  1. Pick 2 or 3 cities in the world that you would combine together to form your utopia.. My picks: San Francisco: Consistent year-round climate, educated and tech-savvy population Amsterdam: Fascinating old-world architecture, culture, history, social tolerance Tokyo: Excellent 24 hour entertainment, complex yet efficient public transportation system
  2. Your education level of 131 might be a bit low for high tech and commercial office jobs.. you should consider upgrading your cities' schools if you have the budget.
  3. R$ dont want to move in

The best solution I found is to tax the $$ and $$$ residents.. don't raise taxes so high they won't move in but high enough they'll generate the money to continue to provide services for the majority R $ population.
  4. http://www.cnbc.com/id/35459635 Kinda thought of waste to energy plants when I read that.. Dunno if Cramer's recommendations are credible, but with my liberal use of them in my towns, their stocks would certainly soar (on SimNation's exchange of course!)
  5. Favorite European Cities

Amsterdam Munich Zurich Paris Venice Barcelona
  6. Parcelization of Industry

The larger buildings are more prone to crime and thus probably won't be operating at full capacity.
  7. On my old computer (which was also dual core), I had Linux as the OS and ran Simcity 4 through a windows emulator (Wine). Through Wine, I could specify Simcity to use only 1 core on my dual core system and the game stopped crashing. Now that I've gotten a new computer, I've encountered this same problem running the game in Windows 7. Is there a command in Windows 7 to specifically make Simcity 4 use only 1 core on my dual core system? Unfortunately, the emulator in Linux doesn't work for simcity 4 on this system..
  8. Go get a job you lazy morons...

Try in the following order: 1) Install Simulator Z of NAM 2) Improve your city's education system.. at least give every residential area access to an elementary school and high school education. You should start seeing some Manufacturing and small office jobs arrive at this point. 3) Add bus stops once your roads are too congested.. add subway system when your sims can't get to the other end of town fast enough.
  9. I remember reading somewhere that even among sims of the same wealth level, the ones who are more educated make more money. For example, the R$ sims of an EQ of 200 make about $40,000/yr while the R$ sims of an EQ of 0 make barely $20000/yr. Does anyone have official info regarding this?
  10. Divided City

Maybe make your region one city and each square a neighborhood. Take one of the squares and don't build any outgoing connections from it.
  11. First off, I'm using Simulator Z in the NAM released around June or July.. and I never build any freight train systems for my industrial zones. My industry develops fine and the freight trucks on the road seem to suffice. Is there any point to using freight trains instead of good old roads carrying freight trucks? I seem to be plagued with persistent "medium" pollution in my high tech zones due to lots of trucks.. will a freight train solve that?
  12. I usually find that the simplest solution to something being in high demand is to just satisfy it rather than fight it.. exceptions being dirty industry (too much pollution) or agriculture (takes up too much room). Even then, a mediocre solution to high dirty demand is to zone it in a new city. If you want skyscrapers to properly develop, you'll need lots of high tech industry, at least from what I've seen. So if towering skyscrapers are your goal, at least start zoning for high density industrial (and remember to tax manufacturing and dirty out.)
  13. heavy R$$$ abandonment

Do those buildings go completely abandoned or they just get replaced with R $$ or R $ sims?
  14. Show us your Ghettos

I would but i'm near my R $ demand cap in this city and removing the stadiums would destroy this "ghetto"
  15. C$ Demand

Sometimes, CS $$ and CS $$$ buildings will dilapidate to CS $ and house hundreds of CS $ jobs in one place..
  16. C$ Demand

In a neighboring city, set taxes on all commercial zones to 20% except CS$. Zone lots of high density commercial here to soak up all the CS$ demand. Make sure you can also accommodate a lot of R $'s here too.
  17. Airport high crime!

I think the "Crime Doesn't Pay" mod fixes this
  18. Did you add new cities to your region? You may want to multiply that figure by the number of adjacent cities you have. It's a well known bug..
  19. Show us your Ghettos

Here's mine: Still baffles me why the CS$$$ lots develop in this ghetto..
  20. Residential Organization

I arrange it the following way: RRR RHR RRR Where R is a 4x4 high density residential grid. H is a hospital and (optional) 1x4 residential which can be replaced with parks.

Very simple idea: If demand for X is high, build more zones for X. If demand for Y is low, don't bother wasting money building zones of Y.
  22. Early in your region and especially if you're new, building what's in high demand seems to be the best bet. Once the demand for that zone is satisfied, something else usually will be in high demand again.
  23. Not sure if it's considered a cheat but download NAM, select Simulator Z and also get the RTMT addon that lets you put bus and subway stops on roads. Put enough stops so that 90% of your city has a bus/subway stop within 5 tiles of every location. I've been able to achieve skyscrapers using only simulator z and rtmt (no additional addons, cheats, or custom lots.) Also, you're only in year 13 right now.. it's not likely you'll get skyscrapers until at least year 30 or so. Check your education levels.. you'll want to be at 120+ (ideally, 160+).. this takes time. Go to youtube; they have a bunch of nice tutorials on how to get skyscrapers without cheating.
  24. Grids make a city real?

China has many "old" cities with a grid-like city center (i.e. Beijing.) Then again, it's probably the most efficient method of achieving high population density.
  25. Bus stop question

If you use a 4x4 grid (like me), 1 bus and/or subway stop every other intersection should be plenty (assuming you're using the RTMT lots.) You may want to put stops at every intersection once that area upgrades to skyscrapers.
