  1. Vertical Farming

If you think about it, at some point we're going to have to do something like this, because the world is going to run out of room to build. Hopefully we don't cut down all the trees before we realize this, or we're gonna be in a lot of trouble lol... You can compare it to SC in that if you zone a section low density residential, you've only going to provide room for so many people, but if you zone it higher and they build tall apartment buildings then there's more room. We're gonna have more bigger cities in a hundred years...either that or people are going to have to start moving to North or South Dakota haha Yeah, I can tell Pegasus read the same magazine I did, because one of the models for the Sky Farm is exactly the same as the picture I took from the magazine. Good magazine btw if you're interesting possible future technologies and such. Here's the Sky Farm thread in case anyone is too lazy to go look for it yourself lol http://simpeg.com/forum/index.php?topic=3663.0 http://simpeg.com/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=225b10a4afeedc43acf18d50a7112c07&board=86.0
  2. I wasn't sure if this was a request, or just asking if the concept is even possible, so if it belongs in the request thread I won't be offended if a mod moves it I was reading the July 07 Popular Science, and I saw an article about vertical farming...and of course, the first thing I thought was, "Man, that would be so cool to have in SC4!" The concept is, that since Earth's population is growing so fast, we'll have to have more farms to support the increase in population. Problem is, to reverse global warming we're supposed to be planting more forests, not cutting them down for farmland. So one scientist proposes we build up instead of out with farms. Here's a couple concept pictures: The building would be 30 stories high, making enough food and water for 50,000 people a year with no waste. The building would filter the sewage through a series of plant filters and zerba mussels for irrigation. So my question is, would this be a feasible concept in SC4? I've never played around with modding this game, so I don't know what's possible and what isn't. I don't know if it's possible to zone inside a building, especially if you're trying to stack 30 zones on top of each other. If it was possible, maybe the building could just be set as a plopable industry, not a growable one. It would have to be connected to freight of some kind, so it could ship the food out to the residents. I imagine it would filter the water, so it would serve as a water treatment plant as well. It would have to be an expensive building, and maybe not be available until a city has reached a certain population level. Since this is something that we'll very likely be seeing in our own cities in 10-15 years or so, does this seem like a concept that could work in SC4? Let me know what you think, and maybe if enough people are interested this could turn into a request and someone with significantly more modding and artistic skill than I might be interested in making it. If anyone wants more information, I can quote more parts of the article for you describing this thing and the concepts behind it. Thanks for reading my novel!
