Why the simulation breaks down severely in one area
rodent1989 replied to Icoxo's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
might as well get this question out of the way early: do you ahve the NAM? if not go the modds/downloads section and get it and see if it fixes the problem. iF i'm understanding the problem, then peoples commutes that are across the avenue are listed as "long" but really thats only like 150-200 feet across an avenue. I would try using the NAM pedestrian bridge pieces to build a route across the top of the avenue. or, i would build a street that connects the two sides of the aevenue but isnt necessarily go past the edges of the avenue, this will build a sidewalk for cars and people to cross the avenue. (i don't know if thats clear so check the diagram if you don't understand) I've heard of problems liek this before and it comes from the fact that the median of the avenue can't be crossed. so the sims must walk to the nearest intersection and go around. same is true with cars. ______________________________ _westbound _______ _________ _median ___________l l_________ _eastbound __________________ -
Open a "Practice city" and make it an island with lots of curves and bays/inlets of water. Then builda coastal road around the outside (with apprx. 3 tiles between the water and road). Then zone around the outside as R and slowly woryour way into the center. Because the area you started with isn't square, maybe you can get some cool looking cities to break the habit. (I'll post a pic later, i have a some cool island cities) Edit: check the "Show us your accomplishment" thread or any of the City journals too

This looks incredible! I like the maxis stadium, but not when the same one is in every city. Variety is great!

Organzation is just chaos under a different label..

I've done it, i reorgaized all my plugins into folders. Just make sure the appication isn't running (which was already mentioned) -
The elementry schools have too little capacity!

did you reduce bus funding to zero? That's key, you want max funding over the smallest possible area. -
If you have specific ordinances in mind the Prima guide has a description of all of them. Most of them (in my experience) have a valuable effect, but some of the most useful ones are UBER expensive. (like carpool incentive and emission reduction). I recommend clean air act because it helps get rid of dirty industry. Jr. sports program reduces crime, and pro-reading helps boost education.

this is probably one of the best threads i've ever read because everyone is presenting a different way of doing things and its kind of nice to read. I usually determine where i want my downlown (usually i like to put it near a lake) and so i biuld an avenue right past the lake. Then everything in the city builds off the avenue. Having lakesore property right away eliminates the need for parks and r$$ shows up after only a few years. Then add in water and schools and r$$$ and IHT will start filling in.

go look at the "show us your accompishment" thread to see some really impressive cities, and maybe get some ideas for your own.
-
yes definitely they will get alot bigger! 4x4's that hold 2-3 thousand people in one building
-
one-ways are only available if you have the rush hour expansion (or SC4 Deluxe). Also, you can use the NAM for the 2-way to 1-way transition.

while funneling sims thru the highway should boost development, just like Gridlock said, the congestion and noise will limit high wealth development. If you want to try an interesting experiment, place residential in the center and industrial on the outside with a "barrier" of commercial in between. That forces people to use roads with commerce on it and every trip by car will pass a commercial lot. It works pretty darn well too.

When placing a heavy rail line, is there a guideline for how far the line should run? And how to space out the stations? I've heard "Conncect your residential with industrial areas" a million times. So. If my residential and industrial areas are in separate city tiles, should I go with heavy rail, monorail, el-rail, or GLR (can you even make GLR connections?) Does the best choice change if cost is no issue? Thanx in advance
-
very useful tips: thanks alot guys
-
thanx for all the input, i'm to lazy to lay out GLR but thanx for all the help architect2k thanx for that idea, i may try a layout like that, with my heavy rail over long distances

i ddon't have a pis (sorry) but i used to have a region that was an "L" shape, and followed a coastline down to a large city. It was pretty cool. The best way to make strange configs is to add as you go. But MAKE SURE YOU ALWAYS ADD DOWN AND RIGHT. never up. That will wipe everything out. The L region started as a square, but i kept adding on so i could add more cities.

i liked what duke 87 said about flaming streams of hot oil, that would be sweet. SC5 perhaps... but i wish i had a pisture of the one bad fire i had...i had like 4-5 cola power plants and a nuke all in a corner of the sity, and they caught on fire while i was on the phone. Then i came back just in time to see the nuke blow up. Even if it is impossible...i like that explosion...

Somebody should make a civil war fort, like fort sumter, that floats on its own island similar to prepo's Olavinlinna Castle lot. I really wish i could have some old forts off the coast of my "older" cities. By the way, if anyone decides tro try, make sure that the power consumed is 0 so that those ugly power lines don't have to go out into the water.

use the "you don't deserve it" cheat dont forget the apostrophe, it unlocks all of the reward buildings including the grand train station. Good luck!

use the tunnel digger and have the three intercect inside a small pit. The use the rain mod to cover the intersection. I don't know exactly how the rain mod works because i dont have it, but ive seen something like this in a CJ.

EAs Terrible at Tech Support
rodent1989 replied to SimTrim101's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
EA's suckiness led me here! Happy ending i s'pose. I can't register my mac because the serial numbers on Mac games are invalid. Idiots...
