Sorry for posting on a fairly old thread, but I'm running SC4 just fine with: Core 2 Quad 2.66Ghz processor 4GB RAM Nvidia Geforce 9800GX2 (1G) So I don't think you should have any problems with being too high. The processor maybe a bit weak if your talking about a single core.

I hate how people are already saying the city-building genre is dead. Just because you have a few years of bad games doesn't mean the genre's dead (like that 3 year period of nothing but Medal of Honor ). And what's all this about Simcity never recovering? Apparently most people think its a pathetic game. Simcity 5 (the real one) is already scheduled and that is made along the same lines as Simcity 1-4 and by the same developer (I think). Don't write off the genre just yet!

I'd be interested in knowing what causes it to, because it tortured me for years until I bought a new card.

Note that this tutorial is how I've created many of my larger cities. It may not be the best, as I'm definately not the best Simcity player here. If your afraid of micromanagement, the below would be how I'd create a city in one tile. 1. Pick a region and terraform. 2. Create power plant, if a polluter, it should be towards the side or corner of the map. 3. Around the power plant, you should create medium density industry. 4. When you first start the game, you don't need a highway or mass transit, but it usually helps to plan ahead at this point. I usually start with a simple A-B-A rail-line. 5. Zone residential about half way across the map from the industry. I say halfway because that allows people to get to work quickly and they don't get the full brunt of the pollution. 6. Zone commercial between the residential and industrial areas. 7. Provide an elementary school in the core of your residential area. If your budget is good, you might also want to start a 1/4 funded hospital, and increase as your city grows. Make sure your not putting to much money into your services. 8. Do some U-Drive-Its or try to get some awards. Commercial growth has always been important to me, but I've been told it isn't as important as providing industrial jobs. 9. If your going for realism, keep to low density residential until a reasonable population. 50,000-100,000 is what I usually wait for. If your not, I would zone higher as soon as possible. If you are fine with a little bit of tile-flipping... 1. Make a coal power plant in one tile. Surround it with high-density industry. 2. Create power lines and a surplus of transit options. Sims don't travel quickly between tiles. 3. In the region without the plant, make the residential and commercial as close to the jobs as possible. You would probably want to create the residential right up against the tile edge, and the commercial on the other side to avoid congestion. 4. Since your only paying for 1000Mwtz of power from your polluting tile, you should be able to afford schools and a medical clinic unless you want to go with a hospital.

I've been having CtDs for a long time no. They were usually triggered by zooming out. When I first got the game I was running a Pentium 4 3.06Ghz with 1.00GB and an Nvidia 5700. I experienced this crash every hour to hour and a half. Recently I bought a new card, an Nvidia 7600, and it started crashing every 20-60 minutes. I tried reinstalling on both cards without and plugins installed, and the problems didn't let up or cease. So, there probably is some credibility to assuming it has to do with draw speed.

BAT - Troubleshooting & General Discussion
therealcdg replied to Jasoncw's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
I apologize if this has been asked before, but what exactly is a Code 6 error in the BAT? I got to the end of the first render and then it gave me the error. If anyone knows how to fix this or how to prevent it would be much appreciated. Thanks. -
Why not to build a toxic waste dump: Pretty bad I know...

Tromel City.... A new beginning starts here.

Those are huge! Did you BAT those yourself? It looks like you have a gift for creating large cities. It is a bit repetitive though... -

Wow these are great! I can't really get into France. It just isn't modern enough for me, but thanks for the incredible pictures. I hadn't heard of any of these cities.

I used to build like 30 nuke power plants and blow away my whole city. The radiation usually cleared up after about 60 game years, but I think the desirability remains 0 for a lot longer.

Don't forget Tulsa, Oklahoma.

A really great small town SCD. I've never been able to create realistic rural downtowns because of some mad rush I have to zone everything medium density. PS: Change the title to "Why therealcdg is leet"

I downloaded Gmax, but it keeps installing Fraps in an endless loop until I stop it. O_O Any idea what the problem could be?
-
Great work so far! I'm looking forward to seeing the new downtown.

Looking good! The boatyard area is particularly nice. 8/10

From what I've observed it seems like higher end graphics cards tend to make SC4 crash more often. It seems to have something to do with prop draw speed.
-
Is it happening mostly during zooming? I've found that higher-end graphics cards tend to draw things so fast that SC crashes because it can't keep up.

How I reduce "crash to desktop" errors.
therealcdg replied to raildigga666's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
I've been having the same problem! I'm glad to hear it doesn't have something to do with something hidden deep within the electrons of my CPU. -
Thats great! The curving road really adds realism. PS: How did you get those trees?
