*respectful expression of dissapointment*

Originally posted by: mentarman Originally posted by: Soviet779 Well no... we will know when its released, in a few weeks. Planet offer just ended and it really hasent been that long since cities XL's initial release so theres not been enough time to make any significant changes IMO. If cities XL actually came out in 2011 or close to the end of 2010 i would take it seriously but as it stands it seems like a cheap slap together to try and recoup some of the lost cash from the development of the original cities XL. quote> You haven't even seen it yet. No, I don't think it will be a whole new game but I don't think that's what's needed. I'm hoping it will be just a lot of good new features, things unlocked, etc. that will make this game what people wanted in the first place. Yes that may cost some extra $$$ over what was paid originally but that's life. Personally I would rather have this in the short term than the promise of a whole new game a year from now, which may or may not come to fruition. But then I am a fan of the game now so an improved version of it sounds great to me. Anyway, this is what people wanted, them to drop the PO and focus on soloplayer. Let's give them a chance. quote> Ive been a gamer for long enough to know what makes a difference and to turn this game into an actual city simulator with depth and some real simulation like what is in simcity 4 would take a lot more than a few weeks/months.

Originally posted by: Herdervriend Cities XL will fail, that is a fact. And nothing will stop it. Because simply, they ruined it for them selves. So this topic is actually useless, because nobody really cares anymore.quote> Yeah. no deep simulation = fail imo. The entire game would need a complete rewrite in order for me to buy it which wont happen.

I doubt cities XL 2011 will require cities XL, most "expansion packs" these days are stand alone games, its better for everyone that way as it dosent limit the developers potential market to people who already own the original game and it dosent force people to buy an outdated game they dont want/need they can pick what they want. Noone can say for certain what will happen but its logical to assume that cities xl 2011 will be released as a large patch for those with cities XL for free or with a discount at least. This is just what ive seen happen with other games such as UT2003/UT2004.

Awesome! About time they killed off that abomination of an "MMO". I hope they listen to what people want this time with cities XL 2011 instead of going for the pot o gold that is a successful MMO.

Originally posted by: soltangris Yeah, the casual gamer doesn't buy a game because it was on E3, he buys it because he saw an ad, or deal, or a review, or a friend told him it was good. As far as I know E3 is intended as a show off for future products that are near release. The gaming companies go there to brag, and the sites like Gamespy get to publish hands-on articles and impressions and all that. CXL doesn't really need all of this, it needs content improvements. There are a lot of people out there (including many of this community) that are aware of the game, are plan on buying it once it improves. MC knows that. And rightly they're not wasting time and money to attend the convention.quote> The casual gamer dosent buy city builders to begin with, which is why MC shouldve made a game with a hell of a lot more depth.

Interesting stuff OP, although i think SC4 is quite healthy after 6 years, sure its dying as theres no sign of a sequel or anything new but the games old, its had a good life.

Originally posted by: mrdazza_460 You make a good point Sainty Why do people think that, M C will not sell any more copies of the game than what they have now?, Why do people think that MC will not sell anymore PO subscription then what they have now? They seem to be using the number of subscription on what they have now and thinking the is the max they will every get. That might be true. But unless you can see the future you are only speculating, if you can see the future. Can you tell me the Oz lotto numbers for next week; I really won't a new Ferrari. quote> Most sales of a game are made in the first month, the trickle of sales afterwards dosent amount to much. Plus three other crippling factors: This is a PC game, Its a niche genre, Its not even a good game. All that just spells doom for cities XL.

Dear MC, I'd really like to keep control of my own keyboard!
Soviet779 replied to City Planner's topic in Cities XXL
Originally posted by: CWLGAMER01 Hi City Planner: Let me explain a little more..... I dont think it is that MC has "disabled" your keyboard but more likely they do not have a "key binding" for that particular thing...... I have not looked but perhaps you can go to the options menu and see if you can set the bindings yourself..... not certain if you can. But really its more about the way the program handle this function and not so much that they have purposly set - it up to do that. Thanks for posting!quote> Media keys arent bound in game, this is either a problem with an incompatability between cities XL and the OP's version of windows (he didnt mention what it was) or its with windows itsself. Sounds like the problem resides with cities XL though since it works in all other games. Sorry i cant be more help OP, maybe just use the dial/buttons on your speakers until a fix is out? Maybe mess with the compatability modes and cities XL to see if they change anything. -
Originally posted by: soltangris Commanderkai, you have definetily proven that you have a problem with communication. I think we all agreed already that it is exactly the communication that landed MC in the jam - they have failed to communicate that they're not making the successor of SC5. I (and others) keep stating it not only in my orriginal post, but also in the ensuing dialog. So.... you actually agree with me while hotheadedly disagreeing.... it's funny, really. Hoping that you'll spend more time in the future analising those posts that go deeper than pure expression of emotions, I conclude our dialog, and from now on I won't answer your posts anymore.quote> Even if cities XL wasent meant to be SC5 that still dosent change the fact that its a pretty lousy unfinished game. Its a game, its meant to be fun, its failed at that for the majority of people.

Originally posted by: AlemanXL It's been mentioned many times CitiesXL <> SC4. In fact they're not exactly the same genre, Simcity is exactly that, a city simulation, CitiesXL is a city builder, not a simulation. City Builders - Caesar 1- IV Pharoah (The best in my opinion, and very similar to CXL with megastructures added) Emperor:Rise of the middle kingdom Children of the Nile ANNO series etc. etc. City Simulators - SimCity series. Next Gen City Builder - CitiesXL Next Gen City Simulator - ??????????? Once you realise it's more akin to Pharoah for example, with set maps, and limited resources that need to be kept in balance, trading what is available for what you need, large structures to be built, and so on, and not a city Simulation, you can go on and enjoy the game for what it is, a really rather good city builder (has it's problems, but all games do). Much more game than simulation. Is this one of the causes of players expectations not being met? Many were expecting a simulator, and were given a builder instead.quote> So why arent there monte cristo reps on any of pharaoh, caesar or ANNO forums? Well thats because cities XL and simcity 4 are the same genre, one game is done right, the other wrong, simple as that. Backpeddling and claiming "its not meant to be like simcity 4" it was never meant to be like it just simply wont work, if that were remotely true then there wouldnt be monte cristo reps here on simtropolis, a forum mostly for simcity/the sims etc.

Thats just milking people for money since theyre already paying extra.quote> Yeah its a rip off, the whole pay monthly for a city builder in general isnt normal, i never thought i would say this about EA but they have the right idea with the sims franchise, just milking people for expansions. Thats fine, the sims 1, 2 and 3 at release have all been good games on their own with no added extras, theyre complete in most ways and generally build on their predecessor, this whole pay montly to build your city is BS. The real sad thing is when it all goes belly up those with cities on PO will lose them. Defeating the entire point of building them in the first place, sure its fun to build a city but you then save it once its built, to look at later, to show other people, to modify from time to time, for whatever reason noone builds a city and then deletes it upon completion which is what i think will happen with PO.

Looks like theyre desperately trying to recoup development costs or make a profit due to falling subscriber numbers and lower than expected sales.

Originally posted by: littlesquare.dot Originally posted by: Asheroo Admin from MC have said several times here within the past few weeks that they really do want to give single player the extra content by selling it off to us like with GEMs. But, for them, it's a matter of will it work or not in the market, will it succeed and time. quote> Yeah, we get it.. they're trying to figure-out how best to maximize profit. quote> More like how best to bleed us dry of any money they can get their hands on. Phase 2 of the monte cristo plan: Charge for individual buildings. Just wait and see!

Do you get the feeling that When you play CXL you can't go back to SC4?
Soviet779 replied to Aspire's topic in Cities XXL
No, i can easily play SC4, cities XL is just too basic and its got none of the awesome gameplay SC4 had. -
Nothing, ever. Thinking about it i would never ever build a city online, its something i created something thats mine something i want to look back on and mess around with from time to time when its finished, a piece of art. In contrast to other games where you create say a character online, the characters there to serve a specific purpose generally which is either to tear through the game real fast (PVE) or beat the hell out of other players (PVP) and if you want your character to be any good you better get it decent items which dictate how it looks. Its not a piece of art. Its maybe something you may like to go back and mess with from time to time but ultimately its just a tool, a means to an end. A city is nothing like that. I want my piece of art on my hard drive, to copy/delete/move/keep or do whatever i want with, i dont want any part of it to be tied to an online component of any sort, i dont want to lose it when MC goes bust or releases cities XL 2 and shuts down the original servers etc. Plus ive seen this BS happen before with other things, online music stores specifically, i never got ripped off by losing all my music when the activation servers or whatever shut down but i read about those who did, anyone who thinks a company will "take care" of their customers in the event of a server shutdown or whatever is very naive, you wont get to download your city etc, and even if you did its build upon multiplayer trade, how will that work in single player? The city will fail.

Originally posted by: soltangris Kittani, I understand your points, and I appreciate you trying to point out real concerns. I agree that the game was unfinished at release (maybe badly so, I still can't form a final opinion, since I haven't actually played it yet). But my point is, we don't know if there weren't ulterior circumstances that forced them to take this approach.... All I'm asking of the community is to wait couple of months and see how the game is developing, before delivering the heavy judgement. And what do you mean 5 planets? On the CXL page, under 'Community' they have listed 8 planets.... Maybe there's a catch I don't catch here Anyway, I don't see why they can't expand their servers later, if the demand rises. I think for now they're keeping it low for the same reason that you mentioned: they're waiting to see the results.quote> Cities XL had its chance and blew it, the game bombed, just accept it

It's come out, and every aspect has been revealed. The only thing left is custom content which should raise the score. quote> Well as more reviewers/people realise it sucks it will drop lower, critic metascore is now at 71, user reviews is at 4.6.
