Everything was fine, and has been fine until I installed that patch, and then started the game. The patch is what did it. Other than that, your suggestion for a restore back to the last day it was working, is a sound one.

I'm using Vista 64 bit. It doesn't name the actual driver (I wish it did). Due to Christmas and family, I haven't had time to mess with it in depth yet. I'm thinking about uninstalling CXL in Safe Mode. But I would like to back my cities up first. Anyone here know what files those are? Of course, since Windows won't even start now, I don't have much faith that uninstalling the game will fix things. I may just have to do a clean install.

The day before Christmas, I installed the Christmas patch. Then started the game (single player). The game started up, and ran for about 10 seconds, and then crashed. Since then, my computer will only start in Windows Safe mode. When trying to start in regular mode, it fails and spits out a bunch of code saying something to the effect of catastrphic device failure, and then freezes. Needless to say, I'm not very happy with this game or company right now.

The lack of Pollution Controls is one of my biggest nits of this game. Industry and manufacturing are necessary evils, and in the real world there lots of industry and manufacuring that doesn't pollute. Especially to the degree it does in CXL. My next biggest gripe is the unfair trade system. Finally, I agree that CXL is a socialist based game. And for a capatilist pig such as myself, that is also taking a little of getting over.

As a city progresses, more expensive services become available (police, fire, medical care, etc.). Should the lower costs facilites be deleted in favor of the more expensive ones (so as to be able to afford the more expensive one)? In other words, when the large police station becomes available, does it do the job of several of the smaller ones, in that I can place the large one and delete the smallers ones?

Having such unbalanced trading in the game really distracts from what I think the main focus of this type of game should be... BUILDING A CITIE! Interaction and trading between different cities in SP mode should be part of SP. And the way the trading currently stands, it just gimps the game up unfairly and unnecessarily.

Well, that in itself wouldn't be so bad if the Omnicorp wasn't an set up on a total ripoff 4 to1 misbalance between selling and buying.

How? Omnicorp BITES!

Okay, no matter what I've tried, as the title of the thread states, Bridges are Impossible!!! They're either too tall, too large, won't adjust to the proper size, and most of the time simply won't allow to be placed! The very times I have had success placing a bridge, it looks like it belongs in 'Giant Land', because it is proportionally way too large compared to all of the other structures in the city. To me, this is a MAJOR BUG, and needs to be fixed. If nothing else, there ought to be a 'bridge edit' mode, so once the thing is in place, you can select it, and then readjust the height without accidently deleting it!

The Oil Pollution is BS in this game (just like the ship dock). These days, oil extraction is very clean, environmentally safe, and highly regulated.
-
Another gripe about Air Pollution; Why does the Ship Dock produce Air Pollution? They just move cargo. The don't 'produce' anything. And yes, there doesn't seem to be any 'anti-pollution' controls in the game, other than not building stuff that pollutes. Which is not an option due to the way the economy in the game works.
-
Another issue I've found with pollution that seems to be glitch, is that I had some manufacturing close to my Exec Houses, so I deleted all of the these manufactuers, and re-built them far away. The Air Pollution map still shows massive amounts where the manufacturing used to be. And this is after 10 to 15 cycles.

Originally posted by: lots I do have some complaints about the expressway. It should be like a real interstate or whatever, in that I can say "be this many lanes wide." I say this, because I just got used to the smaller roads having all kinds of 1 way traffic, 2x3 lane traffic, and more configurations. Clicking on an express way reveals no alternate configurations. It would be nice to add a few more lanes, or configure their directions, carpool lanes, etc. to the larger roads.... quote> Carpool lanes don't work in real life. So why would want the simulate that failure in the game?
-
Originally posted by: Kredit I agree the options for placing roads are limited. It would be great to have more control over the traffic flow. I would also really like to be able to upgrade roads, instead of having to replace them, since a bigger road will be, well, bigger, you often can't put it where the old road was. quote> I really wish they would follow SC on this one, and allow a larger road to replace the smaller road, and simply 'auto-buloldoze' any surrounding properties which would encroach on the new road. It would also be nice for the building areas to be scalable.

Also, why did they make the Ferris Wheel so ugly? Shouldn't it have been painted bright colors and have lights? The one in the game looks extremely distressed. I mean, afterall, half the fun of a game like this is the visuals of the buildings and other stuff that go in the city, right?
