  1. Help with two Things

  2. I first playing Sim City 4 a few weeks ago. I used a simple grid system and for a while I was having fun. But the transportation network wasn't really well-planned and I had trouble adding a critical bridge because the opposing shoreline was in another city. So I started a new region, abandoning the grid system for a messier, more realistic look. I made my roads and rail lines twist and turn wherever I felt like it. Later I realized this was stupid, so I started again and went back to the grid system, making it a bit flexible with different grid sizes and establishing a far-reaching and efficient mass-transportation network. Then the game crashed when I tried to bulldoze my airport. The airport disappeared but was still there when I info-clicked on it and I couldn't build anything over it. The next time I tried loading the game it crashed to the desktop. I reinstalled the game, recreated my region, and now I am starting over with a rigid grid system and a massive public-transportation network. I have huge region that I would really like to fill up, if I can ever get past the first city!
  3. I have a growing city of about 100,000 people and they're clamoring for an airport. I want this city to be a major commercial center with a large population--as close to 1,000,000 people as I can get. Airports, especially international airports, take up a lot of space and cost a lot of money to maintain. Are they really that useful? If I put one in a neighboring suburb would it still benefit my main city?
  4. London region image

Yes, I did this--I altered the config file using Paint. I put the new config file in the London region folder, then opened the game, but the cities that I altered do not have any terrain on them--they are just flat green space. Meanwhile the cities that I did not alter still have the London terrain on them. So now the region as a whole is all messed up. Did I do something wrong?
  5. London region image

I like the London region that comes with the game. However I wanted to change the layout of the cities, so I altered the config file. Now I need to import the terrain image, but I can't find one for London. Can someone help?
  6. inter-regional mass transit

Thanks for the tips. Does anyone use monorail? Right now I have a short monorail line connecting my downtown to the airport. I put it in because I thought it would be cool to have one but I don't know what else to do with it.
  7. inter-regional mass transit

I already have a freeway system that radiates from my central city. In fact I think my transportation network on the whole is quite efficient. I am just wondering with all of the many different public transit options, which works best as far as other people's experience. Or maybe it really doesn't matter whether you use elevated rail, or subway, or monorail, or whatever. I am not using 2009 NAM yet but I plan on doing this soon.
  8. ^Well subways aren't minor in my transit network. The subway network in my central city is quite extensive.
  9. Is there any way to do this? It would be easier for to plan my mass transit network if I could see the subways in the regional view.
  10. In my region I've established a major city of about 350,000 people. My question is, what is the best mass transit option to connect this city with the surrounding suburbs? At first I used only rail and elevated rail, which seemed to work well. Then I replaced the elevated rail with subway, but I'm not getting the traffic I used to. Maybe subway isn't the best option to connect cities. And then there is monorail, which I haven't even used yet. Sometimes I feel like there are too many options.
  11. Show us your Most Scenic Areas!

    ^How did you do that?
  12. SC4 requirements

Hey guys, I am looking for a new PC and I want to make sure I can run SC4 on it without any problems. I read what the system requirements are but I was wondering if someone knows from experience what works (no slowdowns, crashes, etc.). From what I've read I need: 2.0GHz processor 4GB memory 512 MB graphics card Is that too much? I don't want more than I need. Any advice would be appreciated.
