  1. First of all, Global warming doesn't mean necessarily warmer winters, less snow and scorching summers. If it were only that, it would be fairly easy to cope with it. 1. Global Warming can change wind patterns, water current patterns, which in turn might lead to changes in local climates all over the world. Do you know how much the Gulfstream contributes for mild weather in Europe? Do you know what's gonna happen if it dissapeares all of a sudden? Besides, the problem is in the major unpredictability of what exactly is gonna happen where. If it were just 'rain in the desert, heat in Philadelphia', it would be OK. But it's impossible to predict if it's gonna be so. 2. Have you watched the news lately? As in, last couple of years? How big of a part have natural disasters taken? Floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tzunamis..... the list goes on. Well, you can pretend this is all natural, but all of those happening in the same time? 3. Climate change won't affect only humans and our cities. It will affect wild life as well. How much of it will turn up to be unprepared to adapt to changes? As in entire fish colonies dying, entire herds of animals, birds falling from the sky.... Now, how much will this affect total natural balance? Of course, you can pretend that all this doesn't concern us - we don't eat wild animals after all. The problem is, however, that the whole biosphere is interconnected (you learn this in elementary school), and this means if a large part of it is affected by a sudden change, the rest of it will be affected as well. So, our crops might start dying all of a sudden because of some obscure microbe, or our lifestock might sicken because of something else. 4. The total amount of water on Earth is constant, more or less, granted. However, a large part of it is in the form of ice on the two poles, and the ice on the South pole is all on land (or mostly). Which means that its mass doesn't contribute to the world oceanic level. YET. Now, what happens when all this mass turns liquid and goes into the ocean? Can you guess? What happens when you drop ice in a glass of water? If the glass is already full? New York, Rio de Janeiro, Marseilles, Brisbane, San Francisko, New Orleans, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. How many of these disasters our society will stand before falling apart? Oh yeah, we could disregard this 'world climate change' conspiracy, and continue working on new TV technology, and more cellphone designs. And more comsetics. Or we can pull our heads from the friggin sand and do something.
  2. Saves location?

Did you check My documents? Some games create a folder there.....
  3. City Has Vanished

Slagonia, you're talking about regions..... are talking about CXL or Sim City 4?
  4. How do you build a Mega Structure?

  5. Technical Issues FAQ

Regarding a future patch for Cities XL 2011: Focus Home Interactive are currently working on a patch to adress the issues we all know about. We still don't know what exactly the patch will adress, and when exactly it will come out, but we know that they are working on it. So: Focus hasn't abandoned the game and a patch is comming! For all of you too impatient to wait, be aware that there have been hundreds of similar posts ("Where is the friggin' patch? You Focus are worse than MC... "etc.), and that there is NO POINT in creating more. So, we will deal with any such posts as we deal with all repetitive and pointless content on the site. The patch will come when it comes. Here's the link to an official statement by Focus Home regarding the patch and future developments of the game: http://forum.citiesxl.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2092 And the statement itself: Hello everybody, First of all, thanks a lot to the moderators for passing the questions you were wondering on to us. We received your concerns and wanted to take some time to give you the clearest and most complete answers possible. We understand your questions on the game, principally about a patch for Cities XL 2011, the modding and the future of Cities XL. We did not let aside the other questions, but it seemed preferable for us to begin by talking about those important subjects. A patch for Cities XL 2011 We are working on a patch for cities XL 2011. It will bring some fixes to the game, we can’t give you the exact list of fixes for the moment. It hasn’t been finalized yet. This patch will be available on the official website and automatically downloaded and installed for steam users. We will certainly need to test the patch before its release, so be sure we will keep you informed about the content of the patch or any info about it as soon as we know it. This patch won’t contain any adding content. We can’t officially announce anything about additionnal content for the moment but we plan to do it in the coming months. Modding in Cities XL 2011 We want to support modding, by giving you as much information as possible and the best tools we can. By nature, modding is a community-based activity. We hope that the thousands players of Cities XL 2011 will build on the existing modding communities and the motivated newcomers to create all the mods you would wish to have. Our goal, in order to support you, is to allow you to organize yourself and try to answer to your specific needs, within the limits of our possibilities of course. Above all we do not want to hold you back in your creations. However it is difficult for us to share your creations on the official website, it would be too difficult for us to control the contents of all of them. But you can count on us to point up original creations and to ease your work on certain points if we can. The future of the Cities XL series City series by Monte Cristo is a series we have been involved in for many years. They are games we believe in and want to bring to the greater number. The sales of Cities XL 2011 in store and its success on the internet allow us to think with equanimity of future developments for Cities XL and of additional content. We will surely make announcements in the coming months. We hope this answers to your principle questions. Cities XL is a very important series for us, and we will always do the most we can to make it live the best possible. We can only invite you to stay tuned on the official websites and forums, chasing the future announces. Best, The Focus Team
  6. I thought I might copy this: an oficial answer to a similar question from the oficial CXL forums, given by the oficial Focus Home Administrator Vince: Hello to everyone, As you certainly know the moderators have gathered the questions you asked and they gave it to us. Most of the questions concerned the future of Cities XL, a patch and modding. We are working on those subjects and we want to continue working on Cities XL, please be sure of that. Believe us, guys from marketing, producers, developpers we are still working on the game to improve it the best we can. Either to fix some problems or to optimize gameplay conditions. For example, We have been working with some modders from the community. To gather information about how they mod and what they would need to feel more comfortable with that on Cities XL 2011. I know this does not answer your concerns for the moment, and we will answer your question as soon as possible. We just want to give you the best and most accurate info. So be sure that we don't give up Cities XL. We will give you official answers as soon as possible. Best, Vincent I hope this satisfies to a degree your need for contact with the game developers. I also hope that it will help you quench the fire that makes you write somewhat unbalanced statements....?
  7. Infuriating game!

Sigh. The key to making money is not in selling utilities, guys. Learn this once and for all! Even with the bonus buildings, it's still too expensive trying to specialize in utilities only. So, the answer lies in industry. Which not only could produce excesses to sell to Omni, but also pays your city taxes. And also has production boosters, (it actually has one additional booster, compared to Utilities). Do you need Utility-specialized cities? Of course! But, in every such city, specialize also in one or more type of industries and offices (depending on wether it's a dirty or a clean city). This way you get the necessary excess cash to support all your city network.
  8. Developing of buildings in Cities XL 2011?

This is not Sim City, Zeewolf. Buildings don't develop visually here. They develop functionally, though - all businesses and industry have profits that could improve or worsen depending on conditions, and the taxes the city gets depend on profits. And if you think it's 'strange' and 'unrealistic', I urge you to think of how much processing power will require a fully 3d city of 5 milion with cranes building everywhere all the time. Some thinks are simply not realistic, even as it is the game is a resource monster.
  9. Traffic Bugs

Originally posted by: arrellb Well, who can we be directed to so this bug can be fixed?quote> No offence, dude, but the answer is obvious, isn't it? Whoever made the game should fix it. And don't think that others before you haven't noticed the bugs and communicated them to the developers. We've barked up that tree since the release of CXL 2009, without results as of yet. This might mean that: - The problem is not so easy to fix - They think there are other, more important things to fix first, or - They don't care. At any rate, the current developer Focus Home knows about the graphic bugs related to traffic. And until they decide to take action, there's nothing to do but ignore the bugs. After all, they don't affect the actual traffic simulation.
  10. Few quick questions..

Originally posted by: Ilikeseattle With bus terminals, place a terminal on top of the original and you start a new line that way.quote> Yep, that's it. Select the same type of bus terminal from the menu, and simply drop it on top of the existing terminal - a new line will start automathically. By the way, have you guys thought of how ridiculous this is? I mean, come on - can you think of a rational explanation why you should drop another terminal on top of the first one to start a new line???? Instead of, say, adding a small button 'Add a line', or something, in the terminal's panelI... I guess somebody at MC simply got lazy, or, as usual, they didn't have enough time.
  11. Few quick questions..

Another buldozing hint involving metro: - When you use the area buldoze tool, you demolish anything in the area, including the metro line that happens to be passing underneath. I myself have done it countless times. So, when you have a metro network in your city, be extremely carefull when using area buldoze!!!!! You can still use freely the point buldoze tool, though. This is also the only safe option when you're trying to buldoze something directly above the metro line.
  12. CitiesXL will never function properly!

Have you tried the Video options? There should be at least 1024X768, I think. Also, turn off 'Atmospheric display' - this helps a lot without inhibiting visual quality.
  13. Is the region system the same as SC4?

Hybrid, why don't you read the presentation of the game in the Omnibus? It should answer all your questions immediately, before you know to ask them here one by one.
  14. problem with Leisure and Token

Originally posted by: bleaf ok will try that. I have a city of over 1.5 million. If you want to increase population, create more jobs, by building industry, commerce.....
  15. I can't help you, sorry. Maybe, uninstall the game?
  16. Cities XL 2011 unlock buildings!

I assume you guys are talking about Landmark buildings like the Brandenburg Gate and the specialization buildings like the special offices, institutes, etc. Those buildings are not unlockable via Expert mode or cheat in the normal game. You have to reach specific requirements to unlock them (either population or specific token production). And no, this doesn't seem to be a bug, but rather a designer's decision to make the game more challenging. There are a number of unlockable buildings in the Landmarks menu, the Packs (Social buildings), and also in Leisure menus. I guess that the only way to unlock them all from start is Globex' mod.
  17. Citizens Question in 2011

Yeah, thinking about it now....... - If the traded workers were really working in the other city, they would have to fully participate not only in the general workforce pool, but also in the traffic simulation. This means, they're supposed to come from somewhere and go to their workplaces. Now, how does the engine decide from which entry point exactly the several citizen tokens entered the city? One of the Road city links? Highway? Airport? Also, every time the business they work for goes bankrupt, they'll need a recalculation in BOTH cities (since for some time they won't have a workplace anymore, thus they'll be unemployed again in the original city). That's only for starters....... I guess it's doable, but it added unnecessary problems that MC decided are not absolutely vital to solve at that time.
  18. Cities XL Manual

I'm starting this thread hoping to create an alternative and more detailed manual than the one available online. I plan to adress basic game mechanics in a consise and clear way, together with tips for some advanced gameplay. Please feel free to post additions! And moderators, If you feel like you could sticky this thread. As a start, I'm gonna copy my post about busses from 'the Mass transit discussion thread'.
  19. scenario in XL2011

Sorry, no Sim CIty 5 in sight. Sim City Societies was to be SC5, and it was a terrible failure. IMO, Maxis got swallowed by EA even during the SC 4 era, and they don't have a say in the future of the franchise anymore. You could try to stick to Cities XL and try to like it, since there 's much more hope for development here than in the SC universe.
  20. scenario in XL2011

What you're talking about sounds more like The Sims, or Societies, or a mixture of those..... I think you can be pretty sure that the game won't develop in such direction. However, there are sorts of 'mini-games' that are being developed for CXL - the GEMs. In the first two that are almost ready, you'll be able to build and command a Ski Resort and a Beach resort. I don't know about other ideas they had, but I think there was one about an Airport GEM.... Of course, you'll have to either wait and hope that Focus Home decides to release the GEMs, or use an Unlocker mod and play with the partially completed GEMs.
  21. Mass Transit Single Player

.... but this doesn't change that they're part of the metro network, and not a train network.
  22. CitiesXL A new start

No Lancelot, no trains. Unless you install Globex' Unlocker mod - there are some trains there, but they're just an eye candy. And before you ask or start swearing, we all eagerly await the development of trains for the game. Focus Home sure knows that this is maybe the most demanded feature for the game, so if they decide to continue developing at all, they're sure to implement trains in the (near?) future.
  23. Landmarks question ... Please help!

The thing is that this is not actually a game question, it's a cheat question. He's not asking how to build Landmarks (meaning Blueprints, in fact), he's asking how to plop them without the resource allocating process. This is impossible in the normal game, unless, as I mentioned above, you reach sufficient population to unlock the Big Ben and Chichen Itza BPs, which you can plop. If I'm not mistaken, they unlock after a million. So, what waldenbg is actually asking for is a mode that allows ploping of Blueprints.
  24. Landmarks question ... Please help!

aren't you tired of asking the same question waldenbg? In the original game you can already place 2 landmarks for 'free' (no resources needed, just maintenance fee). The Big Ben and Chichen Itza. Oh yes, there's the small problem of population to unlock them If you want free Landmarks, I think you need a Sandbox mode, not an Unlocker mode.
  25. Cities XL 2011 Crashing

Yeah, they need to do something about them. Although I guess if they resolve the multiple notifications bug, it'll be OK to play. I play without problems with the occasional notification popping up, but it's 'real' - one single resource going overboard, so a single message. It's actually usefull to know when you have trading problems, as long as there aren't 50 messages to click on.....
