Hello, Im searching the *thing* than would allow the buildings I downloaded here to shine in the night as the other does. I know than it is available on the official simcity site, and I tried to register there in order to get it. I needed to register my game in order to get it but here come my problem: Years ago, I received this game as a gift and I know it was brought as an (already used version? don't know the correct word in English but it seems than a guy returned it to a store when he could get a good part of his money back). It seems than he registered on the site as my CD key is 'already used' and I can't download the stuff on the official site. Could a kind person help me to solve my problem? Is there an alternative download somewhere?

Introduction Hello and welcome into my 2nd CJ. I hope you will forgive the failure of my first CJ wich was simply too embitious. This one will feature a completly different region, with a medium-sized city. It will be inspirated by the region of Saxony in Germany, and its capital Dresden. I visited those places in May during a travel and I loved them. However, remember that this will be only inspirated by those real-life locations. Even if some real names and some buildings may apear, this CJ will take place in a completly different world, where history went very differently. Please also forget the 'historical' backgroud. I am studying in this domain and thus it was an inspiration for the setting of this CJ. If you are really not interested into reading the 'historical' part, the most important things to understand is that this CJ will feature the capital of an independent country in Germany. Also note that I'm not a German, so if some German names are not perfectly spellend don't take it bad. ___________________________________________________________ Prologue- a different world This world as you will soon discover is very different from the one you know. The industrial revolution is only 100 years old, and thus many aspects of the society may apear as more 'primitive'- there is no nuclear energy, nor solar or anything like that. Highways are very rare and only the largest metropolis of this world have enough cars to justify such a luxury. Civilian aviation still have to take wings, airplanes are still considerated as dangerous and peoples mostly rely on Zepplin-style airships. The architecture is also more 'old-looking' and skyscrapers are an innovation. Politically, the world is also very different. Europe is still filled with monarchies and constitutionalism is only begining to gain power. Germany, the region that interests us the most in this story is divided into hundreds of small kingdom, duchies, archduchies, counties, bishoprics, principalities and free cities. All this mess being federated into an institution called the 'Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation', wich, despite its pompous name, is not Holy, nor Roman or Imperial. The title of Emperor is mostly honorific and is granted by a group of 6 'Electors', rulers of the most powerfull states within the Empire. A map of the Empire by 2008. The electors (from right to left) are: The Kingdom of Burgundy (dark red) The Electorate of Palatinate (teal) The Kingdom of Bavaria (light blue) The Duchy of Saxony (green) The Margraviate of Brandenburg (grey) The Kingdom of Bohemia (brown) The flag of the Duchy of Saxony In July the newly proclaimed Emperor, wich was duke of Saxony, died. As the power pass to his son, the Duchy of Saxony is about to double his size via a very complicated network of alliances and dynastic unions. As the size and power of the Duchy is growing its capital, Dresden, will have to deal wth its increasing importance. This will be the main point of this CJ- to carefuly plan the grow of the old city by preserving its historical districts. Dresden The old capital of the Duchy was founded in the early 1200's. In 1485, it became the seat of the dukes and electors of Saxony. Famous trough the entire continent for his exceptional art collection, the city is build in a Baroque/Neoclassical/Renaissance/Medieval mix. The Medieval and Rennaisance buildings are mostly grouped in the 'old town' while Neoclassical and Baroque are dominating the 'new town'. A typical street of Dresden The largest building in the city is by far the Ducal Palace. The Neoclassical structure was build in the late 1700's and remodeled in 1838. Less impressive than the palaces in Paris, Bruxelles, Venice or Warsaw, it is still once of the finest residence in Germany and is the home of the Duke.

First Embassies open in Dresden! The two first foreign embassies for non-German countries were inaugurated a few days ago in Dresden. They occupy old buildings instead of new constructions, mostly because embassies are more efficient when placed in a central location and most of the buildings of the area are protected by laws (historical structures). The first one: Manhilton's embassy occupies a neoclassical building constructed on the eve of the 20th century. Despite is austerity, the embassy have a special feature very enjoyed by all its employees: a large inner park. Its main entrance is on the short Rügenstrasse, but its western wall is right next to the famous Ringstrasse. The Elbe river passes right behind the embassy. --- The New Burgundian embassy is located on the very wide and very prestigious Unter den Eichen avenue, wich leads directly to the Palace. The New Burgundian embassador and its employees were granted the 2/3 of the beautiful building, while the western part is occupied by costly appartments. The embassy shares a nice inner park with its neighbors (wich is, however, for security reasons, heavily guarded.)

Thanks everyone for the positive comments! Currently still busy/little time but I still make a small update to keep the rythm.

Simfan34: as soon as I'll have the time for it, I'll build something. Don't expect a vast modern building however, Dresden is still small. Schulmanator: Thank you sir! anarchy0029: Well, I don't know if its amazing or not. However I know that the new districts will have similar designs. Simtastico: I think a region view would be rather deceiving... for now. I only have Dresden build, wich occupy a large city tile. The rest of the 'city' is filled with farmlands, rivers, forests and smaller towns. jacqulina: Thank you. -- Two things I'd like to know: 1. is there a mod/plugin/whatever that improve the diagonal streets? I'd love to have pavement instead of all those little grass triangles. 2. What about the 'leagues' or 'unions' of cities/countries? What are their aims? Can Saxony enter one of thoses? I am new here, don't know much.

As you can see, I have finished the city as it should looks like today. But soon, thanks to its newly increased political influence (you need to read the history part and the newspapers to understand), Dresden will grow. And it will begin to interact with other capitals if possible, and open foreign embassies on its soil. Even if its a bit a cliché, if you want your nation to have a building in this city just ask.

Update 2: Urban history of Dresden As explained above, Dresden can be divided in two main districts- the 'new' and 'old' cities. The Old City is very typical of many other old towns from all across Europe- a dense district that was once limited by walls. The fortifications of Dresden were destroyed in the 1880's, as a part of the Great Works of Baron and urbanist von Brücke. Instead, a large, vast and circular avenue was constructed. The 'Ringstraße' (ring street) , as it was called, is still one of the main street today. Von Brücke's Great Works also included the organization of the anarchically growing 'Oststadt' (east city), a suburb located eastward of the city fortifications. 5 large avenues were drawn, all of them meeting at the Säsische Platz (Saxon Place), just in front of the Ducal Palace. The newly inaugurated 'New City' was filled with important official buildings replacing the obsolete ones. An aerial picture of Dresden, or the Saxon capital entirely revealed (You have no ideas how complicated it was for me to make this horizontal mosaic) Main Points of interest: 1- Frauenkirche (Church of our Lady) 2- Semperoper (Semper Opera) 3- Friedrich-Wilhelm Bridge 4- Ringstrasse 5- Financial district (an eyesore if you ask me) 6- Dresdner Kommerzbörse (Trade Stock Exchange of Dresden) Not indicated by numers on the map: Elbepark- that green area near the towers, but beyond the river Buildings in the new city- refer to the map below: A close-up of the 'New Town' Buildings: 1- Parliament of Saxony 2- Staatsoper (state opera) 3- National Library/National Archives 4- Ministry of Defense 5- Ministry of Healt (south wing)/Ministry of Education (North Wing) 6- Ministry of Commerce, Industry & Devellopement 7- Ministry of Justice 8- Ducal Palace 9- Friedrichsäule (Frederic Colonum) Road & Places: 10- Kurfürstendamm (Avenue of the Elector, refers to the title of the Duke) 11- Wagner Strasse (Wagner Street, refers to a great musical compositor) 12- Unter den Eichen (Under the Oaks Avenue, refers to oaks both sides of it) 13- Parkstrasse (Park Street, refers to the park at the end of it) 14- Bautzner Strasse (old main street, leading to the city of Bautzen) 15- Sächsische Plaz (Saxon Place)

Repplies Mayorm: Glad you like it! Making it is fun, but its even better when I know its enjoyed. penguin007: You'll see more very soon. jacqulina: Thanks.. zelgadis: I did my best for it to look German, altrough I have only been in Germany for 5 days in my life. Rictiovarus: You are right. But with the buildings I have and the current raod layout (diagonal streets tend to waste more space = more room between buildings) I could not do much better. I'll try to improve it. Simfan34: Thank you! _____ I'm currently busy, I'll move into a new home tomorrow so I don't know if I'll be able to update regularly in the following days. Thanks for understanding.

Never posted in the two previous, but this one is as beautiful as the other ones were. This nature is wonderfull. However, don't you think it looks a bit too much like the others?.. I mean, yes, those falls, forest, lakes, rivers, are amazing. But I am sure you have other talents. (I hope nobody takes this bad, this is a friendly note). An hiden city filled with greenery and gardens, with paved streets and trees everywhere would be in your style I think. But hey, if you really love working with landscapes, continue as if I never posted this. Its simple suggestion.

Simtastico: Thanks! Indeed I find there is potential in this kind of CJ. I hope you will continue to enjoy this one. Smarty218: Thank you very much. SirUnger: I visited Dresden in may and I really loved it. However, there is not enough Dresden buildings to recreate the real city, it would be so awesome to have the Semperoper and the Zwinger.. I am using your 'Saxony' region map by the way. ________________________________________________________________

Beautiful city! Its European-styled districts are very inspirating for my CJ. I'd be very happy if Saxony could have an embassy in this country.

Update 1: the different faces of Dresden Every old city have alot to tell trough its architecture. Every era gave a little something, ultimatly resulting in the mix of style that the Saxon capital is. But this 'mix' is far from being chaotic- the city is divided in two districts, the 'Old Town', wich include everything located within what was once the fortifications of the city, and the 'New Town', wich is located east of the old city. You can't find many neoclassical structures inside the Old Town, and medieval buildings outside it are very rare. This way, even with its architectural diversity Dresden managed to keep a form of unity of styles. Old Town The Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady), was build in the 1750's and is still today the most recognizable landmark of the city. Its baroque dome dominate the entire old town. On the other side of the Elbe river spread the best-preserved parts of the old town. Even if many buildings were rebuild later, most of them were constructed during the 1400's and the early 1500's Two buildings are dominating this district: the old university (the big building with the green roof), wich is now a museum, and the St-Martin church. The church was finished in 1250, and is the oldest building of the city. The St-Martin is also often called 'Dresdner Dom' (Cathedral of Dresden) because it was the only church in the city for almost three centuries. It is still the place where the dukes of Saxony are coronated. A closer view of St-Martin's tower New Town The National Parliament of Saxony. The building was constructed in the 1880's as a part of the large construction project that gave the new town its actual look. The construction of the new town begined in the 1860's when it became obvious that the room within the old fortifications was not enough. 4 large avenues were drawn, all of them meeting in front of the Ducal Palce (A map and a better overview of the geography of the city will be posted in the next update). This ended up with a much less crowded city, with wide avenues and lot of parks. A street of the New Town. In the lower left corner, the begining of the Friedrich-Wilhelm bridge.

*Need a fancy repply banner* Repplies Mayorm: It was even worse in the 1500's, but yes the political map of this region is very complex. Za: Thank you. zelgadis: I hope it will. spore415: Thank you! I plan to study German soon so I just wanted to begin to familiarize with this language. Schulmanator: Thank you! Yes indeed I am trying to make different from the usuall skyscraper forest. panthersimcity4: Then I hope you'll enjoy the next updates. TV-VCR: I'm glad it look German, I put hours of research into various sites to find the best-looking stuff from this region. However I passed by that road mod without noticing it, thanks for pointing me out its installed now.

More pictures of the city will be posted later. A big thanks to zelgadis wich very kindly accepted to make the flag an in-game object. _________

Hello and welcome to my first CJ! First I would like to take a few lines to introduce myself because I am quite new to those forums. Simcity was the first real computer game I really loved, and I just rediscovered the joy of playing SC4 after having found this site. Simtropolis made me dig in my pile of CDs and re-install this special game that I had previously not seized all the potential. All the downloadable stuff here simply bring this game to a new life. I hesitated a long time before starting this CJ, probably because all the cities on this forum are so beautiful that my creations are very pale in comparaisons. I know that it will not be the best city ever but I hope it worth a visit. I also apologize in advance for my mediocre English, it is not my language. Enough of this now. Before going to the city I'd like to point out that this is going to be a sci-fi CJ. Be warned. However you probably already considerated this before clicking on a CJ called 'Terra 4016' made by a total stranger. ------- Welcome to Terra! I don't think this city have to be presented- because you already know it. Basically, Terra is YOUR city. You have probably already understood that this city/planet is no less than our planet in a distant future, in a world where hundreds of other planets are colonized by an embitious mankind. Your main questions are now probably: 'What happened during thoses 2008 (!) years?' and 'How Earth is looking two millenias after I am reading thoses lines?'. The answer to the first question will be revealed in due time. Thoses 2008 years were very rich in history, and it would not be good to tell it all in one piece. Details of it will be told later, but it is possible to speak about the major events without spoiling anything.... The Man was probably the first intelligent animal to live on Earth. Evolving from the apes, it took millions of year before it reached its intellectual maturity. Millenias ago it invented writing and it was the beginig of a new era for the whole Mankind. Slowly but surely its technical knowledge evoluted. By 1800 the man has already explorated much of the planet. A drastic change was operated in those crucial years. The Industrial Revolution in England was determinating in the evolution of the mankind. In a century, the world passed from an agricultural-dominated society to an industrial one. Technologies improved faster and faster with the opening of new infrastructure such as the railroads wich improved the communications between the different cultures. Every year it seemed that the planet was becoming smaller and smaller as the population was growing. In the large and prosperous cities room quickly became rare and thus the mankind begined to build vertically. Soon the largest metropolis of this world were easily reconizable trough their characteristic skylines. But the population was still growing and space becoming even more rare. Cities were conquering land over wilderness. Towers were builded higher and higher. But a day the situation became critical as the world was begining to starve due to the lack of farmlands. Too few forests were left to regenerate the poluted air. Too litle water was left for the thirsty mankind. In the less favored countries the situation became truly disasterous with millions of refugees attempting to cross the borders by force. Cities and nations were ravaged by civil wars. This situation has to end. In the latest years of the 22th century an international emergency meeting was organizated*. The idea of colonizing new worlds to solve the problems of the world was adopted, even if it meant that the last resources of the planet were to be eaten by this desesperate project. The project, however, was a success. The world was once again free from overcrowding- for a time. As centuries passed the Earth became the center of a vast empire including hundreds of colonized planet. Its population reached new peaks, but with the new technologies discovered a visionary system of weather-control was builded all over the planet. Mountains were cut down to make room to further constructions. Sea level diminished but this tendency was stoped in time by, again, the discovery of a method to fabricate water from nothing. And thus Mother-Earth - or Terra, as it was now officially called - became a continet-spawning city, an ecumenopolis, covering more than the 2/3 of the planet. This answer the 2nd question. This is the only small picture I am posting from my city. Because its far from being even half finished, and because I want to keep some surprises for later. --- *This part of the timeline is similar to the one of Shadow_prophet's excellent CJ, but its so far in both time and space that I didnt bothered to ask him about it. Contact me if it cause a problem, I can change it if needed,

I can't blame the very friendly Simtropolis site and all its users for what happened with this CJ. Blame me. Its all my fault. Real life and healt problems empeached me to continue this and to update it regulary. I was probably too embitious for a fist try. I progressivly lost interest in it because it was thingking about other things. One thing is sure I failed. I promised to deliver something grand. I constructed something very interesting that I unfortunatly didnt updated because of the said problems. But in an hope of being forgiven, and to prove that all my huge city wasn't just empty words, I'll post here the best pictures of it that I reserved for later updates I never had the time to do.
-
Excuse me, where did you found those futuristic buildings for your city of Coraphal (page 2)? I'd like to have similar for my own CJ.
-
Sorry for the lack of answers, I have been rather busy thoses days. I have worked hard on my city however, I have almost completed the 'University' district I was having a few problems with. An update wil probably come tomorrow.

Totaly awesome! What a mighty base! And a mighty city overall by the way, your skyscraper forest probably beats mine.

Terra 4016 AD *Today's update is only going to be pictures from various locations around the planet, there will be no history. I am simply going to give an overview. ---- Being a planetary size planet doesnt mean that all of the world is covered with huge skyscrapers. Some regions have higher density than others, somes are more rich, somes have more problems. Overall there is some diversity, and exemples of different urban landscapes are going to be introduced today. ---- The Leggen Park This is the very popular Leggen Park. Centuries ago it was simply a part of the beautiful North-South Axis that was linking the most prestigious buildings of the official district of Terra. Now half of this 'axis' is covered with buildings, as less fortunate governments failed to impose urbanism laws over embitious constructors. Some areas of greenery were isolated and are now considerated as 'parks', such as the Leggen park named after a brilland scientist. The large monoliths in the parks are gifts from the various colonies of Earth, but many of them are now completly independent now. As you can see on the left of this picture many of those monuments were removed, to be replaced by new construction projects. What remain of the North-South Axis is now protected by strict laws. ---- The verticality of the city is stunning, but often we tend to forget that the inhabited regions also spread underground. Much of the underground complex is used as warehouses or industrial facilities. But sometimes, underground buildings are revealed, creating 'urban canyons' Underground structures revealed --- After most of the planet was covered by buildings the authorities started to loose control over their populations. Sometimes, new devlopements turned out to be completly anarchics and were not covered by any transportation network or services such as garbage disposal. Slums apeared. A slum ---- The exact population of Terra is unknown, as the last census took aproximatly 5 years to be finished, and by this time the gathered datas were already useless. But one thing is sure, the demand for food and water is incredible, and the planet can't survive without importantions from other worlds. The exports of 5 agricultural planets are entrely turned toward the Earth, wich is barely sufficient. About 1/4 of the builded regions of the planet are used to store and build all the goods needed by the insane number of inhabitants. Even if most of the industrial sector is automated millions of peoples are still employed in it. An industrial sector ---- Far away from the slums and the industrial disctricts, the elite of the planet is living in tall skyscrapers kilometers over the noisy gound level. The most famous sights of the planet are concentrated in a relativly small sized region far in the north. The partial (accidentaly and naturally caused) switch of Earth's axis of rotation made the region once know as the geographical North Pole one of the most friendly of the planet, and hosted the most impressive structures ever build by the mankind. Near of the most dense sector fo the planet A region view from the industrial-to-highly-dense trensition

Wow I was not expecting so many positive comments! With all the big names that posted here, I will have to do my best to not deceive anybody. nihonkaranws: Thank you very much! SimHoTToDDy: Thank you to, beleive me I am doing lot of efforts to write this in my best English. The other surprises are still in construction but I hope you will like today's update. deathtopumpkins: This will be a bit limited by the Sim City engine (no flying cars, even if it would have been awesome), but I did my best to turn this into a futuristic city. Schulmanator: Thank you. There will be an update today . *Please note everyone that I have other things in my life, I will try to update every 1-2-3 days if its possible. zelgadis: I will have to look about this league... however from what I have readed my CJ need to survive the first month, wich is still to be done. torontotransit: Type 'Coruscant' on the STEX and you will find somes. However my favorites are from a Japanese site I can't remember, I would like to give you the link but I can't find it again. Rictiovarus: Thank you! jacqulina: Thank you very much. You will probably find this CJ to be the exact opposite of yours- a city covering everytihing and almost no natural landscape. However I have plans to change that. IDS2: Thank you and welcome aboard! Patricius Maximus: Indeed alot can happen, all this will be revealed later. underwearman2007: The sea level is lower in this future, you will see it on the map I will post soon. A bit of the history of the 'near' future will be revealed later, but this as the title indicate happens mostly two millenias later. lucky7: Thank you for having took the time to post all this. To tell you the truth my header was made with paint + a picture found on google. I don't have photoshop and I am poor in graphic skills. You guessed right, Coruscant is my inspiration. Since the first time I saw it this city fascinated me! You will also see about the animals and plants of the planet, what happened to them is already all tough. Update comming *soon*, this is relative however it takes me time to write in a decent English.

Simtropolis Help Squad & Member of the Month: Article Requests & Information
Garant replied to Simtropolis Help Squad's topic in Simtropolis Related
Hello, hum.. I don't know if its the good place to ask those questions but I am new to this site and need help. Since I don't find the 'start new thread' option (maybe I just don't have enough posts?), I'll ask my questions here. Im sorry if they seems newbish. 1. Repplies- I only found a 'Quick Reply' option that offer me little options, where is the real 'repply button' located? 2. Pictures- I posted a picture in a 'quick reply' and it didnt apeared when I posted it. It was within the size limits, and uploaded with Imageshack. Does it have to be uploaded via another image uploader (ex: photobucket?) or does Simtropolis have a special feature that allow me to directly put pictures? Thanks in advance to the one who asnwer, and sorry again if its the wrong place to ask.
