  1. New to Map Rendering

Ok, I don't know what was different or what changed, but I was able to render both the file you posted (Old Lyme) and the one I created with the Landscaping program. I then tried to render the second file I posted here yesterday (https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=19082 ) and that didn't work. At any rate, I was at least able to render two new regions which is what I wanted to do to alleviate some bordom from the default regions. So thank you everyone for your assistance.
  2. New to Map Rendering

I'll give that a shot tomorrow, thanks. I've downloaded the Landscape Designer and created a quick region. I got the same thing. I did notice one thing though. The layout of the cities in the region DID load correctly, but then nothing happened. How quickly does the hourglass come up? I've waited for something to happen for roughly 10 minutes but it doesn't appear that anything is going on.

In the mean time I've downloaded the Landscape Designer program that mkaustin suggested. Perhaps that will quench my thirst for new regions. Thanks for all your help. I wish I could get the STEX files to work.
  4. New to Map Rendering

I tried a different file and got the same thing. Would you mind taking a look at this file to see if you can get it to work? https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=19082
  5. I've been downloading BAT's from Simtropolis for quite a while and have developed quite a collection. Now I've gotten bored with the default regions and would like to download a few from the STEX. I've followed the directions from the Omnibus to the tee, but haven't had any luck rendering the map in game. I do the 4 finger salute of Ctrl, Alt, Shift, R...I find the file in My Documents yada yada yada, but once I select the .jpg, nothing happens. I've read that I should get the hourglass and then wait some time for the render to complete. I don't even get the hourglass. It's like I never selected the file. The window closes and I'm back to looking at a blank region. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Oh, the file I've downloaded is called 'Two Tributarys'. I selected that one to start with because it was a simple-looking map and wouldn't take too long to render.
  6. New Official BAT Request Thread

I was searching through the STEX yesterday and I have a suggestion or request for a BAT. I am a loyal, proud, 17 year employee of the US Postal Service (no gunning down people jokes, please) and I was, let's say, disappointed by the lack of quality Post Office BATS available. I have no idea how to create a BAT and really don't have much interest in learning all of the technical stuff involved. But I would be happy to consult whoever might attempt to make a realistic set of Post Offices. (Personally I'd love to see Simgoober do it, but beggars can't be choosers) The way I figure, there should be about 4 different styles of offices, from the small local office all the way to a full Processing and Distribution Center, normally seen near or around airports in real life.
  7. American Fire Vehicles

Fantastic models, a real welcome change to the boring Maxis units. Great job!!
  8. Is something wrong with the STEX?

My problem is that alot of the files have dependencies, and the dependency files have been locked by the admins. What good is a BAT if it can't be used due to the locked dependency?
  9. Jonestown State Penitentiary (C.J.)

Wow! Now that's creative. Keep it up, I'm interested in where this story is going.
  10. Roller Coaster Tycoon Lesson

You forgot one thing...it still wasn't anywhere as enjoyable to play as the first two games. I realize that I'm a nubie to this site, but for what it's worth, here's my theory on the change in developer and switch to 3D graphics. The popularity of the product, both for RCT and SC made alot of money for all hands involved. Expansion packs in the case of RCT and new development products in the case of SC also proved to be success stories. When the throngs of fans continued to enjoy their products despite having no new developments from the parent companies, these companies grew concerned. How were the brands continuing to gain fans and hold onto original fans? And how come they (the developers and publishers) aren't still making money from these fans? The fans, through sites like this one, developed their own 'expansion packs', custom modifications and add-ons...for free!! The intellectual and physical properties of the developers and publishers was, in their eyes, being stolen. So, how do they stop it? Publish new products with new developers in the hopes that the fans will flock to the new products and leave the old ones behind, thus killing the creativity of 'software pirates' who have hijacked them. Mind you, I still think it's lousy, but this is what I believe to be the case in at least these two scenarios. I love this site and can't believe the creativity that some of you possess. The problem, I think, is that EA and MAXIS can't believe it either and they want their toys back. Of course, just my opinion. What do I know?
