Downloading anything is always risky, but careful planning should always avert most disasters. If you don't have access to original installation files, one can still make a back-up copy of the Program Files folder to burn to hard storage, along with a copy of any relevant registry entries so that the game can be forcibly and manually reinstalled. So long as one still has the original unlocking key this should work in 999 cases out of a thousand.

Not using Steam, but any lag is frustrating, and I have it. I wish (hope) for a mod (or patch upgrade) that either makes the top-level build buttons jump directly to the last used setting (eg Industry -> Commercial -> High Density if that was the last used.) . For many purposes, with my style of building that would remove a substantial number of the lags I, personally, experience.

I had a couple of hours with it last night until damned Windows decided to restart after sneakily installing a batch of updates. Teach me to play in the small hours. At least it wasn't a CTD which was my first irritated thought. On balance I liked the improvements and feel it's worth the $20 I paid. Apart from previous posters' observations about some of the remaining glitches I was disappointed to find that still no-one has thought to make the build buttons load to to the last used setting. I lost count of the number of times I accidentally dropped a filthy heavy industry block into my city centre while flipping between road building and lot dropping. Having to constantly work through to the last used road button and then again to the last used lot type is chore. I wonder if Focus could be persuaded to consider this an option for a patch ... or maybe some enterprising modder could do it.

I must admit that I enjoyed the trailer when I saw it for the first time a few minutes ago, Amused to see it being discussed here, though. LOL

Er, yeah, you're right about that. I downloaded the files from the alternative source but it confused me by asking me where I wanted to install it ... I'm really rather dumb at the fancy stuff LOL -

Lovely utility. Thanks to Wou for creating and Ynterboy for hosting. My NAV also reports no infection. I've had no trojan warnings at all. The only hassle I had, was discovering that I needed the latest Directx build and Firefox didn't like MS's handy little authenticity plug-in so I had to fire up IE ... -
I have d'loaded the NAM cos I like the idea behind it but ... It's an executable, fair enough but there's no Read Me in the archive. Maybe I am just stupid but I am going quietly nuts here trying to navigate my way around the site.Either I am lucking out big-time or else way too many links are either dead or circular (eg I gave up trying to find a download link for the Street Side Mod )... er ... back to NAM ... I'm getting a forum error 102 when I click NYRA1's Modding Nook link and stnam.com is down. Wossup widyawl? Much as I'm a trusting soul I am not installing something without seeing what it is.
