I'd like to see actual advancement over time like in SC3K, all puzzle pieces as draggables, realistic commute times (it shouldn't take a whole day to drive across a small downtown), water above sea level, weather, and random disaster options.

For giving an individual identity to Sims in the city, certain Sims out of the masses should be chosen for tracking of their daily life, rather than cutting the pop. so everyone can be tracked.

How do you build a realistic looking airport?
Cob92 replied to DEMCAD's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
If the cities are linked, the demand boosts given by airports will spread to all of them. However, in order for this to work, there must be a functional airport lot in the airport (one that shows usage and service quality statistics when queried). As I mentioned earlier, I use the functioning medium terminal piece from the SWAP so that the airport will actually serve its purpose and then connect all the eyecandy stuff from the ACE and RMIP. Since the medium terminal is meant to be a modular component, I can create a function modular airport. The only problem is that the color and texture of the medium terminal do not match those of the ACE pieces. -

Simoleans are worth many times more than a U.S. dollar, just look at the costs of the buildings. The 1000 simoleans a month probably translates to a couple million dollars a month. The tax system is good, in real life, there are taxes based on income levels, akin to the low, medium, and high wealth of SimCity. I just want to see the return of zoned seaports and airports and the ability to expand your city to avoid having to spread a metropolis across 6 large city tiles. Also, all low and medium wealth houses should only have a capacity of 6-7 AT THE MOST. Last time I checked, most houses do not have 10 people living in them. High wealth mansions should be 8-9 at the most. Highways should have an option to have 4 or 5 lanes per side. Large factory complexes and oil refineries should employ thousands of Sims. -
Of course this scenario would work. I've done it many times in the past and am currently using in my region. All you need to do is ensure that a good supply of I-HT demand exists. In the neighbor, raise I-D and I-M taxes to 20%. Create industrial zones, making sure that they are watered, away from pollution, that they have parks, and that they are near a neighbor connection (use the one to the large city.) Run the game at Cheetah speed until you have satisfactory development.

Is There a mod for stopping the funding problem??
Cob92 replied to timeline_9611's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Use the large schools. Try to slow growth. As in RL, too much growth too fast can overload a school or healthcare system, causing a massive spike in the costs needed both to fund existing facilities as well as construct new ones. For health, you have two choices. Either download larger hospitals from the STEX, or build many hospitals in the same area. -

I use the medium terminal from the SWAP to give the airport functionality, and then I use the ACE pack and RMIP to build the rest. It's not perfect, but it'll have to do until the ACE pack becomes a functioning airport (if ever). -
What Building Style Do You use
Cob92 replied to timeline_9611's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I have them cycling, almost like there is a repeating series of architectural fads in my city. -
A world capital should be set up the same way that the U.S. capital was: build a seperate city on neutral territory for the sole purpose of being the seat of goverment. That way, no one country owns the city and there are no more disputes. As I said, the U.S. did the same thing choosing the capital because most of the states viewed themselves as countries at the time and a neutral city was built to settle the conflict that would have erupted had the capital been placed in an individual state.

I plant trees everywhere when I want to raise desirablity. Water pollution has never been a problem for me, the treatment plant is actually among the top few cheapest buildings in my city. It's only $350 a month in maintenance, and I have millions in cash reserves.

Why does everyone like to put higher taxes on $$$? They don't cause any trouble in the city. Personally, I tax everyone at 9%, except I-D and I-M. Their taxes are dependent on which city I'm playing.

DEMCAD, your airport's taxiways could use some work. I'd suggest downloading the SWAP to get proper turns and diagonals. You also went a little over the top with the length of your runways. -

schm0, that's only in mods. Jayith is talking about changes that need to be made to the basic, unmodded, store shelf version of SimCity. -
As far as game play mods, I only have two (excluding the NAM). They are the Industry Quadrupler and some mod the cuts back abandment by changing the desirabilty threshold. The overall gameplay, however, is still very much similar to default Rush Hour play, except that now I no longer need a whole large city packed with high density industry to provide sufficient jobs. Just one question, is there a lesser version of the Industry Quadrupler available, like an Industry Doubler, or Tripler.

My suggestion, similar to Spinmaster's post, would be to keep SimCity and The Sims as seperate games, but allow players who own both of them to play them in a connected manner. For example, you build a massive city in SC. Then you go into the Sims and play as some guy living in an apartment near downtown. The way the city was built in SimCity would have a major impact on the kind of world that the Sim lives in. Suppose this guy's apartment building happens to be in a crime ridden ghetto. When that Sim ventures out into the neighbohood, they would be more likely to get into fights with street gangsters, the local venues would be dumpy and frequented by all manner of 'undesirables'. At home, robberies would be much more likely. The general idea is: in SimCity, you get to be the classic all powerful mayor of the city while in the Sims, you get to be someone who lives in that city, the choices you made as mayor affecting your Sim life, and vice-versa. The best thing about this idea is not only would it preserve SimCity as we know it, but it could be an effective marketing strategy for EA, making it more of a real world possible concept. Since the connectivity of the games would encourage people to buy both, profit for them would skyrocket. And no, I'm not kissing up to EA, I'm just saying that anything that we want for the future of SimCity would would have to benefit them, otherwise there is a 0% chance of it happening.

This is worse than city life, at least you could build a skyscraper megalopolis in that game that had a pop. of 15 million
-
If you want it to look like Houston, you will need to use maxis highways, as they are the only thing that comes close to looking like the real thing.

This is no bug. As C0ckatoo-210893 stated, the variable speed automata option is the cause. It is enabled by default and turning it off will eliminate the speed effects. The automata will move at turtle speed no matter what the simulation speed once this is done.

Build the pumps outside of the water pollution radius. Place a water treatment plant next to them. Connect your pipes to it so it filters all the water in the city. To get rid of industrial air pollution, first you must have a university. Second, education levels must be at least 100 for all sims. Third, all other industries must have a 20% taxrate. Once those condtions have been fulfilled, create watered industrial zones with lots of parks and trees, away from pollution, but near a neighbor connection. As the hightech sector grows, gradually destroy your dirty and manufacturing industry. If you have unlocked the nuclear power plant, you can eliminate power plant pollution IF you have enough money.

Ideas for onlineplay in future simcity versions
Cob92 replied to aking88's topic in City-Building Games
I only said it was something that might improve upon the concept described at the beginning of this thread, which already sounds very similar to civilization, the only difference being that it has simcities in it. It would be better called SimUniverse, as I said previously. I never said that warfare should be an integral part of the next SimCity. -
As of now, the STEX only contains one station for the avenue GLR and, although it serves its purpose, it is also an plain eyesore that desperately needs visual improvement. Why doesn't anyone ever make these, their absence sucks so much of the value out of GLR?

I think that monorail should be converted into a Light Rail style network, complete with elevated, ground level, and subterranean sections. They should be able to link to each other in the same way as LR, but should retain the speed benefits that monorail has.
