It gives entertainment just like playgrounds and the sports facilities (and parks?) I don't think it's function is particularly different. It's just more aesthetically correct in a forest area.

Question about Sim population age demographics.
Junuxx replied to jmusacha's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
All right.. Thanks. Is it generally good or bad to have a lot of oldies? My schools are very empty, even in dense neighboorhoods, which is cheap. But do old people work, make money in this game? Do they need more healthcare? -
Question about Sim population age demographics.

Gave it another try with a poor city, but it has just as many fiftysomethings as all my other cities -

what are the commute times like for your residential areas? I have a feeling I could solve this situation if it was my own game, but your situation is kind of hard to analyse in this way.
-
Hmm, starting to sound quite odd. What else do you have in the region/connected neighbours?
-
What's your education score? Tax level for manufacturing? I'd experiment and see what happens if you give water to some of your houses though.
-
Does your industry have water? You'll get larger buildings with more jobs, creating demand for mid-wealth residents.
-
Yeah there's a minimum population for every growable building (except stage 1). Not really sure about the thresholds, but sometimes a city just needs a small push to allow a new set of bigger buildings to appear. Try adding some trees, parks, water and cliffs to improve your environment rating. Also you might try reducing air pollution by placing cleaner energy plants.

Could be three reasons I can think of 1) Are you sure you haven't zoned low density? In that case you'll never get much larger buildings 2) They could be lacking some amenities. Do your residential neighborhoods have water, parks, schools and health care? 3) Buildings all belong to a certain city phase. You'll never see tall buildings in a very small city, for example. But 120k should be enough for some highrises.

Question about Sim population age demographics.
Junuxx replied to jmusacha's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I did a search for 'population by age' as I was having the same question, and this post showed up. My situation is slightly different though... I always get a bunch of oldies in my cities. 51-60 is by far the largest group in the graph, and I'd estimate 50-90 makes up about two thirds of total city population. This happens in poor and rich cities, with both high and low education. Can anyone elaborate? -
haarlemmergold and vanderaap have truly excellent collections of dutch houses on the STEX search for their names and you'll have a considerable list with plenty of euro residentials

And I think the devs of a future SC5 would be wise to wait and see how CXL is received, and learn from its mistakes. Which would mean they could start designing in early 2010, and I really don't see how it could hit stores in 2011 then. Of course this is all speculation Be patient though, I'm totally confident they won't let this great franchise die.
