as we can all see most new developments have little cul de sacs and dead ends lets see which is more popular dead worm streets are notorious for getting lost in especially if they are littered everywhere and the house your looking for is at the end of one. new neighbourhoods also have curved street to slow traffic down apparently it also has this weird effect of you looking down the street all the time its hard to look straight ahead constantly. the streets are very wide. old neighbourhoods usually have the rigid grid iron pattern this is especially prevelant throughout the USA . the streets are usually narrow with cars parallel parking on the side reducing them to one way streets parking is a problem. there are lots of junctions so being lost is still a problem but you don't have to turn back. people drag racing down streets can be a problem which the straightforwardness can induce. basically do you like dead worm streets or grid iron or something else?

So, about that half of all marriages ending in divorce thing...
saltandsauce replied to Duke87's topic in Current Events
hmmm divorce yes divorce has totally ruined a lot of my classmates lives i know 8 people who's parents got divorced and they all were hit HARD one of them was my cousins mother (not blood relative) was cheating on her husband (my blood uncle) and she had the cheek of expecting the kids to follow her. nevertheless the kids told her to shove it where the sun don't shine and they live with their uncle. nobody has seen her in a year. gone is the society where "children first" was the norm. if you have kids don't expect to have nights out every week. their lives becomes before your leisure even if parents don't "love" each other they can stick around and not just shout and bawl at each other for the sake of the kids there is a difference between love and loathe and a lot of people consider marrige to be ended when the "love" fades instead of when you can't look at each other without hitting each other. as for widows/widowers personally i think if kids are involved then you shouldn't get remarried the new wife/husband will never be the kids mum/dad also why is it that mothers always get the kids never the dads -

Pre-Incorporation Forests -- do they matter?
saltandsauce replied to Nell's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
if you have a city with no forest the city indicators will cap the maximum environment to 50% if you have lots of trees is sticks to 90% and doesn't move much -
The Capital of the World!
saltandsauce replied to spacenuteskimo's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
we will only ever need a world capital when another planet is diplomatically active otherwise it's just silly -
the first case : that woman can decide her own fate i can't find out about the baby since the internet won't let me but if she wants to die then she shouldn't have life thrust on her. the second case: those twins are going to be reliant on blood transfusions for their entire lives and they would die horribly if say stocks were depleted, however they will still die horribly after birth besides there is no such thing as general "religion" as such the only religion that objects to blood transfusions are jehovas witnesses so stop the religion bashing, no Christian denomination, Muslim denomination or any others that I can think of object to giving/receiving blood also those children are going to have those parents for their life imagine that. the twins are probably going to die of anemia,

these are the arguments i absolutley cannot stand stop the bible bashers and stop the raging hypocritical atheists who are trying to force their "non religion" on us is it really that important? religions biggest purpose is to bring people together (they ALL (except atheism) have gathering places of some sort) lotsof people love to point out that religions mix like olive oil and syrup is how the world began that important? the creation story works better because no time scale is involved and is explainable to children (who are most likely to ask) you know there was a bang (where'd the bang come from?) hold on dear let me finish. and a great big pile of matter appeared. ( whats the matter?) and for a very long time about 15 billion years later (did it get bored?) the matter cooled down and formed hydrogen and helium (what's that?) and through gravity this pulled itself together and... (relise the child is asleep) the creationism story works best for kids and its kinda like santa claus you get to realise ther is no magic when your older but being told when your five that santa doesn't exist and you just get to bug mum about what you want for Christmas. and yes your mother really did get you that jumper and blamed it on "old man fashion sense" so keep it that way. in short its better for curious kids but you get to ruin it by telling them about evolution (i just did the big bang theory but you get the picture) well for starters none of us were there so nobody will know for sure. science stay 10 feet away from religion *whack* the notion is passed

I'm all for having cold, portable water available but is there some reason we can't use water from our own time zone? Why do we spend energy shipping goods across the country via tractor trailer? It is much cheaper, energy wise, to use freight rail. Trucks are good for the short haul, from the train depot to the stores. and it would get most of those huge trucks off of the highway. Reducing traffic is a good thing. The long haul truckers might not like this but they aren't happy spending $1,000 to fill up their tanks as it is. I've had a hybrid car for almost 4 years now. I think it's great. I recently calculated that I've saved over $3,500 in gas. What's not to like? I've heard guys say that they will buy a hybrid when it comes in a convertible or a pick-up truck. I believe that time will come.quote> i just get the bus

The UK's Most Pointless Highways
saltandsauce replied to p4p3rc1ip's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
the Glasgow M78 completion dumping more traffic onto kingston bridge will not make traffic ease up the USA and the UK are opposites on transport terms the USA are for raising spped limits, increasing curve radii, wider lanes the UK is for lowering them and making driving a real pain the USA likes motorways and invests money into keeping them smooth and comfortableto drive in the UK barely keeps the roads level and never fills in potholes the USA like investing in reopening railway lines to ease congestion the UK likes raising fares and privatisation (which also gets huge subsidies) to ease congestion -

Should schools should have school uniforms?
saltandsauce replied to Hahayoudied's topic in Current Events
since i attend state school i know these people off hand and yes the stereotype is generally true however find one of those people on their own and very few are still the same nobody cares what they wear if yuo wear a uniform the only situation where you'd be like "oh jeez i hate this (exlpletive) uniform" is if its luminous pink or luminous orange or yellow which so far i have yet to find both my uniforms are just a plain white shirt and the school tie and dark plain trousers. which is just like an office and nobody moans about office wear do they? -
seal populations are rocketing which is putting an even bigger strain on fish and the only reason anyone cares really is because they're so damn cute why am i in a discussion full of self haters?

The Current State of the American Education System.
saltandsauce replied to Easy Bakes's topic in Current Events
one thing you definatley DON'T need is more bloody resources in the UK our government spent lots of money to try and get some pupils to listen the biggest investments were new school buildings - claiming the old buildings are not built for purpose despite the fact they were built to educate kids and they have done and would have done before it was conveerted into flats which wasn't its purpose (maybe for about £200 they could upgrade the place to a deathtrap) whiteboards - pointless predecessor to the electronic whiteboard. the only difference is the pens makes you high and the board gets dirtier quicker but you need special chemicals to clean it where blackboards only needed dihydrogen monoxide to clean them electronic whiteboards pointless electrification of something that does not need electrifying they get misorientated they cost £2500 a pop and teachers tend to use the whiteboard pens on these boards and vice versa leaving a permanent marking on the electronic boards they break down < a lot of schools got rid of the black/whiteboard to fit this in and teacher has to dictate to the class they get viruses < most computers still use the internet and remember: pupils use these. they're slower < the teacher draws a line on the board and 20 seconds later it appears a lot of teachers can't use them properly < by "properly" i mean effectivley, there is nothing electronic boards offer over regular water is cheaper than the cleaner for whiteboards certainly. and clapping erasers is probably more effective than any punishment excercise i've seen computers and IT encouraging pupils to play on computers and memorise pointless acronyms which is certifiably never going to be useful no matter what. What's worse is this is apparently a real subject and you can sit an exam for this EDIT: acronyms such as WAN, LAN, ASKII etc. etc. a lot of teachers hate the TYPE of resources forced on them my sister who teaches geography in england has several filing cabinets dedicated to worksheets she has no intention of using if it were up to her she would only have her 7 textbooks and she'd write all the work on the board instead of trusting pupils with textbooks money does NOT need pumped into the system we need discipline and teach some lazy parents a lesson! and if you think poverty is a good reason think again ask anyone over 50 from a poor background they can do their tables, spell and read hardish text and some have amazing mental arithmatic -
Should schools should have school uniforms?
saltandsauce replied to Hahayoudied's topic in Current Events
Sweet jesus no. Kids MUST wear uniforms or you end up with these losers http://www.dtbmusic.com/gallery/emo%20kids.jpg or these nutters (offensive but impossible to find photo evidence of their existence without that) http://www.glasgowsurvival.co.uk/pictures/nedGal25.jpg in school you are there to LEARN, not to fight, swear or have high spirits . uniform doesn't give you school pride unless you meet a pupil from a rival school. nobody can tell who's rich or skint since everybody wears the uniform however the condition may give your families' income away. as for not allowing pupils to wear religious symbols that is why they invented faith schools even though i attended a catholic school which was just as crap as the other comps in the county i was probably one of about 4 Catholics in the whole school anyway. no uniform means that pupils group together based on more sane values like the actual person since they can't identify each other culturally -

Canadian-American oil discovery : Updated April 12
saltandsauce replied to Micah's topic in Current Events
seriously a lot of people are getting ripped off in this "green" fad 40 years ago they thought we were going into an ice age B&Q sells mini wind turbines for £2,500 which would take about 50 years to recoup the costs in saved heating or electricity bills double glazing is the same if you don't need new windows and have single pane windows they'd take the same ridiculous amount of time to recoup costs plastics are the biggest consumers of oil NOT combustion i think that oil fired power stations are a stupid idea along with natural gas fired power stations since gas and oil are under a lot of strain which is why hybrid cars are also useless since natural gas is in short supply already -
extremely popular with teens and preteens? i have yet to hear anyone say "did you see naruto last night?" and im still in high school
