Diagnose My City (Should be called Two-Face)
stealingjoy replied to stealingjoy's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I use a ton of mass transit. Barely 5% use cars. I have lower density residential in the neighboring cities... there's no demand for it in the big city. I do know the basics. I think I figured it out, though. I was artificially stifling my high density growth because of not building enough parks and so lots of medium wealth buildings were being built and abandoned since the demand wasn't really there for it. That seems a little odd but once I add parked, my high wealth population and building population went up. It seems I just overproduced medium wealth (even though there is still demand, which I also find odd). Still, not sure why it would divide the city in half like that (which was basically what most confused me and was the point of the point... why half would be good and half bad if they're virtually identical). -

Okay, I'm looking for some help/advice/pointers here as to why my city is the way it is. As you can see, one half of my big city is looking quite healthy. Very few abandoned buildings. However the other half of the city is FULL of abandoned buildings. However, the city itself is practically identical from one side to the other. The adjacent cities to the north, west and east are also very similar to each other with relatively the same number of jobs and citizens (all the low wealth citizens are in the surrounding cities, while medium and high populate the main city). It's been like this since the very beginning (i'm at roughly 900k population in the big city at the moment). Each side has the same amount of amenities roughly (obviously the more populated side has more hospitals and schools). One time, I went and demolished every single abandoned city because I thought maybe there was a domino effect, but it went back to being the same way. $$$ Commercial (with some $$) is in a cross shape in the city with residential around it and a spot of industrial in each corner. There's heavy traffic throughout most of the region, as well. Can anyone help me figure out why this is happening? It's bugging the hell out of me. -
ISO Industrial demand cap relief

http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/561176/21501 That FAQ is fairly useful, especially because it has a lot of good lists that detail effects of various park and reward type buildings. That's where I got the information. -
When I built my 5.2 million city, on a whim, I decided to see how long it would take the bulldozer to destroy it. Let's just say I used the bathroom, made a sandwich and got a drink and when I got back, it still took about 30 seconds to finish up. Plus, whenever I was making something like a road that went wider than the screen and I used the mouse to scroll out, the lag would make the screen scroll way beyond what I wanted. It was a hassle. I have a GTX 8800 but it was still rough until I turned almost all the graphics all the way down. After that, I decided I prefer dealing with medium and smaller tiles.

ISO Industrial demand cap relief

Rewards could help you. Army Base would lift the I-M cap by 100k and that should be all you ever need. Radio station would raise it by 9k. I really don't know about Dirty Industry, though. -
My city, Haven 2.0, has 5.2 million residents. I didn't use extensive mods, only the pathfinding fix and some bug fixes (like the Opera House). It's a pretty ugly city because a lot of the buildings are depressed, but it was fun to do. Here's a video of my city and the "More Info" bit gives some more detail about the city. I also have a similar video of my previous attempt at a high population city. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIM2iWsrzOc Edit: The video was taken when I was at 4.9, but it's now up to 5.2 and pretty much dead growth wise.

Capacity and speeds for avenues and one way roads.
stealingjoy posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Does anyone know what the vanilla capacity is for avenues and one way roads? Pretty much all the information I've been able to find is either general (ie, avenues have more capacity than roads and less than highways, but not how much) or only gives values for non Rush Hour features. If anyone could point me in the right direction, that would be really helpful. I'm presently debating the value of avenues versus parallel one way roads and this would really help. Thanks!
