As an Iowan, I wish I could be offended when I read "Iowa of all places", but that was my first reaction, too. Intended or not, it might provide economic stimulus? Education in Iowa is better than you might think, but they take their degrees elsewhere.

I'd like to add that getting someone "second-hand stoned" from exhaled cannabis smoke is generally the result of concentrated effort. Such as smoking copious amounts in an enclosed system (e.g. automobile). However, Tarkus, I think you ought to explain to your neighbor your situation with your allergy. If he's not sympathetic, perhaps you could threaten with police? Of course, the illegality of the whole matter complicates it. If my neighbor came to me with a similar complaint, I'd have to hide in my car to smoke, couldn't just go outside like with a cigarette. Legalization would have the benefit of allowing governments or business control who smokes where. Can someone make me a legal drug park for SC4? Decrease in crime and land value within a radius? Maybe I'll officially request it in the proper forum after work.

XP suddenly refuses to recognize play disc.
matusmatus posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
So I get home from work, all excited to play me some SC4, as always. I take out There Will Be Blood (waste of time!) from my only optical drive, pop in the ol' play disc, and windows refuses to recognize it (appears as empty in My Computer). Now this happens from time to time, and some combination of opening/closing the drive again and/or restarting has always fixed it. I suppose it should be noted that I sometimes need to manually open the tray with the paperclip hole, but I've always been able to read the discs once I get them in. Well it didn't this time. So I tried some other discs, to see if my drive is kaput. Several DVDs and CD-ROMs loaded up just fine, including SC4D disc one. Also, the surface of the disc in question is _totally_immaculate_. It's as if my computer has gained sentience and is using it to intervene on my SC4 habit. I am almost certain that this is not the case. Last night, I did disable a few windows services in an attempt to optimize my Windows XPerience, but I've since re-enabled all of them to no effect. Other than that, (and There Will Be Blood) I haven't done anything since the last time I simmed it up. Any ideas? [deleted by tungston] I'm hesitant to reinstall, as I'm afraid that I won't be able to. Also, I looked through the forums, and saw a few similar problems, but didn't see any threads where explorer wouldn't recognize the disc. I sincerely hope I'm not asking a question that has already been asked, however I need my fix or else I might turn to drugs or stamp collecting. +++ SC4 Deluxe (came with The Sim City Box) No updates. (Disc says 2008 on it, I assumed it came fully patched.) XP3 P4 2.8 1GB RAM 2GB Page file GeForce... 6200? Lite-On DVD+-RW EDIT: I forgot to say please and thank you. Please and thank you. -
Chicago Spire vs. Freedom Tower
matusmatus replied to kawan's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Though I recognize the need for buildings that are curvy and tall in Chicago's skyline, I'm having trouble getting past the fact that the spire so closely resembles a wood screw or drill bit. About the Freedom Tower: If I recall, Chicago and London both suffered fires many times more devastating than the 9/11 attacks. So there's the Monument and the Chicago Fire Academy, (and we can have a ground zero monument) but the cities got rebuilt. I am of the opinion that two towers taller than the last would be the most fitting in the long run. I guess the difference is that 9/11 was deliberate, but how long will it be, in historical time, before 9/11 is placed in context? Not longer than a couple generations I say. I don't mean to offend, but I say let the city heal. We still have a military base in Pearl Harbor right? Edit: I forgot to mention that I am very fond of the design of the Freedom Tower in its own right.
