  1. Switzerland

So this is my first city journal ever, and I've decided to do a re-creation Switzerland. I've made a 16x12 size region, and I'm starting in the northwest corner in the country with the French-speaking area. I'm currently working on the town of Delémont. I may upload the map of Switzerland I made to the STEX, but really can't figure it out. It is made roughly to scale. I'll post a regional photo once I vegetate the region. Here is a photo of Switzerland from wikipedia. As you can see, Delemont is located in the northwest: Languages spoken in Switzerland: Swiss flag: And now on to the city of Delémont! Current population: ~21,000 farms to the SW: northwestern farms and village: south of downtown: French shopping district downtown: historic downtown area with Tower of Delemont: northern downtown: east of downtown: northeastern area with fire landing strip, garbage areas and jail: southeastern farms and French estate: And finally an overview of the whole city: I'm tired, so I'm going to bed. I hope you guys enjoy!

Ik houd van uw stadstijdschrift! I studied in Maastricht so I know a little Dutch...how does my Dutch sound?
  3. New York City

Hi, I'm new to Cities XL. Is there any way you can link your cities up into a region, similar to SC4?
  4. Switzerland

Hello all...I know it has been quite some time since I was here. My life has been extremely busy over the last year and a half or so, and I haven't had time to create any cities. As my last post on April 22, 2009 noted, I had to uninstall SC4 and lost Switzerland in the process. I'm just realizing now how truly tragic it is. I spent so much time building the region, and now all of that is wasted. I regret, to the highest degree, the disappearance of my region. At least, though, here I have a tribute to the region and I can look at these photos and reminisce about how much fun I had building the region. I recently returned from my first trip to Switzerland, and it was fun to see the actual towns that I had created on SC4. I thought that overall I didn't do too bad of a job, except that I needed fewer highrises in my SC4 region. I just graduated from college and I'm unemployed. Of course I would love to have a job, however it does free up time for me to perhaps reinstall SC4 and create a new fantasy region. Thank you to everyone who supported me while I was building Switzerland and gave insightful commentary. I hope to hear from everyone soon.
  5. Switzerland

I'd just like to make a final post regarding my region, Switzerland. I had to uninstall SC4 the other day and delete my cities b/c my computer had literally run out of room. I'm in the Netherlands right now, and I hadn't played SC4 once since I'd arrived in January. It seemed like other people's interest in my region was waning and for me it just wasn't fun anymore b/c almost all of my Swiss cities just seemed like repeats with little character. FWIW I created some awesome waterfalls in my last city, Thun. It's a shame I never was able to upload pics of them. Maybe I'll be back in the future with another city, but probably not until I get back to America in June. I hope you all enjoyed it while it lasted.

@drsn: Thanks! I know they're not totally accurate (especially with the amount of high-rises), but I've tried to make them at least accurate in population. I downloaded most of the Euro-style townhouses from Andreas, I think on SC4 devotion, but maybe from here too. My Euro-farms are by kwakelaar, and I believe those are from SC4 devotion. I don't know of an overall Euro set that you could download, but it would be awesome if there was! @newyorkrunaway1: Thanks! Last night I figured out how to make waterfalls, and boy do they look sweet!!! I spent about 3 hours building 2 waterfalls in my new city, Thun. Hopefully I will have you an update in 1-2 weeks. I'll have a teaser coming out before then though!
  7. Emerald Falls created by jacqulina

Jacqulina your waterfalls are excellent! Could you tell me what you used for them, or maybe point me in the direction of a waterfall tutorial? Thanks!
  8. Switzerland

@Todd: Thanks so much? Guys I'm trying to create beautiful waterfalls...anyone know how or could reference me to a tutorial?
  9. Switzerland

@knarfmo: Thanks! @SirUnger: I appreciate the kind words sir! Check higher up for the closeups...there's lots of em! Do you guys know where I can find a tutorial on creating waterfalls? Thanks!

Awesome job...you've already captured the spirit of SF!

bump...check the Bern updates and region views!
  12. Switzerland

@jacqulina: Thank you! @SirUnger: Your wish is my command...see the updates below. @Vegetarian-Dracula: Thanks! My farms are definitely my specialty. I also think I did the best job I've done yet on wealthy suburbs...I believe they turned out very nicely! Here are some regional updates: Regional shot w/out city names: With city names: Transportation map: Enjoy!
  13. Switzerland

Sorry it's been such a long time since my last update guys...I've been incredibly busy recently. But here it finally is... Bern Population: 240,000 I tried to do a fairly accurate representation of Bern, but unfortunately there are many high-rises that I know aren't in the actual city. I think I did a pretty good job on the government district though, and I hope you enjoy regardless. Here's a good overview of the city: A decent view of the central government district with the capital of Switzerland, parliament, and the executive house: The beautiful cathedral in Bern: Other central Bern shots: University district: Bern International Airport: outer town areas: Wealthy suburbs: Farming around Bern: Hope you enjoyed!
  14. Switzerland

@jacqulina: Thanks as always! @seahawkfan121: They will hopefully come soon...in the meantime, check out my pics from other cities! @xVINCENTx: Thank you sir, that is my specialty! There are some farm pics in previous posts, but I will have a substantial amount in my Bern overview, coming soon. @rusty_777: I appreciate the compliments. I've tried to make at least the aerials as realistic as possible. The towns themselves are semi-realistic, but I've taken a creative role in bolstering city populations to appropriate densities by adding skyscrapers that aren't part of the real city. @PhilsCafe: Thank you, that's what I was aiming for. It's really hard to do this around some of the smaller cities. @Schulmanator: Thanks! Here is a teaser shot from Bern. I will hopefully have a full update within the next 2 weeks.
  15. Switzerland

@fabsies55: Thanks! Yeah I know I need more custom content...only using the Euro set really limits your building diversity. @roboo1: I appreciate it...that's what I was going for! @xV.I.N.C.E.N.T.x: Thanks for all the kind words! I appreciate you adding me to your favorites! That pic is also one of my favorites...comparing me to LOTR is an honor! Here is a quick teaser/update: I've been working on Bern for a while now. I've built most of the farms that surround the city, and now I've moved on to developing the core. Enjoy!

Wow, your landscapes look beautiful! Great job! O, and thanks for adding my CJ to your bottom line!
  17. Switzerland

@Tia-May: Thanks, what is the tastyzots command? @jacqulina: Thanks again! @penguin007: Thanks as always good sir! @PhilsCafe: I appreciate the kind words. Sorry I haven't had an update in a while...I've been incredibly busy with school and stuff. Right now I'm working on infrastructure for Bern. I hope the final product will blow your collective minds!

  19. Switzerland

@Maraus: Thanks! And now, finally an update... BASEL Population: ~280,000 Firstly, some broad overviews: I created Basel based on the actual city. I know everything is not totally accurate, but I couldn't help but add some creative detailing. Something you may notice is the large amount of skyscrapers. I couldn't help but go hog wild in this area. I was tired of having repeating low-rises everywhere. The blue 20 story skyscraper is really getting on my nerves, as it pops up everywhere! I tried my best with everything though and I'm sure you will enjoy. Southeastern overview, surrounded by farms and small towns: Northeast: Northwest: Southwest: Now that you have a broad overview, we will go into some detail. First we come to the main train station. It has 10,000 daily passengers. Here is part of the financial district surrounding the train station: I know Basel doesn't have a baseball team, but here is the major league stadium anyway. It is used mainly for concerts, cricket, and can be converted to a covered indoor area. The university and research park areas near the main train station: More of the financial district near the station: A broad downtown view: Large park in northwestern Basel: The east side of downtown: Entering the north part of downtown across the Rhine River: This is where the government has many offices: Basel FC plays on the north side, while a smaller minor team plays on the south: Minor league park on the south bank: One of the many historical sections of Basel lies east on the north bank of the Rhine: Another historic area on the south bank of the Rhine: Some hi-tech industry in Basel: Basel International Airport serves 100,000 people daily: A main highway interchange south of Basel: The country club in the suburban area: Some more suburban areas leading to rural areas: A farming estate east of Basel: A look at one of the many farming areas surrounding the city of Basel: Hope you enjoyed! Comments are appreciated!

@roboo1: Thanks! I'm developing each tile as I go, so you probably won't see it without the terraformer colors until I'm done. Yes, I do think you'll see landscapes very similar to what I've created. My cities so far have been somewhat similar, but the landscape was customized extremely accurately. I think it will be hard for people to find things wrong with the geography. I used Google Earth to help me get an accurate idea of how Switzerland is laid out. @jacqulina: Thanks! Sorry I have been away for so long. I spent the majority of July traveling to LA, Seattle, DC, and New Jersey. I've been back for about a week and done alot of work. Basel is essentially completed except for a few final touches. Here are a couple of teaser shots. I hope you enjoy! Regional teaser: Basel teaser (population 280,000): Enjoy!
  21. New York City

Nice photos, you really have done a great job.
  22. Switzerland

@panosdr: Hi panos, I don't know how to upload my city, so currently, the answer is no. But if I learn how to upload my region will certainly be online. @Twenty20: Thanks, that was my goal! @Fresh Prince of Wmbg: Thanks, good luck in your cities! @penguin007: Thanks, stay tuned for more!
  23. Switzerland

@jacqulina: Thanks! Here's a teaser to tide you over until my next real update. I'm working very intensely on Basel right now, which is in the upper center of the region photo. I've completed the farms surrounding the city, now on to the task of really building Basel up! Basel currently has a population of 32,500, but I expect the final number to be over 200,000. Enjoy!
  24. Switzerland

@unassigned: I might have to try that. @penguin007: Alright, thanks! @jjune4991: Thanks a bunch!
