  1. My airport looks abandoned

    CO$$ and CO$$$
  2. Show us your Downtown!

Love your downtown 1000000000000! That's when I was playing with CAM 2 years ago.
  3. Sure! Here's a basic idea, note that the NAM's base network capacity is set on high... there is indeed much more congestions on the left than everywhere else, it is because I have tons of offices at the other side, yeah, I had to put them somewhere! And don't get me wrong, I love offices. This city is the only one that does not have any office building to leave place for more residents! Now here is my layout, most of my cities if it isn't all of them are designed like that. I do have railways all around my region, I quite like'em. I would say a subway is a must have is a metropolis like this, you can see its effiency by yourself... The air pollution is bad, althrought I checked every ordinances that helps. One thing I wanted to point out. You probably noticed that I have the mercy General of BSC. This huge hospital is cheap, so bad that I considered that cheating and changed its monthly cost so it be proportionnal with the default maxis hospital. I want to play as much like the unmodded game as possible. Of course you'll tell me why I didn't link this city to my offices with a highway instead of an avenue. There is no reason for that, I'm a dumb.
  4. I started a region on hard once and it was pretty succefull when half of my building kept leaving due to commute time. After a while I raged and deleted my city as well as the entire region!

  6. How do I use route query?

Well, my PC spec is more than resonnable (1,5 TB of hard drive, 12GB of ram, intel core I7 950 3,06, nvidia GTX580 1500 MB). I have one big-tile city that has only 650K of population. Sadly the simulation has already started to slow down as hell every 1-2 month. Soon i will have to lower the graphic option to help the simulator to run a bit faster... So I can't think of a 4 million city that still runs fast unless I'm missing something.
  7. This is in fact true when we begin a new region as the demand is quite low. But to the point where I am the demand for residential is so high I could zone an entire mid-size map of high density without filling the demand... I zone the same way when the demand is high. I do this because highrise buildings will be developed and because keeping your demand high is safe for your budget. At a certain point your city is designed for a certain population (lets say 1.000.000 people). If the demand is high you keep a equal population or you get more people (by the development of higher buildings or development of new zones). However if you zone too much (to fulfill this demand) you could get a slower development of highrise buildings and in the worst case a drop of demand. If the demand becomes negative people will leave. If this negative demand is too high there will be less people living (and paying taxes) while your city is still designed for those 1.000.000 people. You could chose to demolish certain facilities (schools, hospitals, infrastructure) to save money but this will lead to a lower desirability which causes a further drop of demand (at least for $ and $$). It's like a vicious circle. I know what you mean. But let's say your city desirability is optimized. In my residential areas I place parks (which are the best to attract and keep the desirability high for residents) almost every 6-10 cases. Everything is covered by every type of education. The ordinances to lower the polution are checked, the crime is almost absent and there is no unemployment. Then even if the demand drops, no citizens are gonna leave the city at all. That's how I play for the mosty part. I abuse of taxes, I build what I want where I want. If you wonder how I keep the crime so low, I use the crime doesn't pay mod. 2 deluxe police stations that cover the same area almost competely prevent crime to appear. Medium and high wealth resident hate crime and what I do wouldn't be possible with the default maxis crime stystem. Now here's one of my metropolis, high polution, insane traffic problem (I do have the NAM)... Night picture without purpose but hey, that's beautiful... And Here's the desirability for high wealth resident, the least attractive part is commercial service and the 2 red parts on the top are the disease research center and the advanced research center wich both create radiation but on a very small radius so I personnaly don't care putting em' in my IH. I see one dilapilated building (Do you see more than one..?) in the entire city, and I do have cities that have none. It's all a matter of maximizing the desirability so even if there is a demand drop residents will want to stay.

  9. I owe you my thanks. Perhaps I will download some more stadium that boost the cap, and these BSC parks will perfectely blend into my high wealth city.
  10. Hi, first time I'm asking a question here, I hope you are all having a good day. As most of you knows the max residential demand cap drops as the population goes up, preventing big skysrapers (4x4) to grow, and it is mainly a problem on big city size. I wanted to know the best method to increase it. I know stadiums help a lot to increase the cap but it becomes insuffisent when you get to have multiple millions of people in a city. I used to place plazas all around my cities, it does increase the cap, but also takes a lot of space. So my question here is, what's the best method to increase the residential cap without using to much space, excluding cheated way. I don't wanna start cheating on my region. I'll gladly be reading all of your comments, thanks!
