Tearing up large tracks of land and city for massive projects, fun?

What I usually do is plan all types of roads and transportation first and place trees where they will be. When I'm ready to build them I tear down the trees and build the highway/road/rails etc. This way there is no remove houses and business. When I do have to remove something I have a policy of replacing what ever was removed nearby and if it effects roads/rails I reroute them to the new location.
