Danza3343: The traffic isn't bad because I use a fair amount of mass transit, rail and bus, which helps the residential areas especially. Also, the commercial and industrial areas are dispersed so everybody is not trying to get to the same area at once.

Crashing Problems... As some of you may know, there are crashing issues with the game, especially with newer machines running dual core processors. I am one of the "lucky" ones. It has made updates difficult and I have been spending a lot of time trying to figure out what is going on and how to fix it. You can read about the problem in the thread located in the bug forum. Anyway, some much neglected correspondence: asturianu: Thanks for the reply and glad you like! GreekMan: Thank you. I want to add more open space though. patriots_1228: I use the "Z_Asphalt-Highway-Textures mod". pickled_pig: Thanks for stopping by. I'd like more of that feel downtown. Maybe another highway spur or something. jacqulina: As always, thanks for the encouragement. GMT: I changed that section of highway to another wall texture to see how it looks. Thanks. homeandawaypalmbeach: Hey, glad you like it. Come again. DanTso: Almost 250K. Mike the Mayor: A lot of trees help the effect.

About the Graphic Rules.sgr: Open it with an editor, search for this entry: "property noPartialBackingStoreCopies true" and change the "true" into "false". (without quotation marks!). Hope, this will help.quote> In addition to the above, I also set the priority to "High" as suggested by cameron1991. I have had one crash since doing all this, which was during a "save" and it crashed to the desktop. It must have something to do with the dual core processors because the game ran fine (if a bit slow) on my older machine with had a third the speed, half the ram and a forth the video speed of my new machine. I appreciate all the work you all have done as it has helped some. Hopefully we will eventually come up with a total fix for the problem. Dick Ps. How do you set the Virtual Memory" Thanks!

I spent some time on testing out, and now this will work fine at my PC: (Core2Duo E6400, Asus Mainboard with onboard sound, 2 GB RAM, Geforce 7600GT): I had defrag my my harddrive and set the virtual memory on 4GB on C:, I changed the "Graphics Rules.sgr" like the way on this site: http://simcity.ea.com/help/faq.php I run the game with just 1 Processor (open the Taskmanager after starting the game, rightclick on the SimCity entry and set it on single processor) Now my game will run fine with nearly 2 GB in the Plugin folder. Thank you, people!!quote> I have tried right-click in the Task Manager but did not see anything that clearly indicated "single processor". A little more detail on this would be helpful. Also on "Graphics Rules". Thanks!! Dick
  5. Testing Zoom Crash Issue

This is a very helpful thread and has helped eliminate some possible problem areas, but not all. I ran the game (SC4 with the RH update) on a 1.2g, 256m ram, 128m video machine and loaded any lot, bat, mod I wanted with no crashes. It got a little slow on larger cities but no crashes. Now I have a new machine: 4g, 1g ram, 512m video and it crashes continually. I've uninstalled the game and reinstalled a new version of Deluxe, removed all old regions, and started slowly adding stuff back into the plug-in folder. It seems as though certain buildings start the crashes, like NDEX Ballard Park for instance. I am inclined to agree the problem may be the dual core processor. I would like a more detailed explanation of how to go about changing the computers settings that some have referred to. The crashing sure takes away some of the enjoyment of the game. Thanks to all for the great work in troubleshooting this problem.

Replies: Schulmanater: A belated thanks for the post. In most US cities, the suburbs are more open which this is an attempt at emulating. As the city grows an size the inner core become more dense (at least in those communities that have taken steps to in some cases revitalize the core area), and this then spreads outward in time. Update 25: Downtown Port Royal's highrises glimmer in the night as cleaning crews and late workers go about their work. Banks, insurance and apartments make up most of the skyline, with a few general office buildings thrown in. The connector winds it's way through the south side past condo's and apartments.

Replies: jacqulina: Glad you like; I'm working on the zoo/park. Pickled_pig: Trying to give it a realistic look. KingTitan: Thanks for the kind words. I like it to be realistic. RushHourFreak: Thank you! Any suggestions will be welcome. Update 24: This view is of the western suburbs and the airport in the background, showing the new extended runway and terminal.

Man, I can almost smell the moss and decaying wood! I grew up in hills like that. We'd fill up a back pack and take off for 4 or 5 days when I was in high school. Thanks for the memories.

Replies: owenluby - Hey, thanks. I wanted this cj to be a little more spacious than my others. Nardo69 - I've thought about that and I am planning a transit line to the west and I'll try to do it without crossings. jacqulina - Thanks you. I need more green space along the harbor though. A nice park with a zoo? Cajh - Well howdy stranger, good to hear from you. The farms were there first and the city has grown out into them. I'm using the fields for new development and keeping the hedge rows as open space and buffers. GMT - It will be a few days maybe until the next update unless I get some time in between things. Thanks for the visit. Update 23: This is a quick one of the transportation map for part of the region.

Very nice work with the walkways in you "yuppie" area. Really pulls it together.
  11. Port Royal

Update 22: Replies jacqulina: Thanks for the kind words! A view of central Port Royall showing the spread of the city to the west and north. You can also see some results of the hedge-row policy of building on cleared land and leaving the wooded areas in between as open spaces. These next shots are of some small towns that make up part of the metro area. Although they are still mostly agricultural, you can see evidence of the regions growth beginning to show up.

Update 21: Replies: jacqulina: Thank you for your continued support friend. I like having farmland around a city as it adds realism to the scene. infinitum19: Thanks for stopping by Port Royal. luker91: I like the "warehouse look" also. Wish my bat skills allowed me to build some generic pieces that would include parking, truck bays, offices and JOBS. The west side of town has a new industrial park to serve the growing suburbs there. Some high-tech and distribution companies offer a variety of job opportunities. Meanwhile, the south side continues to add high density housing aimed at workers in the downtown financial district and the port area. A wide variety of income levels have been able to acquire apartments and condo's here.

Wow. That is such a beautiful setting. I would love to spend a few weeks there just walking through the woods and along the streams. It looks like Middle Earth might. Very nice job.

Update 20: Thanks for the input folks. I will be posting a larger update in a day or two. Replies: Schulmanator: Closeups coming. I'm off work for a couple of days so I should have time. jasperdeman.nl: I'll put up a trans map in tonight or tomorrow. The terrain is Cycledogg's: "Missouri Breaks Terrain Mod". Hawkeye9: Thanks. I was thinking how I wished I had some skills with the BAT to make some generic warehouses and as I was making a terminal for Port Royal it occurred to me the pieces could be used for other things. GreekMan: Hi. Yes it is. I have modified some of the hills into mountains though. Port Royal Polytech is located in the foothills across the bay and offers a wide variety of technology based degrees as well as technical training for local companies. Dorms sit above the campus and house about 70% of the undergraduate student body.

Update 19: A new regional view showing the extension of agricultural areas to the west, south and east of Port Royal. The Harbor Bridge has also been finished, completing the beltway around the city and connecting the various regional highways that intersect here.
  16. Port Royal

Thanks everyone for your comments. I apologize for the lack of replies. To GMT: Those warehouses are part of an airport pack for building terminals. I works pretty well for building these warehouses also, I think.
  17. Port Royal

Update 18: A quick regional view of Port Royal. As you can see I am in the process of changing the terrain theme. Current population: 124,000.
  18. Port Royal

Update 17: Because of it's proximity to the financial district and port, Port Royal's Southend is seeing a renaissance with condo's and offices springing up. Another catalyst has been the Westside connector which will run down the length of the peninsula and cross the bay just below the new Global Gateway. A 600 million dollar bridge is planned for the harbor crossing.
  19. Port Royal

Update 16: The new port area as it currently stands. Some commercial and residential development has occurred around the port as services move in. Ferry service is scheduled to begin soon to downtown Port Royal.
  20. Port Royal

    Update 15:
  21. Port Royal

Update 14: Some initial pictures of the Global Gateway under construction across the bay. When finished it will have over two dozen docks for the largest ships today and will contain five million square feet of warehouse
  22. Port Royal

Update 13: I've moved Port Royal's airport into the main city plot and scaled it down a bit to match the region's size better. This picture does not show the freeway extension and some commercial development near the airport but will give you an idea of it's location and scale.
  23. Port Royal

Update 12: Ever larger warehouses are sprouting up to handle the increasing port traffic. These, located in the Southport area are part of a large distribution park that will eventually contain over 3 million square feet of warehouse and manufacturing space.
  24. Port Royal

Update 11: Still having some crashing problems when I add plug-ins but slowly I am rebuilding my file. Anyway I've changed the regions terrain to the Missouri Breaks and changed the water to reflect how a river might look at it's mouth. I added some large warehouses at the port also.
