I know of and use the Elevated Rail Face-life, but is there such a thing for the elevated highways? I have a spot in my new city which could sure use a Face-lift! The grass looks quite out of place. (I have the RHW mod, but right in that spot, it was a little too tight to use it, so i used good ol' maxis highways.) I did a little searching around, but didn't find much... The place I'm talking about is attached to the post.

Ha! I know such a turn (The super sharp one i made) is impossible in real life, and I know diagonal would be impossible. But a nice large smoother 90 Degree turn would make 6C So much more useful! I prefer it to 6S and 8 because: It's higher capacity than 6S (which is the same as RHW-4) It's smaller than 8 (3 vs 4 tiles) 6 Lanes is probably the most common (at least in Westchester!) [+ see comment 1] I understand the puzzle piece based diagonals, as I have used them, but a 90 degree turn would double the possibilities of 6C. Unfortunately 6C is virtually useless, at least where i use it, because I hardly ever have just straight highways in my regions. And a big jaggedy S type thing would still be better than just straight. Just some thoughts...

By alexm309 at 2009-09-12 Highway turns! It works... But it sure aint pretty. will there/is there a RHW-6C 90 Degree turn? I apologize for my Idiocy, but i found nothing.

I was on the highway up in northern NY, and i noticed that many highway on off ramps were a road, which split into two smaller roads (equivalent to the MIS system) and i thought: Hey, how come i can't do that on sim city? Its basically just a Y where the road splits into two diagonal MISs which can in turn connect to the highway in both directions! its so simple, but so lacking in the game. And I'm no modder... so does it exist?

My rich sims are jobless... please help
alexm309 replied to ChiNook58's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I have a situation like this too, but i think its mainly because the rich sims are too stuck up to use mass transit, and are really picky about commute times. For example, in one particular city to the mid left of my map is a community of high wealth sims who can easily acess high tech industry and $$$ offices by a train (I Know, because $$ wealth sims use to train to go to some of those high tech industries and offices) The other way to get there is to take a nice long winding scenic avenue (with plenty of stop lights) across the north, then back down to the work places, but thats tooo long for these sims! It's kind of a vicous cycle, the high wealth sims move in due to demand, they whine about no jobs, then move out. Few months later, the demand for high wealth is still there, so more move in, then these sims whine about no jobs, and move out. and it goes like that until you zone for jobs closer to them. This is how i find it to work anyway... especially with a not that fantastic road network (i got rivers and mountains and all sorts of good stuff like that in the way too) -
I know! Snow would be sweet! Is there a mod for putting snow on the mountains? also @jmusacha, i would love to start a region and pick a date, say 1650 (yay New York!), and build a historical city, and as time goes on more things (such as cars!) are unlocked, kind of like simcity 3000 (from what i remember), but unfortunatly, theres no real 'time' in simcity... such a shame

When I want to begin a new region, I head on over to the STEX, and look for a really nice region to download. Then i put trees everywhere. Thats right! I go from city to city putting trees, its tedious, but it looks great! (Especially with cyclerdog's tree mod! Props for that!) When i first begin, i usually pick small cities, and make farming communities, or very small suburbs. If possible, I'll connect those small cities together, and to a Central medium sized city with rails. I always put down rails first, and with the NAMS wide curves, the trains flow smoothly, and they're looking good! The medium sized city usually becomes.. just that, a medium city with both suburbs and a nice little downtown (No sky scrapers usually) and eventually, the combined demand of all the medium cites and small cities will lead to a nice big large city! Although I've only done it this way a few times, and i kinda failed a few times, when i did it correctly, the results were great! I'm just curious, about how you start your regions. I know lots of people grid it up, and go for big sky sky scrapers! But frankly, i think thats quite ugly if you have a huge metropolis... surrounded by flat emptiness... How do you start your regions? Also, a picture of my current region at its earlyest stages (hehe... havent quite finished the trees... i'll get to them tho) (Region curtious of Bizarboy)

O i see. That would make sense... except the elevated trains that leave the city don't go anywhere... they come to dead ends. Can elevated trains turn around on a dead end?

I decided to make some big interconnected regional cities, so i made some suburbs to get my main region a little boost to the demand, and connected them with a highway and a few roads. I went into my main region and zoned... you know, everything! lots a residential, commercial, and in one area, industrial, all connected by roads avenues a big ol' highway, and some elevated rail. I decided to connected my elevated rail to the neighboring cities thinking "ok, this'll be good when i make more suburbs in those regions" So everything was set up (utilities, city services etc) and I hit go. Almost instantly, maybe 3 months, there were 30,000 sims living there. This made no sense, i had maybe 4,000 total jobs, maybe 1000 next door, but everyone was employed! I let it run for a game year (35,000 sims now) And nothing was wrong. Everyone was happy and employed. I checked the roads rails and elevated rails leaving the city, and 90% of the sims were commuting on roads and elevated rails that lead nowhere, to neighboring cities that... did not exist! In fact, 9% of the 10% remaining were commuting on the legitimate highway back to my original town. The rest walked to nearby commercial areas. My industrial section is completely unemployed according to the commute query tool. I'm sure my question is obvious now! Why are my sims commuting to nowhere, yet happily employed, and how is this happening? If its related, i'm using simulator Z.
