  1. The Great Civ 5 Discussion

When I'm not building my cities in SC4 then I am building them in Civ4/BTS with the Legends of Revolution mod. Unlike SC4 I am destroying neighboring enemy cities, too. These two games are the best examples of what the modding community can do to extend the life of a game.
  2. Essential Mods

I realize that you are asking just about modds but I wanted to add these utilities for recommendation, specially when you are about to go down the modds, bats, and lots tunnel. Startup Manager - To help you manage the loading of your plugins. Awesome for customizing different regions and or cities. Thank you JeanLuc and Andreas! The DIC - To help you manage and organize your downloads - and there will be PLENTY! This is an amazing piece of a tool. I can't thank DocRorlach, Dave and team enough for it. SC4 DAT Packer by Wounagaine. Use this along with the DIC to help efficiently load your plugins into the game. This can be used separately from the DIC but the DIC does and excellent job of incorporating this tool. When you use this with The DIC you won't have to manually pull folder from their respective location. The DIC will do that for you. You will need to register at the LEX to get this. The DAMN Menu by Daeley and the SSP Tool to help manage it. The DAMN is great for reducing the amount of items you have in your in-game menu. The SSP Tool helps with creation and management of the DAMN. The link above will take you Simpeg who have a really nice article on how to use it. There are others out there but these SC4 utilities definitely makes my experience with SC4 a lot smoother and lets me concentrate on building my cities. Thanks to all the authors for these tools!! And thank you to all you modders for keeping this game alive!! Anyone seen the Moose??? LOL...
  3. Mass-Transit

One thing to keep in mind with RTMT. When plopping bus or subways stops on OWR (one way roads) it will change the direction of the traffic. You will need to go back and fix it. Its a pain but there isnt a fix at the moment. This could be a problem if you are using a mod that removes the one way arrow since it will not indicate that it has been change. There was a bug with the NAM and GLR stations where touching the GLR station, with the tracks, while laying down tracks (or was it vice-versa) crashed the game. I think the fix was an upgrade in those GLR stations. IRC, this was the case with the Tonkso GLR station. RMTM and NAM are a must have for me. Enjoy!
  4. I hear you By "default" I always lay down Avenues instead of roads but even those get congested over time. What else is there I can use to alleviate congestion? I've lots of mass transportation (bus stops, trains etcetera) set so people can just opt for it instead of driving their own cars... well may be the traffic then is caused by too much buses LOL! But still, what can I upgrade avenues into, highways? LOL! I use a lot of OWR (one-way roads).
  5. Please HELPE me.

Someone will always buy something for less than you do. That is the way it works. I'm sure there is something else that you bought that is cheaper than what someone else may have paid for.
  6. Please HELPE me.

You can find it at Walmart for $20. This will be SimCity Box which includes SimCity Deluxe(SimCity 4 + SimCity Rush Hour} and also SimCity Societies. EDIT: For that matter you can also find it at Best Buy and Target for the same price. Many a times there is a bargain rack that has a copy of Deluxe on it, too. Haven't seen it in awhile but you may get lucky at your locale.
  7. Hi Selphy and welcome aboard! You are definitely on the right track by reading the articles in the Omnibus. Take a look at this article, too. I think if you try this method it will allow you to get a better grasp of the interactions between the different zones. It also allows you to see how transportation affects things at a very simple level. It did it for me and hopes it works for you, too.
  8. Totalitarian here and I give them everything and they need nothing.
  9. Nexis Wood Pile Props

Tx!!! More props for my lots.
  10. HBS Wal-Mart

Yeah!!! Now my sims can enjoy the new facelift like in RL. Thanks so much!
  11. Transport Planning And Grids

I like to build grids as a framework. I then go back and restructure to suit.
  12. Cherokee Rural Sheriff

I use this in my SPAM tiles. As always SIMFANATIC is the number one police vehicle vendor in my cities.
  13. Just like in real life too high taxes stifles growth. I only use high taxes early in the development of my city. I do this to keep R$$$ away and until the city is fairly developed. I also use it later on to discourage ID. At that point my populations IQ is high enough to encourage the building of IHT. This is where I start to do some rezoning.
  14. Co-Supporting Cities

This game is very much playable with Windows 7. I have the 64 bit and the only problem has been with SC4 Mapper. So, I use Terraformer instead. Not a showstopper since it will allow you to do the same - mostly create/import custom maps into the game. I did have an issue with SC4 Startup Manager but was able to fix that easily. EDIT: In fact, I use to run this in full mode but now run it windowed mode. Something that seemed slower in XP for me.
  15. San Paso

The effort you put into making the map was not wasted. It adds another dimension to your presentation and spatially ties together the different parts of San Paso. I like it. Looking forward to more.
  16. Omnibus?!

I'm glad its back!! The Omnibus was one of the reasons that I kept on coming back to ST when I started to play SC4. I still continue to use time and again.
  17. SC4 Tools Support Page

When I try to add a folder with the "move to download" option unselected it adds the contents but marks them as missing. When I add the files manually it doesn't do that. I choose not to move my files to the preselected download area because I have them organized in a certain way and would like it to stay that way. Is this a bug? Also when I do a multiple select using the check boxes to delete entries it doesn't work. If I try to highlight and use the CTRL method to do multi-select it won't do a multi delete.
  18. The Best Processor To Play Sc4?

If you have CoreTemp you won't need SpeedFan. Some people prefer one over the other. Are you using the stock cooler or aftermarket? If running aftermarket, did you apply the proper amount of thermal compound? Also, try heading over to the OCN for more tips regarding your particular proc and setup.
  19. Random Explosions Caused By Tanks

Check for the Gaddafi Mod...LOL...sorry I couldn't help it.
  20. The Best Processor To Play Sc4?

First thing I would do is to open up your case and blow it out. If it has any case filters then clean those, too. Blow out any dust that may have accumulated in your heat sink. Then like Erbush said get Speedfan and monitor your temps. Check BIOS to let you know what temp autoshut of is set at. You will probably need to get a good aftermarket HSF (Heat Sink Fan). They are worth it. Also, are you overclocking or running stock? If the former then you definitely need an aftermarket HSF. Part of the equation is what the ambient temp is. EDIT: Just read the Moose's post so disregard this if it is a laptop.
  21. anyone using the cam

Just from the name, I can tell you "no." Anything that changes jobs or demand is not CAMpatible. There's a thread called CAM - inCAMpatible Mods which is quite useful. From the first post in the thread: Thanks much Z1.
  22. anyone using the cam

Is the Jobs Doubler Mod v2 by Bones1 cam-patible?
  23. Have you considered using SC4 Startup Manager? It can help you reduce how much of your plugins is loaded into memory. This is specially useful if you know you have regions which you won't be using certain plugins. Its also pretty useful for troubleshoot conficts without having to drag and drop folders in and out of the plugin folder. EDIT: It also will allow you to hide some of those regions that you don't use often from the main menu. Having them show back on the menu is as easy as dragging and dropping. EDIT: Startup Manager uses those desktop.ini files so if you do use some sort of automatic cleanup you should mark them for exception.
  24. SimCity Startup Manager won't work

This link above seems to go into the bit bucket. I realize that this probably has to do with the current upgrades. Does someone have a working link to the SUM support thread? TIA. Probably this one... (Link ) Thanks!!! I was able to resolve my issue and posted it on that thread.
  25. SC4 Startup Manager - manage your plugins!

Anyone here using SC4 with Win 7? It seems to work fine except for when you try to go back to the program after exiting your city. EDIT: I just heard back from JeanLuc and he recommended I use this config (sumhkmodule.ini) and it worked. Yeah!!!! [sumfcserver] FileControlMethod=sumnjserver, sumfmserver Reorder the "FileControlMethod" to: [sumfcserver] FileControlMethod=sumfmserver, sumnjserver
