How to change RCI attributes on an existing functional item?
naftixe posted a topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
How do I change the attributes of a BAT or LOT from C to R? Which program do I need? The BAT/LOT is already in existance from another BATTER/LOTTER. I only want to modify certain items for my personal use and have no experience in doing so. I would like to convert some high rise commercial to residential use. If I am posting in the wrong area, then I appologize. If this has been covered in another thread, please redirect me. Thanks -
How to change RCI attributes on an existing functional item?
naftixe replied to naftixe's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Thanks for the reply. Lot of work involved, and I do have a greater appreciation for BATTERs and LOTTERs. I will look more into it, but don't expect my attempts to show up here in STEX. I am not as talented as some here. BUT THANKS! -
I am looking for a 1 by whatever long tile of a simple warehouse to put at the head of the pier. I am not looking for the building that goes out into the water. But I am looking for a park.landmark/eyecandy version of this building that stretches in front of the entance of these three piers. I would like it to be broken into sections so I can get transportation through the building to get onto the pier. Confused? Hope not, here is a picture link. Thanks, let me know what you think, I am pretty much open on this. I am kinda hoping for a building to look very like this, maybe a archway for roads to go through. http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&FORM=LMLTCC&cp=q8zpdv4t0b76&style=b&lvl=1&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=13249038&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&ss=yp.north%20beach%20pier~pg.1~sst.0&encType=1

I have found by redragging the one-way road through the bus stop tile will fix it. Sorry, CaptCity already said this. Sorry for the duplicate advice

little advice on cutting air pollution
naftixe replied to kronus101's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I, too have used the god-mode trees for reducing poluution and it has helped in the beginnings of the city. But as dirty industry demand goes up, nothing will help until you discourage dirty industry, through a combined effort of taxes and reducing demand for dirty industry. You have to increase your demand for High Tech. Then once your demand for high tech surpasses your dirty demand, start demoshing your dirty industries. Of course, please be known that my advise and experience comes from NOT using pollution reduction "cheats" available in the STEX. I have very little to almost no pollution in my cities by using the methods that I have put into this thread. -
Welcome to Simtropolis! Three issues: 1. sims like cars. 2. sims will use the quickest shortest in distance route to get to and from work and it will be the same both way. 3. sims will not use mass transit until their commute times are shorter using the mass transit and demand (traffic jams) push them to.

Looking for a long but narrow building. Let's say 1 tile by 5 to 8 tiles long, with a lower profile maybe. Try to re-create a long warehouse type building. Anybody got any ideas? Thanks

Highways - Hard row to hoe!
naftixe replied to Connor MacLeod's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
First of Welcome to Simtropolis and Sim City 4. Now please don't take offense, but did you read the game manual? It is highly recommended that you read the game manual, AND go through the tutorial portion of the game. These will explain many issues and help you in learning the basic game mechanics. To answer your question, highways are a draggable item, just hold down the left mouse button on where you want them to start and drag them while holding the mouse button until your end point. Also in your manual, it tells how to rotate pieces. Experiment with the following keys: shift, ctrl, alt, del, end (but not all at once). These keys are valuable assests in building your city. Good luck and welcome here. -
Good job so far! I guess this will be the place to put my 100th post, in my ancestral home

Keep it up, can't wait to see how you solve those problem areas. Good Luck!

Also, the style of the city will depend on yours world area that you are recreating. For example, European, Asian, and your ancient cities, say at least 300 years old will not have highways in the central/old part of the city. Meanwhile, North Amercian cities and modern planned cities say 100 - 300 years old, may have highways in the central part. You can also look at planned cities like Washington DC, and Brasillia, Brazil these two are purely master planned before the city was built. DC was built from reclaimed swamp in the 19th century and Brasillia was carved from the jungle in the 20th century. Try this link for more research http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Planned_cities

I belive this topic should be moved to the off-topic area. Just my opinion.

I could never get "the big dig" to work correctly, had a problem with road/subway transitions, could only get one of two to connect properly. In SC4 you can get short tile spaces in the orignal tunnels of sc4, but even these can be a hassle. Sometines I will just, result to viaduct/canal type highways, alot easier for the UDI to function. Just my thoughts. Good luck!

I have played the orignal nation-states since its inception. I understand where you are coming from. I have also played SC4 since its inception and the inception of all Sim City products 2000, 3000 and 4. Some folks here will probally want to know more on what their "reward" would entail.

I understand that you don't want to build any more islands. But here goes my suggestions anyways. I have experimented with this issue and have found only two options to get a bridge built. Option 1: Use the "set sea level 200" method/cheat, to build a EL highway connected both city tiles. PRO: actual "road" connection. CON: No water traffic under the fake "bridge" and it is just barely over the top of the water, making it look a little rough. Option 2: Build a 20 to 30 meter rise on your main island for a bridge anchor. Build a two by two same height island at the edge of the city tile. Connect the road/highway from the real island to mini one (try not to use the EL Highway, it looks bad, the ground highway looks better). Then use concrete tiles to decorate the mini-island bridge anchor and the bridge anchor on your real island, if needed use the concrete or sandstone tiles that are walkways, these you can put under the water. PRO: Everything works including water traffic. IT also looks realistic because you have these large looking pilon thing holding up your bridge. CON: A little difficult to get it looking right, but with practice, it looks pretty good. I don't have a picture but I will try to get one and post it.

Excellent building! Nice for you to consider releasing this with different options, .

Fort Martin County, Florida - A Tropical CJ
naftixe replied to mnmsimmer's topic in SC4 City Journals
Nice, lived and grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Vero Beach, and Tampa -
I usually, start the town with the core founding blocks. Then I work outward as the city grows. I also start off with low-end zoning. Then as the city spreads, I start the zone up the core as i work outwards. In the back of my mind, I keep a plan for future highway and public trans development. Large modern items i do not put in until the city grows to a point, in which in real life that city would actually use that item. I just let the city naturally build itself.

I am interested in any advice on how to build better diagonal neighborhoods & blocks. Any pictures here would be appreciated. STEX has a very limited amount of diagonal made items. I think a list here would be appropriate for other players whom are having the same issues or interest in diagonal content. Transportation is pretty well covered. Residental Low wealth is pretty well covered also, but we can talk about it too. Mainly looking for w2w ideas on diagonal and Residential High.

How big are city tiles in SC4??
naftixe replied to antaryjczyk's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
My math used for conversions (Not 100% accurate but close enough for SC4 conversions to within 1 lot): 1 Lot = 15.625 meters = 51.25 Feet = ~0.01 Miles 64 Lots = 1000 meters = 3280.50 Feet = ~0.60 Miles 128 Lots = 2000 meters = 6561.25 Feet = ~1.25 Miles 256 Lots = 4000 meters = 13122.50 Feet = ~2.50 Miles -
little advice on cutting air pollution
naftixe replied to kronus101's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Probally the number 1 culprit is Industry. Your industry may be grouped together a tight overdeveloped area. Try spacing out your industry, improve education, taxing your dirty industry at a high rate, add more park elements. Most pollution problems can be dealt with "natural" means, before "radical" ones like total pollution eliminations available in the STEX. Use a combination approach to the problem, health, education, transportation, spacing out pollutting buildings first, then try some lower end STEX items to help. -
Is your SC4 a "naked" original or do you have mods & STEX items? If so what are they. And are the troubled buildings maxis or downloaded lots.
