  1. New Official BAT Request Thread

Hah. The image just meets the requirements for height. In any case, I'd love to see someone make the Manzanares solar updraft prototype power plant, or an equivolent-sized solar-updraft tower. Some stats: 244 meters in diameter (approximately a 16x16 lot) produced only 50 kW of power (36 MWh of electricity per month). Chimney was 195 meters tall. I don't expect an exact duplicate, just a solar updraft power plant, really. They're costly to build, but have an extremely low maintenance requirement, seeing as they only have the turbines at the base of the chimney as moving parts, everything else is concrete and glass. The pictured power plant is the only power plant of its type to ever have been built, though there are two potential towers to be built in the future: one in Australia and one in Spain. The Australian tower will be huge; the collection base being 7 km in diameter with a chimney of 1 km tall... it'll be the world's tallest structure if built. I don't want to build a city that consists of only the power plant, obviously... The Spanish updraft tower (Ciudad Real Torre Solar) will be a bit smaller, with a base of 350 hectacres and a tower that is 750 m tall; it is still huge, but will have a square base. If this were made in SimCity, it'd be on a 117x117 lot, but it would produce 40 MW or 28800 MWh of power per month. If scaled down to the Manzanares prototype, it might produce 380 MWh of power per month. In any case, what I would like to see is the Ciudad Real Torre Solar tower on a scale of the Manzanares tower; 16x16 lot, produces double/triple the power of a wind plant, has a rather high building cost (approx. 10,000), but an extremely low maintenance cost and a very long life span. A good figure might be 3-5 cents per MWh, or a maintenance cost of $12-$20 for 400 MWh/mo. or $18-$30 for 600 MWh/mo. ... or something similar. I feel rather long-spoken for my first post, here.
