Soltangris, thank you for pointing me to the sticky. Honestly, I ignored that thread because I just assumed it was a link to the manual to download. You should have point a more descriptive name as the title. Anyway, your manual was/is very very informative and helpful!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!

One note I've learned the hard way. Do NOT accidentally hit the load button when you mean to hit save. It's surprisingly easy to do and last night I lost 2 hours worth of work (yes that was even trying the autosave and manual save too).
-
Ok, I played more last night. I ran out of tokens and the building stopped. I didn't have the cashflow I needed to buy enough tokens to speed along the building. The rate it was going it would take 8 hours to build. That's crazy. So, essentially, your really need a TON of tokens to dump to these things to make them meaningful.
-
I'm simply not getting it. So, if I don't have any tokens, but have plenty of money I still can't build these? I have 2 blueprints...1 has been at 3% progress for about 5 hours now. The other says "not started yet". The one that says 3% honestly, I'm not sure how I got it to start. Actually, now that I look at it, it says status: "stopped"?!?! Great.

Works great here.

The SimCity 5 Thread (Formerly "Is SimCity 5 Ever Coming Out?").

Originally posted by: Ilikeseattle I might as well copy what I wrote in the Cities XL thread. To sum things up, nothing will ever replace SimCity 4 and no city builder will ever be more popular than SimCity 4 unless it has features not included in SimCity 4. The popularity of SimCity 4 itself has been waning so the city builder genre as a whole is waning. Unless something changes the market (and culture) trends of videogames significantly, no new serious city building games will ever be released (by a profitable corporation) again.quote> I disagree. I see your points and they are valid, but I disagree. I'm not saying SC5 is due out next year, it may be 5 years or 10 years, but it will come out eventually. Cities XL 2011 won't reach the level the Sim City series has in popularity, but I'm enjoying it quite a bit. -

I think most of us are over thinking this. Maxis is a business owned by EA. EA is responsible to shareholders (owners) to make as much money as they can. There will be a Sim City 5. It's a matter of when not if. Sim City Societies was likely their Sim City 5. They probably got bored with the normal recipe of Sim City and wrongly assumed most of us wanted a change of formula as well. Years later now seeing their error, they will probably do Sim City 5 properly. How do I know? Read sentence #2 in this post. The fact that Sim City 4 has sold well (see below) and is STILL for sale 7 years later speaks volumes. It's been a top seller on Steam for goodness sake. There exists some VIP at EA who will pull up a report one day and see that Sim City 4 has sold "X" amount of copies and deduce that a sequel should be made to generate "X" more sales. Look at Civ 5. Here is NPD's sales report from 2003. Notice Sim City 4 sold more than Call of Duty and Battlefield 1942. 1 - THE SIMS: SUPERSTAR EXPANSION PACK - WIN - ELECTRONIC ARTS 2 - THE SIMS DELUXE - WIN - ELECTRONIC ARTS 3 - COMMAND & CONQUER: GENERALS - WIN - ELECTRONIC ARTS 4 - WARCRAFT III: FROZEN THRONE EXPANSION PACK - WIN - VIVENDI 5 - THE SIMS: MAKIN' MAGIC EXPANSION PACK - WIN - ELECTRONIC ARTS 6 - THE SIMS: UNLEASHED EXPANSION PACK - WIN - ELECTRONIC ARTS 7 - SIM CITY 4 - WIN - ELECTRONIC ARTS 8 - CALL OF DUTY - WIN - ACTIVISION 9 - MS AGE OF MYTHOLOGY - WIN - MICROSOFT 10 - BATTLEFIELD 1942 - WIN - ELECTRONIC ARTS -
Unless I missed it, there is no tutorial. I'm very confused on the whole "assign tokens thing". I don't see any tokens to assign, does that mean I don't have any to assign? Can someone explain or point me to a resource on how to do it?

Update: I'm up to about 15 hours with the game. My city is 500,000+ people. After playing this amount of time, I can confirm I am REALLY enjoying it. It's really fun up until you get elites, then from elites to the 500,000 it gets difficutly, still fun, but difficult. Then at 500,000 you get higher density offices and buildings etc, that make growth easier. I'm finding it's extremely easy to grow cities, but I'm finding it's extremely difficult to keep them happy on all fronts. Not enough water, food, waste, leisure, etc. Building items that are supposed to reduce these things don't seem to help much if at all.
-
I have this leisure problem too, I'm building tons of leisure stuff and it's still orange all over. I'm at 110,000 people, I can build more, but it's killing my budget.

I used that link and have played the game for about 3 hours. I'm in Ohio. Enjoying the game so far, it's worth $20.
-
I'm enjoying the game more than I thought I would. No, it's not as good as Sim City 4, but I also realize they are not trying to be. It's fun in and of itself. On a side note, I posted a video on youtube of CitiesXL 2011 with Nvidia surround (triple monitors).

I'm going to finish up my strategy city, then do what you are doing. I think the simpliest way to circumvent this "writer's block" is look at the city journals on this site. I've gotten very inspired by looking at other people's creativity. I'm not very creative and have to steal ideas from other people.

Steam is having one heck of a sale for games. Cities XL is $20. Is it worth $20? I missed out on the demo, but if it's a good city simulation game, I'll get it. Yes, I've read the reviews, but it seems like a mixed bag. Thanks.

I can tell you that in my 4 years of experience using Steam, they don't disappoint. They also have several MMO games on there, so they must work it out somehow with the publishers. And YES, you do get game keys. I can verify that (although I have not bought CitiesXL on steam) for other games you in fact do.
-
Thanks for all the responses guys. I guess I'm looking for Sim City 5 and should realize that this isn't it. I still have a few days to think it over before the sale ends.
-
One person says yes, the other says no. Gotta tie breaker? I would only be buying this for a single player experience and not subscribing to anything.

I have used sketchup in the past, but not for BAT's. I always thought the program was incredibly simple. A tutorial would be nice for BAT's using this program.
