  1. Trail's Roughdrafts and Doodles

Howdy. Well, it's been a little over a week without any updates or replies and yes I'm very sorry about that. Was going to post something before thanksgiving but unfortunately time flew and I had to enjoy my holiday lol. Anyway, hope ya'll stuffed yourselves to death with food and had a good thanksgiving heh. Ferrariguy1000: Why thank you. I started texturing some parts of the model. I still need to tweak it and test it a bit. Scipio: I respect that. Nevertheless, I'm assuming that elevators plus the core of the building will take up a lot of space. So, there will be just enough amount of space per floor but the height should compensate for the lack of space. Jasoncw: Actually they are around four meters apart or 3.5 meters to be precise excluding 0.5 meters from the floors' thickness. The thick outer skeleton structure or the blades and the slight offset with each turn are probably causing that illusion. But yes I see what you mean now that you mention it. For the glass material, I applied fresnel and did a test render. I don't know why but the colors bleed in some parts of the render especially, where the brightness is the strongest. I have a feeling that it's caused by the transparency mask but I'll take a look at it. Now, before I go, here's an update for ya'll folks. Enjoy.
  2. Hey, how's it goin'? This is where I'll post roughdrafts and doodles of my projects. "Critiquing" are always welcome. Currently In Progress: Project XXIII ---------------------------------------------- Influence: Chicago Spire (Santiago Calatrava), Egyptian Things left to do: Finishing the base* Finishing the top Adding Textures Refining Textures Adding nightmaps Adding additional lights *A work in progress... Well, that's all for now, folks. Any ideas and/or criticism will be greatly appreciated. Have a great night.

Wowa I'll be dozing off through the second solution lol. The first solution worked like a charm. Thanks SimFox.
  4. 3ds Max - Troubleshooting & General Discussion

I've ran into a problem. The logarithmic and other several exposure controls are gone! I only have three in the drop-down box: Automatic, mr Photographic, and Pseudo Color. And, whenever I try to export something I get an error that DLtonerep.dlu is missing but it's right there inside the stdplugs folder. What could possibly be wrong?

therealcdg: Code 6 basically means that your comp lacks the RAM/CPU scope to render your specific model. To work around this problem, you can scale your model down or export it in sections and merge them back together. Edit: Assigning more virtual memory may also work. In the mean time, does anyone know how to export a model in sections and merge them back together for the lot? I've been wondering that myself for a long time. Any help would be appreciated.

Perhaps, someone already asked this before, but here it goes. How do you let self-illuminated windows only light up at nighttime?

fukuda: Blah. I think I'm too lazy to look further lol I can't find it. Can you send that rig over please? Thanks. And, btw, those "desalter, pipeline control valves and deaerator" looks darn good. bigskelding: Perhaps, you can add some big windows to give it a sense of space and add some solar panels and HVACs on the roof if you haven't already. That early render looks good. I don't have any textures but I think a mixture of creme white wall paintings and brick textures would look good. And, maybe you can ease that rectangular feel by adding some curves to your shapes or placing one of the sections diagonally. However, if you like it that way you can scrap that previous sentence. Just my thoughts.

fukuda: The only camlightrig that worked was "TB2_CameraLightRigHuge.gmax" but now I can't see the shadows. Is that normal? I don't know the final height of the spire (the design is still being finalized) but currently it's about 960m. jayo: I appreciate your help though.
  9. BATs Currently in Progress

ngeeves: Ok. I tried reseting the LODs but it didn't work so I just deleted it and replaced it with the huge camera rig and the render looks good now. Anyways, I think fixing the nightlights is going to take me a long a$$ time because I would have to rename all the individual windows. :S patriots_1228: Actually, it's not the real thing but, you could say that it's a spire inspired by the spire. Lookin' mean there fukuda. What's that supposed to be?

Apparently, there is a rendering issue and I don't know how to fix it (nightlights are lit in the day renderer and there is that offending diagonal strike through which leaves everything above that line brighter with no shadows). I'm using self-illumination for the nightlights btw. Is that the wrong way to do it? Edit: Switched the image from png to jpg.
