Hi Guys, No ambient sound in game at the moment but hopefully they will add at a later date. I thought I had a technical issue with sound early on so reported it to the support desk. This is the response I got Cheers Dear Nick, first of all thanks for purchasing Cities XL. The issue you are encountering is not a technical one, the environement sounds have not yet been implemented in game. Feel free to come back to us for any other issue, doubt or simple remark you want to point out. The Cities XL team

I am slowly reducing my polluting industries to to the time where it only effects a certain distance, and not just the entire map. It would be helpful if we could see in figures approx how much air pollution each type of industry produces. Does anyone have any ideas which industries are worse at this?
-
did you ever discover if putting industry on hills makes a difference. Its just that for a long time I had pollution problems but i moved it to the far south, air pollution spread out from teh industries as you woudl expect. However, I have since started building on the highest point of the map and on checking my pollution again the ENTIRE map has the same pollution???

I think there are quite a few successful cities about. Blackdragon City is doing ok, 70+ M with 100+k cashflow. But there are others far better than that, plus I wouldnt want to live in mine at the moment, would be board, dying of flu while be held up at gunpoint outside by burning down appartment =)

Coney try rereading my post, I am not bashing the game just pointing out that they have highlighted ambient sounds when it has been well documented there are none. Its not hardware differences, slight bugs etc there are none, I have even got an official support request response email about this saying they are not currently in game. I have actually played CitiesXL every day since it has been released and am a PO subscriber and am glad I am, I am active on the community with journals etc So I dont bash. If you actually read my post the point of it is hoping that the reviewer actually has access to a client we do not yet. You make me laugh, you have posted 3 times so far on this forum and 2 of them have been criticising other peoples posts. Troll I think is the word.

There is a new review at IGN. I had to laugh when I got to the scores " 8.5 Sound Gentle music will put you in a relaxed mood, and all the ambient sounds are perfectly fitting within the game. " What ambient sounds??? lol I wander if they reviewed a client we dont have access too yet...Fingers crossed

Here are just a few of my thoughts on cities XL and would be interested to know what others think. Ultimately I hope one of the MC team will read this and thus get feedback from us with regards to the game. Its not intended as a bug list as there is another thread for this. I know this is just the beginning of CitiesXL, but I do hope that developement of at least of some fundamental features / services progresses quickly. In terms of an MMO launch was it a good one or a bad one? A bit of both I think. Good in terms that generally the servers have been up, but bad in terms of poor customer service and feedback, along with shocking performance issues. No offical forums or feedback from raised support requests is very disappointing and flies in the face of what MC should of learnt from other MMO's. Communication with the player base is key and in the early days they have done poorly here I think. But anyways I digress, onto the game. I think it has as a lot of potential and even in its current state has a lot of pulling power. I keep logging out complaining of the performance issues and unhappy at the lack of depth, control or feedback on why satisfaction is low and yes the lack of mass transportation is a real problem. With a city of 250k I find it impossible to keep traffic flowing freely even with multiple large avenues and specialised lanes. However, even with these complaints I find myself keep logging back in to try and improve things so its certainly addictive. My concern is how long will the addictiveness outweigh my frustrations? Only time will tell. MC's business model is heavily reliant on the player base going back for more. Right now MC are probably quite happy about how things are going. I think pre sales went quite well so there are a lot of people playing. However its my firm belief that for MC to be succesfull in the their aims of the PO then they need to satisfy the SC4 crowd. I have seen many posts saying we shouldnt compare SC4 to CitiesXL but ultimately I think the comparison is critical. Who do you think will pay for the PO in the long run, those players who like a simple "dumbed down" city builder or those of us who play SC4 many years after it was released. I do truely believe that the casual game player will go for solo play and are unlikely to take up a subscription. It will be down to us, the anal bunch who like to have control over every aspect of the city who are most likely to shell out the cash for the Planet Offer. At least thats my view of things.

airports and harbours are already in game under transportation intercity links. Harbours produce extra freight slots and boost the freight available close by (good for most industries), while airports boost passenger avaialbility for trading offices, worker types with other cities. The latter are also good at boosting buildings which benefit from passenger services like offices. Not sure if its PO only or also in solo though as I only play online.

Hi Alexz, The resolution 1680 x 1050 is available in game as thats the resolution I use so not sure what your issue could be. Do you have the proper drivers for the monitor or is it just generic, although shouldnt really make a difference if it works in other things. My set up is Vista 64, Intel Dual Core E8500, 8GB RAM, Nvidia GTX260 with driver 185.85 so perhaps its an ATI issue?

Unbelievable, I know and accept the launch of MMO's are generally quite turbellant but this is the first one I know which was released without sound effects. Dont MC know that high quality graphics is only half the equation, sound is just as vital. Well hopefully this is one of the things they will sort quickly after release. My only worry is if this was the same in beta and people have already fed it back then why still no change =(.

I get the same thing. Absolutely no sound other than the interface and the music, turn the music off done click anything and I might as well turn my speakers off. I thought this was odd. Even odder since I found a "Background Sound" option in the menu that seems to do bugger all. Does anyone else get this? What o/s you got rss334? I am on Vista 64
