How right you are you are. Sometimes it's better just to jump in and deal with problems then to try and get around them. This game can be glitchy with too many downloads anyways.

I know right SC4 can be very addicting. Welcome back!

Just by looking at the photo, Nonny Moose is right. You don't have enough Sims to fulfill the job requirements for all your CO towers. I used to think that having all the no job zots meant that the game is broken, then after tons of trial and error they are a good indicator for an imbalanced job market. You can have too many Sims and to few jobs. Or you can also have to few Sims and too many of kinds of certain jobs. If you have a high demand for commercial service type jobs, it really helps to fulfill that demand as well. If can you design your city around a balanced workforce, you'll have a happy city.

Hello, I've been off for a few years and am coming back to join. I'm a Simcity purist which means that I don't put up with the Simcity 2013. I'm deeply disappointed with the new Simcity to the point I've been boycotting all new EA games released since 2013. For me Simcity 4 is here to stay.

Well if you feel the need to blow up your city, there's always those handy disasters ready at your disposal. You could always plop a Nuke Plant and set on fire. However you choose. On the other hand you could tough it out! Skyscrapers don't really start happening until your population is big enough to support them. You also needs tons of parks and plazas to raise desirability. Also an important note. If you have large swaths of commercial zoning, when the time is right you can dezone those, turn them into residential and zone high density your downtown area. But again you need a large enough population to do this. And make sure they are edgamacated.

Thank You all for your kind welcome! Disagree!!! OMGGGG O noeees. lol You will find that I am disagreable.... ehem ya. But hey, I can say that I've played it and still have it installed on my PC. You are right, without mods the game is crap. I'm mostly poking at the creators not the game itself. I just wish that the game didn't require so many mods to be more playable/fun. I feel that it should have been released with more baseline features. Like offiline mode perhaps?

Population reduction mod? Tired of 4 bedroom houses with 14 occupants.
Andersen replied to Infrastructurist's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
A 4 bedroom house could theoretically house 14 people if they're using bunk beds. -
Yeah, those colors are normal when creating a custom region like that. Just don't reconsile your borders until you have the other regions loaded too.

Hello new Simcity person. I've been playing Simcity since the first one. I've been playing my game off steam with no hiccups. A good thing about steam is you can take pictures using steam and store them. Personally, I think steam is OK with the DRM issue.

Hi everyone, I haven't been on here for months. Largely due to my ADHD gaming habits. lol Anyways, I am back playing Simcity 4 again, and once again I can't put the game once I get started. There is something about the mechanics of the game that just keeps me hooked. Don't get me wrong, I think the new Simcity has potential, it's just many of the features that were promised are still not available and I am still a little angry about the launch. I am also upset that the city plots are so small! I mean common seriously I feel like I'm playing a 3d version of Sim Town not Sim City. I'm just being real practical here lol. I like playing Simcity 4 because it's difficult, it's a sandbox, I can do whatever I please with the terrain, I can create rivers and oceans. It is my creation. I guess I just prefer to have full control over my city/region and not have it be so limited. Also, Simcity 4 looks more professional as a city building game and well thought out. Anyways hello again. I hope to stay connected to some of the people on here.

Simcity 4 vs New Simcity: Why I came back
Andersen replied to Andersen's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Ok, so I want to touch something that I think is really important, here it goes. Something I've felt. I am verily disappointed that Maxis, took it's own prized franchise name "Simcity" and used it when there efforts didn't match up with expectations. Sure the developers worked and had a lot of fun doing it, but at the end of the day the product ultimately failed in almost all categories across the board. The new "Simcity" is not a Simcity at all, it is a modified version of Simcity societies. If they wanted a product that matched the quality that SC4 has given, the makers should have given some deep thought on what Simcity is suppose to portray. A city with complexity, lots going on, elaborate road networks etc. Again, I want to stress that they used "Simcity" in vain! Deep down, Will Wright must be sick that his own creation is being trampled on like a person at rock concert... If that makes any sense lol. It is a complete waste, an absolute complete waste of money, marketing and time for what they have done. -
Simcity 4 vs New Simcity: Why I came back
Andersen replied to Andersen's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I feel like I got suckered into buying the new Sim City. Little did I realize the disaster that would become of the Simcity servers. EA did a great job advertising for a product that didn't do 100% of what they promised. Sometimes I wonder if Maxis would have been better off going out of business. I sure wish Will Wright kept the company. If he was leading the Simcity team, I'm the sure the game would have been a lot different. At least I still got my SC4. -

It seems that the default job sizes for the CS are unrealistically small and causes you to plop massive fields of CS all over the place. I see no problem in using the job doubler.

I wanted to share a little tid bit on an experiment I did. I recently worked on medium sized city where I had all my dirty & manufacturing industry on the edges of the map. I had all my R&C in the middle. So what happened? Everytime a R$$$ popped up it immediately went black lol. So what I did was raise the taxes ultra high on R$$$, and left the others alone. I managed to get some high density CO$$ buildings up. It was bad place to live let me just say that lol.
-
I'm not sure if your industry placement is the problem it could be, or you be just zoning high density hap hazardously. From my experience I have my city core be high density and suburbs low density and have my Dirty Industries somewhere out in the boonies where the pollution can't hurt anything. Try to strategize your city planning so that your traffic and pollution can be managed easier. Unless you just want a R$$ town, that is possible even with really bad pollution. R$$$ on the other hand you gotta cater to their pet peeves. I hope this helps ><

Simcity 4 vs New Simcity: Why I came back
Andersen replied to Andersen's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Lol, I know there is so much on here, it would take me a lifetime to get it show in one city Thank you sir! NAM is the best thing that has ever happened to Simcity. Right now I working on a region with no addons, to see how much I remember playing. I got lots of brown buildings lol. -
I've already decided to not buy the new Simcity. When it comes out, I will look the other way, because EA has ignored the voices of so many notable contributors Simcity 4. The makers of the new simcity are fools. Their game will fail and they will deserve every bit of negative outcome.

Been working on this for a few weeks.

I think the way maxis introduced water treatment was way to expensive. I remember in sc2k that they were cheaper and almost all zones required clean water early on. For a small tile filled of DI requires about 3 Water treatment plants to keep the water clean.
