Monte Cristo, are you kidding me!! I’m blown away. They have something here!
I’ve played all of the Maxis SimCities games., and have been waiting for a couple of years for another. The Maxis/Electronic Arts clearly left Sim City in the dust and has been pursuing the SIMS for the past several years. As far s I‘ve read, the Sim City franchise is dead, as The Sims brings in more money. Lets hold Maxis here for a moment…………………………………
….Monty Cristo, game publisher has pretty much pushed poop out, forever, until now. They clearly put Cities XL together with the developer supremely well for a Low budget game producer.
I have to say I’m very impressed with the game play and presentation of Cities XL. Is it Sim City, “no”, they would get sued. But it’s very similar in that SimCity folks can pick it up and start enjoying it, but with a learning curve. Again, they can’t duplicate Sim City for legal reasons, but the game does amazingly well with the SimCity concept.
I do feel that Monty Cristo has the opportunity to step up into the big leagues with this tile if they support it, and build on it. They can defiantly build on this game and become the new “City Simulation” king if they chose to. The game foundation is that good.
So, Monty Cristo, are you going to stay a budget game publisher, or step up and take City simulation to the next level where Maxis bailed.
Time will tell.
PS. I don’t particularly agree with the online fees to get the rest of the game, ie.. trains, subways, etc, but if paying this company a few dollars per month will make them expand on this game, I’ll do it. Again, Maxis bailed, and this company definitely has something her to take over the City building genre.
