  1. 24 inch Gas Line Explodes in San Bruno

Guess what, they were in your neighbourhood before, this accident doesn't mean that they suddenly are more likely to explode. That "pipeline was high risk" article is very misleading. It wasn't high risk as in "it's more likely to explode", its high risk in that "if it explodes it will do a lot of damage". which it did.
  2. postponed releases

Luckily for developers thesedays is that console hardware does not change, meaning a game shipped a year late isn't going to look dated, unlike the late 90's where pc hardware was changing all the time.
  3. Tropico 4

Looks more like an expansion pack than a new game. But who cares, is what they do with it, not what they call it, that matters. From those screenshots, i see: Small boats, (sail, speedboat) some kind of powerplant thing on the water with a big boat (its not the oil refinery, i think) Shopping mall (and one very busy street!) Big cruise ship Water park All in all, i'll be buying this game for sure.

Or at least, the internet will, not sure how many 13 year olds will be playing sim city by then) As for the day itself? was a school day, but due to living in Australia everything had "happened" by the time i woke up, as i recall.
  5. 24 inch Gas Line Explodes in San Bruno

Hope noone was killed, and that the injuries aren't to severe. that being said that's a bad looking fire there I'd suggest that noone points any fingers anytime soon folks, invesitations like these can take time, and the reasons aren't always as obvious as they'd seem.
  6. Australian Federal Election

Can't fathom why katter did that. On the other hand i wouldn't like the idea of him pushing through some of his ideas if he had supported the ALP.
  7. Taster

Who said you can't have RHW and nature in a single city, I'm impressed!
  8. Australian Federal Election

I thought the FF guy got kicked out in the voting, how long does he have till his term is up?

  10. Mosque to be built by Ground Zero, NYC (Poll)

Come again? What i'm saying is, that, lets say Iran doesn't allow churches. This doesn't mean that you can say "well Iran doesn't allow churches, so we won't allow a mosque". I Iran doesn't speak for Islam. Its just a country, not the religion. People seem to be getting that mixed up when they use that "well i don't see churches in the middle east" (they also seem to think that the USA speaks for chirstianity or some hogwash like that)

I find the "well they don't allow a church in x country/place" argument is extremely idiotic. These countries don't speak for the entire religion you know.

  14. The Current State of the American Health Care System

While driving north on a holiday one day, a few years back, there was a doctor who came onto the radio who has very similar views to that article. I do have to agree, however I think it would be very, very hard to "draw the line" so to speak. Still, at least displaying all the options to a patient would be a good idea, think "eg have painful treatment with 5% chance or go home for 5 weeks " etc.

  18. Australian Federal Election

Hehe. Had One of the Independent MP's on one of the morning shows thismorning, didn't sound like it was anywhere near as serious as the media is trying to make out.
  19. Australian Federal Election

If the nationals guy from WA intends to sit cross bench, it could mean that each major party has 72 "proper" members each. Add onto that the greens member for melbourne and you have 73-72. Now, if Wilkie and the Nationals guy (guess i should learn his name) don't commit to any particular party, the 3 other independents might have no choice but side with the ALP to get a functioning government.

It is a fact you know, lots of people in iraq have been killed. And by that i mean civilians. Be it by direct fire from US troops, by unententional misses, by suicide bombers or by lack of law promiting murders, a whole lot of people in iraq are dead due to the actions of the USA, a lot, lot, lot more than were killed on 9/11.

Take that how you will, but to me it inidcates that they're slightly dissilusioned with the LNP.
  23. Australian Federal Election

Why do you assume that the three ex national MP's are going to side with the Coalition? As Sam just pointed out, they did communicate with a frigging phone line. I heard thismorning that they said they opposed a privatly owned internet network. Most importantly, they are EX national. They became ex national for a reason, they aren't going to go running back to them very quickly i'd assume.
  24. Australian Federal Election

Somehow i'm thinking minute by minute commentry on this thing is going to be... tiring. Lot of counting still to go in a lot of seats that are still close. I'm also hearing something about a preferences deal with the greens in a 3 way split seats that could net another ALP seat that the ABC is counted as "won" etc. Interesting how its all gone down throughout the country though. Two party perfered is slightly ahead for the LNP. That being said, we don't really have a two party system anymore. Primary votes is something like 43% LNP, 38% ALP and 11% Greens.Seems like a lot of the green votes are just taken from labour, instead of from the LNP. In my biased mind, I could see either party forming a minority government with a proper mandate.
  25. Australian Federal Election

Waited 40 minutes to vote. Showgrounds where they usually do it was popular ish, but only 2 voting staff there so the line took ages to move.
