  1. ILL Tonkso's Review of SimCity

Cheers for the review, Tonks. It's such a shame that this had to happen to our series. I was so excited when I saw the annoucement, and it's all just been steadily destroyed over time. I can't imagine that there will be any overbearingly important features added at this point in the development cycle, especially if they're planning to run a beta programme in the next couple of months, so I'll personally be calling it on maintaining any hope of a turnaround before February. A real shame, as Glassbox actually looks like a solid engine. Wrap SC4 around it, and they had a strong start on the game we probably all wanted from the start.
  2. My Games...see what you think

I have a lot of different games for different platforms. I wanted to rate them to you and see if you agreed. First of all...the GBA games: 1. Pokemon Ruby (Yeah I no...Pokemon went out of fashion years ago but I still like the games!) 2. Pokemon Leaf Green (Ditto the above) 3. Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town (It's great, better than you would expect from a farming sim) 4. Dragonball Z: The Legacy of Goku (A big disappointment as I love the Anime) Secondly, the PC games, the top 3 are so close it switches a lot of the time: 1. Simcity 4: Rush Hour (On top at the moment as I don't feel like playing No. 2 or 3 yet) 2. Impossible Creatures (Superb but would be even better if I could get Insect Invasion to work) 3. Anno 1503: The New World (Not found the EP yet but it's great without it) 4. Rollercoaster Tycoon 2: Wacky Worlds (Is great but can't compete with the top 3) 5. Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge (Red Alert 2 was great but Yuri's Revenge was a letdown) 6. Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 (Only because it doesn't seem to work with XP) And Finally, the PS2 Games, BIG competition: 1. Dragonball Z Budokai 3 (This is Top Banana no doubt about it) 2. GTA: San Andreas (Very close between this and No. 3 but this has just better gameplay) 3. Sly 2: Band of Thieves (Superb and almost beats GTA, but lacks extremely minor things) 4. Spiderman 2 (I don't usually like superhero games, but this is the only exception. This ROCKS) 5. Dragonball Z Budokai 2 (Was good but isn't as good as some of my games) 6. GTA 3 (As many would probably agree, this is a bit better than Vice City after a while) 7. G1 Jockey 3 (Yep, horse racing, but it's surprisingly addictive!) 8. FIFA 2004 (It's ok but the AI is dodgy, and yet FIFA's AI is improved but the game is worse IMO) 9. GTA: Vice City (It's good but after a while it gets pretty boring and the 80's feel starts getting old) 10. Dragonball Z Budokai 1 (Worst of the Budokais, but I did learn some Japanese from it) 11. Tekken Tag Tournament (It's ok but the disc is scratched and it doesn't work anymore) 12. Gran Turismo 3 (It's getting a bit boring now and I do want to try GT4) 13. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 (It's ok but stupidly hard without cheats in which you can't get 100%) 14. Robot Wars: Arenas of Destruction (Absolute tripe! Gonna try and swap it for Dog's Life, which would be No. 5 if I had it) So there it is. Please comment if you have any views. Mr Veggie
  3. Mike Dixon-Kennedy, aka OnlyPlace4 or OP4

I saw this thread a couple of days ago whilst making a fleeting visit but due to problems with my internet and the repairs on the site this is my first chance to post. It's hard to find words to write really...I had such great respect for him and had great times with him in the chat. Always joking around. One of the people I really looked up to. It's more than sad knowing he's not going to come in anymore with his cheery attitude. Makes me regret my absence from here all that much more, knowing that I never got to share more moments with him through ST. My deepest condolences go out to his family, and I know we will all miss him here and for all the communities he was involved with. Thank-you for all the good times we shared here, Mike. Rest in Peace.
  4. The GTA4 thread

I finshed the game about a week or so ago, or at least one of the endings...was so annoyed when I missed out on the 30 hour completion achievement by 10 minutes... Ah well...I'll gladly play through it again at some point and make different decisions at different points in the game than what I did first time around.
  5. Flying Penguin Colony Discovered

I'll admit, the timing of this documentary being made news is certainly bad! When I saw the report on BBC1 this morning I saw the part with all the penguins in a huge flock like in the above picture and I couldn't help thinking it to look slightly fake...although the other shots certainly were real I reckon... This is all part of the penguins preparations to take over the world! You have been warned!

Everyone has a different "normal" weight and diabetes can happen to anyone, even if the risk of contracting it is heightened by poor diet. But missing out eating, drinking and sleeping makes me wonder how these guys became reasearchers...
  7. Heath Ledger Found Dead in Manhattan Apartment

One of the best rising actors...gone...Tis a sad day...
  8. The GTA4 thread

Looks like this'll be the first GTA game I get for the Xbox, as I have a 360 and no PS3...I should get a PS3...I love Gran Turismo too and that's a PS exclusive. Really looking forward to this GTA though. Sounds and looks fantastic.
  9. 2007 Was Indeed the Year of the Pig

Well I don't remember much of that at all...shows how much attention I paid. 2007 was pretty...boring or just bad. Why doesn't anything GOOD happen?
  10. Trixies 2007 Acceptance Speeches!

I don't think I've ever laughed so much once opening the "Best Looking Organic Product" award! I wasn't expecting to see that. But I'm grateful and thank-you to whoever voted me for that! And congratulations to all those who won awards and to all the nominees too! It's been a fantastic year! Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go and have a facial and get my hair fluffed up a bit!
  11. I have a sudden urge to play a game

I still am a member of Runescape, and occassionally I'll play it, even though I spend most of my gaming time on World of Warcraft or BETA testing Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor. It certainly has it's fun side, but I've hit the stage now where levellin skills is so tedious I just don't bother, and also at the point where there are not enough quests at my skill levels to help me level up. The only ones I have left are too high for my skills... I recently had the urge to pull out DBZ Budokai 3 (not the new one) out from my shelf. After dusting it off, I remembered it as probably the best side-on fighter for the PS2 (yes, even better than Tekken, Mortal Combat and Street Fighter). I honestly don't think I've ever played a side-on fighter like it! Now after watching a video of the new version (the free-roaming version) and I think that even if you don't like DBZ the games are a must!
  12. Countdown to 200,000!

Congrats ST on 200,000 members! How long untilwe reach 300,000? At this rate, probably 3 weeks!
  13. Maybe sumtime next year we will get an expansion!

You make a fair point, but there is a key difference: In the Sims 2, things such as pets or cars are all very nice and require a few unique mechanics but they aren't the core essentials of the game. The game functions without them. Stripped to the bare bones yes, but functional nonetheless. SC is different. What they've done is taken out the CORE features of what was SimCity and thrown them aside and introduced a whole new core feature. Adding back CORE features that should have been in the game in the first place in expansion packs is absurd, especially as the two systems could conflict somewhat. And if the game does flop, EA wouldn't make an expansion anyway, as they wouldn't waste their resources on it if it doesn't make money. Expansion packs are for new features, not for replacing them.
  14. Weird Laws

Illegal to die in the Houses of Parliament? What the heck are they going to do about it? Arrest your corpse and put it in prison for a certain amount of time? What a punishment that would be if you're already dead...It's stupid...
  15. Cartoon Network Invaded

How is Billy and Mandy like Spongebob at all? Spongebob has a plot for a start (albeit a loose one), Billy and Mandy has none that I've ever seen. Billy and Mandy is just gross to the extreme! Why would you want your child to watch it? Most of the CN shows now are overly complicated or boring or just plain stupid. I think I dropped CN after all the shows I watched went over to Toonami (mainly DragonBall) as everything left and all the newer stuff coming in at the time was pathetic. I then dropped Toonami when they went through their readjustment and got rid of the DragonBall series and Code Lyoko and had a more childish theme to it. They didn't last long after that and turned into what is now CN Too. Now I just don't tend to bother. Mostly because the only cartoon (well, anime really) isn't shown here in England on any of the channels I have, and the new Spongebob episodes are rather...terrible. And I always miss Family Guy when it's on too
  16. Avatar Caption Game

    Pucker up!
  17. Dumbledore is Gay

Either way, the series is still absolutely fantastically written!
  18. Dumbledore is Gay

Richard Harris (The original actor who played Dumbledore until he died in 2002) portrayed the character of Dumbledore EXACTLY as he is in the book, from the general appearance, to his actions, to the vocal tones of calm that are described in the book. Michael Gambon portrays the character in a more aggressive manner, as we have seen throughout films 3, 4 and 5. Some people (like myself) don't like this portrayal, but there is nothing we can do about it. Back to the character himself. It's a surprise that he is gay, but so what? It was never mentioned because it made no impact on the story whatsoever. Anyone who picks up the books and read them are never going to know that Dumbledore is homosexual unless someone tells them so. It has only been mentioned now to stop the filmmakers making an error though one of the lines they were planning on putting into the film about one of Dumbledore's past girlfriends. I personally don't see why there is such a big news interest in it...
  19. Resident Evil 3 coming out

Now up to 4. Not seen that myself but I've heard it's very good, making for an entire quadrilogy of awesomeness. I believe the Alien series has 4 too and half my friends are mad about it, yet I haven't seen a single one. As for Resident Evil, I have the first one. It's good, nothing special and a bit loosely put together in storyline I thought. I've seen the film 3 times and not once have I spotted anyone called Alice (I presume it's the character Milla Jovovich plays). Not seen Resi Evil 2 and don't know whether I will. As fun as zombies are to kill on my 360, movies about them tend to feel rather dull in my opinion.
  20. Launch of Halo 3

If I hadn't bought Armored Core 4 yesterday (only for the multiplayer mech battling as single player is...welll...ew) I'd have bought Halo 3 today...I unfortunately wasn't sure on the release date of Halo 3 so I guess I missed out. I'll get it when the queues have died down.
  21. Who here hates Pennies?

I don't like 1p or 2p coins...the vending machine at my sports centre doesn't take them!!
  22. Your Favorite Dimension Of SimCity...

Terrafoorming and building cities spannign multiple tiles. Once I got carried away, terraformed a huge region, went back and put trees all over it, went to build on it and thought it would destroy the natural beauty of the world I just created. So I hust looked at that region...and realised I'd just wasted days creating something I wasn't ever going to use! But that's what makes the games so good! Not to say that city building isn't fun either!
  23. THZ Ashy Traffic Textures Mod

Wow! I mean...WOW! I always thought that the black was slightly unrealistic (even if it IS asphalt), as British asphalt isn't completely black, but almost a greyish colour just like these! I'm sure that somehow the Euro Roads Mod and this could be fused together to make some sort of solution, but these alone are some brilliant work!
  24. World Trade Center 911 Where were you???

I was just waking up and getting ready for the morning school run when I saw it on the news, getting my parents to watch the TV. I was shocked to see a building I even knew about actually burning. I can't remember where I was when they actually collapsed as I don't remember the actual times they did, but nonetheless I was stunned. R.I.P all those who lost their lives on that day.
  25. XBOX 360, PS3 or Wii?

At the moment it's hard to say. At this current time I think it's between the Wii and the 360. The Wii is a brand new idea to gaming and has a lot of potential that Nintendo and the developers can play around with. For pure hardcore gaming, which has become more popular in the last decade or two, the 360 is the machine to use. At the moment the PS3 is far too expensive for what it really is, and the games currently released on it are relatively sub-par (even Resistance: Fall of Man in my opinion). Looking to the future, the novelty appeal and gaming quality of the Wii I reckon will start to slacken and fall behind the other consoles (although as a gaming machine it is still very good). The 360 will still hold the market as bigger and better games take full advantage of its hardware. However, as the price tag of the PS3 falls and the more anticipated games are released on it it should start to catch up to the 360. It depends on what games you really want to play to be honest. The way I see it: Novelty games are on the Wii mainly, Shooters and other similar games on the 360, and platformers/racers on the PS3.
