  1. Whales!

After my first couple of cities I started increasing the amount of water and soon had some large bays and coastlines. I was pleasantly surprised to see some whales lounging about and occasionally spouting water plumes. I don't know if/how deep or large you have to make the body of water to get the whales to show. Also I think (not positive) you need to have Visual Effects set to medium or high. Now I am definitely not advocating hassling whales in real life but here in SC4 I just tried an experiment by closing off a bay with whales in it. The whales seem to move differently (aka know something is up) and they don't move as much then they disappear. Yup, whales are smart! :-) Any other cool critters? Is there a Grabboid mod? :-)
  2. Primitive UNDO

Hi all, So in SC3K you could do "File Save As" and easily save your city under different file names as you progressed. I was disappointed to see that you could not do this in SC4 but figure maybe it would goof up/complicate region play which didn't exist in SC3k. So what I do is from time to time, like before radical risky changes, I "Control Alt Delete" and then click on Task Manager and copy my city file from MyDocuments/SimCity4/Regions into another folder. I think it is important to copy them into a different folder because Simcity4 seems to do some cleanup/delete of files that it doesn't need in the Regions folders. Like I said, it's primitive. Anyway, if you need to go back to an older version, exit out of the city/back out to region then just copy the city file you want back into the specific regions folder, change the name back to the original and reload the city.
  3. Terraforming Water

Hi All, First post here. I started with SimCIty Classic and have fooled with it for *years*! Several months ago I dusted off the Simcity 3000 cd and gave that a whirl. Now I am on Simcity 4. I have a SC4 water question and the clearest way to ask it is to compare it against SC3K where if you are in waterpipe mode, you then click on Landscape and then you see all the terrain contours and can then raise, lower or level even terrain that is underwater *without* the water being shown and obscuring your view. Is there a way to do this in SC4? Hotkeys? I can get into pipe mode fine and see even underwater terrain without water in the way but as soon as I click on Landscape, the water comes back and I get to terraform blind underwater. Why is this important? Well it is not crucial but for instance I ran a subway line out to an island but the terrain was too steep so I had to fumble blind then check in pipe mode, then go back. Why can't it be like SC3k? :-) Thanks! Ron
