  1. Kingdom of Cantabrica

Intro - I welcome everyone for sticking to my CJ so far, I apologize for not going into much on the first post, but I have been "cooking" some things for you to see. First off, let's just say that I will separate my CJ in parts (and these parts in Chapters). Once again, I urge you to visit the official Wiki-page of the Kingdom of Cantabrica, which is here: www.12colonies.net/wiki/index.php/Kingdom_of_Cantabrica This said, let's take a look at Chapter I. * * * The first picture is of the current official residence of His Most Faithful Majesty and his most noble family - the "Palácio da Vitória" or Palace of Victory in English. Perhaps from the outside, this palace is not as great as many other European Palaces (Palácio de Mafra in Portugal; Buckingham Palace in England; Palácio Real in Spain) but the special thing about this Palace is the gardens, which may rival with the gardens of the Palace of Versailles. We also have to face the historical fact - the construction of this palace was ordered after the Triple French Invasions (this information is not yet available on the Wiki, but keep checking until further updates). The French Generals and the British Allied Liberators of Cantabrica took as their Headquarters, the "Palácio Imperial" - Imperial Palace, which nowadays is a Museum/ Reception Residence. Some say this Palace was built, because the Imperial Palace caused repulse to the Cantabrican Royalty (because of the French/ British occupations). * * * Below is the Old Quarter - there are building which come from the XVIth century - incredible if I might add. Since 10 years ago, the Government has been spending a large sum to reabilitate this area and to help the proprietaries of these houses to repair any damage (either caused by human/ natural accident). * * * "Porta do Império" or Door of the Empire - in this location, it's said that the first King of Cantabrica declared victory over the Castillan armies back in 1230. It's said that King Felipe II of Habsburg of Spain and his armies entered through this gate, reclaiming the sovereignity of the Cantabrican throne in 1590. This gate was also used when Napoleon's French troops marched through León for the first time. * * * In this picture you can see a part of the magnificent Royal Gardens; and the Old Quarter, which is ruled by the powerful sight of the "Castelo de S. Jorge" - Castle of Saint George (typically, an influence left by British crusaders who named the castle and brought the tradition of venerating Saint George). In this picture you can also see the "Patriarcado de León" - Patriarchy of León which was a gift from the Pope, as well as the sobriquet used by the King (His Most Faithful) - as there are only three Patriarchies in the world (not counting León): Milan, Jerusalem and Lisbon; the "Palácio dos Correios" - translated as the Mail Palace. * * * * * * This is the Cathedral of Christ - Victorious King (Catedral de Cristo - Rei Vitorioso). Its construction endured for several years (almost one hundred years) as economic problems and not-as-freligious Kings got to the throne, being finally concluded in 1752 - as a promise made by the first Cantabrican King after the Restoration of Independence from the Iberian Union. This promise is consisted in three parts: the King crowned Our Lady of Imaculate Conception as Queen of Cantabrica (that's why the Kings of Cantabrica are no longer crowned, but invested/ announced as Kings); the construction of a house of worship; in exchange, God had to maintain the independence of Cantabrica from any foreign power. Until today, that promise never failed). * * * * * * The beautiful Gare do Norte, which was designed by French architects - the French influence is obviously notable. * * * * * * * * * The Pantheon of the Herédin - where the physical part of the human matter rest in peace, protected from the outter world. In this Pantheon are buried several nobles, which belonged to the House of Herédin (including Braganzas (Portugal); Savoys (Italy); Orleáns (France); Bourbóns (Spain); and even Hollenzollerns (Germany)). * * * The ministry of Defence takes its HQ in this pentagonal building. Represented in the flags is also the Royal Pavillion, to remember that the King occupies the formal place of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. * * * * * * The "Praça do Império" or Plaza of the Empire is the central place, and occupied by four ministries - top left, Economy; top right, Finances; bottom left, Healthcare; bottom right, Social Services. * * * And now, the Teaser for Chapter II - which shows the location of the Imperial Palace. The Imperial Palace is nowadays used as a Museum/ Place to host State-dinners and balls in honor of an important guest. It's also used to cast the Knighthood of the most important Chivalry Order of Cantabrica (which is composed by a limit of 50 Knights).
  2. Genevra Redux (v2.0) [SCJU Full Member]

Loved everything - the mosaic is simply gorgeous. And the magazine, took me some time to read (as I'm a slow reader) but at the end I really loved all articles within it (specially the one Cantabrica is mentioned ). Obviously the Kingdom of Cantabrica pursues its objective to strengthen its alliances (and specially with Genevra as it is one of its oldest allies).
  3. Ahhh! That palace is beautiful belfastuniguy! I just love your work. Hope to see another update soon mate. Almost forgot - the area of the Arch of Triumph is also magnificent!

  5. Kingdom of Cantabrica

Introduction Welcome to my City Journal - the Kingdom of Cantabrica. I've played Sim City 4 almost since its release, but only began interacting with the online community one year ago (I believe). Anyways, for the starters, my nickname is avatarolas (lame nickname), but everyone knows me as David, so feel free to adress me as David - I'm 19 years old, and as many might understand from my CJ, I am in fact Portuguese. I live in Lisbon, and you can say I love my city - even if its old and badly treated. I love Portugal, and it saddens me when people do not recognize its true valor - as the country which gave "new worlds to the world" by discovering half of the globe in the XVth century. I also love to read (especially Disney comic books ; historic romances; fantastic/ adventure books (example: Harry Potter or Eragon); I love to hang out with friends when I get the chance to (time is not something that favors me); I also love to hear music - especially if it is Queen or Freddie Mercury, but I also hear to Michael Bublë; Ray Charles; Diana Krall; Frank Sinatra; Classic music; Mariza (which is a Fado singer) - so I guess I'm very picky about music. I love to spend my vacations on the south of Portugal (not Algarve, which I hate, but Alentejo). It makes me go into a "meditation-like" status . I love Star Wars, and I guess you can find me on other computer games - such as World of Warcraft; Warhammer: Online (my favorite by far); Eve: Online; Deus: Ex and some Steam games - but sadly, as I'm always saying, I don't have the time I'd like to have to try out those games fully. I'm a bit shy and very distracted. It's really awful when people ask you things and you've just forgotten about them . I also love History, Politics, Portuguese Literature. I know how to speak Portuguese, English, French (believe me, you don't want me to speak French as it is horrible - to my High-School teacher, I killed the French language) and Castillan (which everyone calls Spanish). The personal introduction made, let's go to my CJ introduction - basically it's a young CJ, compared to many others, but I keep building it as imagination comes. The Kingdom of Cantabrica occupies the northern part of the Kingdom of Spain (regions of Cantabria; Astúrias; Galicia and a part of Castilla y León that I needed to support the history of my CJ). Why I chose this exact location, you might ask? - I visited Galicia, for about one week, when I was a kid. That place marked me so much, that I can say it is the best place for me, on Earth (until now). I'll fill you in about several other details down below - hope you enjoy it; also hope you have a good time checking on my CJ, as I'll be developing as much as I can (imagination is hard to come sometimes, as well as the will to play the game) and updating this CJ as regularly as time and private life allows me to (obviously I won't put the game above my personal life). The introductions made, let's get to the details.
