a large online component its their first real time doing anything like this, or even anyone in a City game for that matter. Generally though online games do have unexpected downtimes at launch, aslong as it doesn't become a constant thing in the future. Guess we just have to be patient EDIT - servers appear to be back
  11. launching planet mode

I think its gone down, annoying as I was literally just setting up to play!! Myn hung on the initial loading screen, and now wont connect on the launcher - says the service is unavailable.
  12. Custom Graphics Settings?

    Anyone know anything about this?
  13. Reviews of Cities XL

Critical reviews are good so far. 5.8 on metacritic user scores is just absolutely rubbish. I bet most of those havn't even played the game, probably annoyed at the fact theres a pay monthly option to the game therefore slap a crap score on it. Also not meaning to offend anyone by this but I've seen alot of people who are completely down on the game over the littlest of things. From a guy like myself who just really enjoyed the relaxing feel to SC4 and played it here and there, CitiesXL totally has that same vibe, yet the 'hardcore' city builder fans see one missing feature and seem to be extremely negative. I bet if there was an SC5 the same kind of people would be hating on it due to whatever was missing that 'should' have been in there.
  14. Why No More Demo/Trial Option?

Theres a trial DVD to give to a friend in my LE box (not sure if thats in standard ones too), but currently Trials are closed due to a 'large influx of players' apparently. Hopefully re-open soon.
  15. Is there any way to manually configure the graphics settings? I've only seen 'low, medium, high' etc at the moment. For someone like myself on a relatively old yet still chugging along rig this makes it pretty tough to get the best out of the games visuals. For example I always disable Shadows on games, as I'd rather have the extra FPS, or in-place for a bump in another area. I can play smoothly on Medium until the cities start to get really large. I would like to fine tune my graphics settings. If anyone knows how, be it via a config file or ingame, I would greatly appreciate it!
