Hmmmm............I can't seem to get to your city via the link you provided. Can you please post another one, or is my computer just messed up? -
I have medium city that's about 500,000, and I have a X shaped highway system that no one uses. If it was a square then it would be used more, but would take up more space. I think mass transit is better for intracity travel, but highways can provide the capacity to transport thousands of cars across city borders.

I'm confused. What do you need help with?
-
Stage 8 CO buildings will take thousands of jobs. Because your demand is fluctuating, you may just not have the demand for them.
-
I don't think a steam train shows up at all. Can anyone confirm this?

I don't believe it is a moddable thing (traffic noise on ONLY highways).

Quickest way to get large (100K+) population?
stryker1942 replied to Kam7's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Here are a few things that I do to get large populations. My current record is 700,000 for a medium city (I don't work with large cities very much). 1. Good mass transit system because of the commute time (sims can get to work in 2.5 hours or less) and to relieve road conjestion. 2. Zone industry (including high-tech) in a different city. If you really want to get fancy, have mass transit going there as well, and have a few busses so people can get off train/el rain/subway/glr and get to work without cars. Hole digger lots helps a lot with this. 3. Have commerce in a central location, so it's easy to access. Most of your sims will be employed here, so make sure it has good MT options. 4. Place enough parks. I tried it without parks, and I couldn't break the 150,000 sim barrier. With the addition of parks and recreation, I got 300,000 within one year. 5. Don't zone more high density zones just because you have demand (ESPECIALLY R$) because any high-density building will quickly eat away at the demand (if that makes any sense). In other words, force your sims to build up, and not out. 6. Provide good education and healthcare. Don't worry if you have a few hundred people over capacity (happens very late)-it doesn't really matter, and it is not worth it to build another school/hospital. I recommend getting a large-capacity hospital from the Exchange, though I don't have one. 7. Airports/seaports help increase commercial/industrial demand 8. If your CO$$$ and CO$$ is always negetive, that is to be expected. Especially for CO$$$, one building can add thousands of jobs, so you probably won't be seeing a huge CO$$$ demand until very late in your city. 9. Start by making a small city and experimenting with ideas. Though it can be difficult, you can get the basic idea down for how to pack 10 people in a house designed for 9. Hope that long-winded list helped. -
Is your city mostly R$? Because if it is, then the education will be low. It usually takes about 10-20 years to get from 40-130 EQ with every type of educational building for me, so wait because with the "standard" elementary schools and high schools, it will take a while for your EQ to rise. And by the way, I believe (this took me a while to figure out) that the red in the education data view shows the education level of the residents of certain areas, not the education coverage.

I HATE how the streets don't line up I dislike how the sims don't take mass transit I am marginally annoyed by the sims only wanting CS$ and hating CO$$$ for some reason in newer cities. I am very annoyed at how in UDI, when you have a siren on the cars will swerve off the road and INTO YOUR VEHICLE!!! Very annoying. I am dissapointed in the boringness (let's just say it's a word) of the Maxis buildings Was a vague enough for everyone on my varying degrees of annoyance?

I don't think it's possibly to have a flat side, but I could easily be wrong.

Thank you so much!!! These are very helpful. Sticky, anyone? -
Check the manual, it should tell you. It is propably because you don't have an advanced research center (which requires a university). And you CAN get the spaceport reward on easy (I've done it).

I believe it takes 10,000 (yes, ten thousand) years for radiation to degrade (or maybe just 1000). At any rate, it's there for a while. How did both powerplants explode? When you have a fire, the FIRST place you dispatch firefighters to should be powerplants.

I don't think so, but you could try it.

Do you have the links to any of them? All I've seen in the CJ section are 1-2 million.
