  3. You think youve seen the worst roads EVER? not untill I tell you about my nightmarish trips to school. i live 50 minutes' drive south of my school and 55%of it is on the road system i am about to describe. they say its the WORST highway on the continent -and probably the world, too! It's the stretch of I-84 between Hartford, CT and Waterbury, CT. the condition of the road is REVOLTING, as is the traffic. First of all, the road barely moves -even when it isn't rush hour! i think Westfarms Shopping Mall is one cause. it is directly next to I-84 in West Hartford. when the mall started attracting way too many customers for the freeway system to handle, the DOT didnt fix I-84 in any way. rather, they NARROWED IT and built New Britain Avenue, a 12- lane monster highway with stoplights at every intersection, even dirt roads! and, right after the mall entrance, the road, which was 12 lanes, merges to 2! Right next to the CLOSEST FREEWAY ONRAMP TO HARTFORD! not only that, but it is the only way to any highway! So we have a 2-lane road carrying as much traffic as a 12-lane highway Cause #2 of I-84's 'love-hate relationship' with commuters is that Hartford has at least 5,000 insurance companies - more than any oher city on earth! Cause #3 of the I-84 problem is the condition of the roadway. its curves are so tight that the speed limit on I-84 is 20 mph! the pot holes are even worse. it feels like an earthquake. as it goes into hartford it goes undreground and you cant see AT ALL! and you come out on who knows what highway going who knows where. NOW THAT is a bad road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
