Can we be build without the grid?quote> The picture says yes! I guess there's just massive grid because it's like a mini NYC styled city... Me too.quote> I see your point, but then why aren't there any "burbs" with non square lots? That's kind of a bad sign. Actually, I don't even see any rectangular lots. That's really bad.quote> I don't get this. Surely the picture says "no!"? What this image shows is that, yes, you can build curved or diagonal roads, but you cannot put buildings on them/building will ignore them. If you want buildings to grow, you need to make square grids. It's a shame, but to be honest I don't mind having grid cities that much. What bothers me is that they've tried to lie about it. After the let down that was Societies it makes you wonder if this is going to be all about the graphics and not at all about any kind of sophisticated gameplay engine (which is, after all, what would make the game worth playing). I suppose in order to get the buildings growing on non-grid roads you'd have to move the city organism away from a kind of block/lot-based model to one that grows organically out from the roads (like real cities do, or did, at least in Europe). Do away with the idea of a block and let the computer try to cram buildings into whatever space is available... maybe it's an idea for the sequel.
