Custom Content In CXL : How Will It Work?
conllo replied to LBII's topic in Cities XXL Custom Content Creation

It'll probably cut the amount of people willing to contribute to custom content by at least 50%, maybe even as high as 90. I don't want to send my work off to a company only to have them profit off it in some way or another, probably through the PO. If CXL is so technical (to a point where a modding/ lotting system similar to the one in SC4 wouldn't work), then at the very least MC should provide us with a set of blank template 'lots', which then allow creators to make their own models and integrate them into the game ourselves - automatically. No modding needed. Bottom line is that if MC are going to have a monopoly on custom content then I don't want anything to do with it. [/knee jerk reaction] quote> I my self am one of those people who would look forward to the opportunity to provide custom content, however I think you hit the nail on the head, because unlike SC4 this is a live online game (MMO) and not a standalone play only off line, if this were not so then they would not have the abilities of offering expansions, or special buildings in the game. Residing in the fact that your custom content maybe beter than what MC has to offer it is no different however when you create custom content in SC4, when you create that content you post it for others to use as well and if your intent is only to braging rights, then I would highly quess that SC4 and simtropoliss forums is the perfect place to shout about. But if you are able to create custom content in CitiesXL, it will probably be along the lines of what MC determines will be needed based on player demand and allow players to submit their creations and they would select. But besides all that train of thinking it would assinine in thinking that at the very launch of the game, that players would be hammering for new content without ever having seen the completed game to begin with, it's a bit early for that I think personaly I look forward to playing the game upon it's release and enjoying what I can get and maybe later the thoughts of custom content would be cool, but if it were realy that damn important to begin with that why not start your own MMO to begin with. Just my thoughts Conllo -
While I expect that I will have to catch up on the actual techniques used for modeling in "Sim city" type game I am very well versed in 3d studio max and maya, as the information comes out I will be diving Feet first and hope to contribute to the custom content for Cities XL, im new to the site but have been an avid fan of city sims for years, maybe an idea if it's not already out there is forming some custom content teams, my self I have spent much of my creation time in HL mods, contructing landscape and building, moding for special groups like swg. But anyway this wasnt about giving my resume as much as anticipation to play the game and hopefully help to provide some of the custom content were posible, I have already purchased the pre order and look forward to game play!

I have not seen this reported else where, but what I noticed as being very anoying is that the menu interface Like to zoom in and out selecting the avatars or buttons like residential, common, dense etc are off set, in other words I have to move the mouse away from the buttons before I am actualy able to make my selection, like when selecting the zoom feature using the buttons instead of the mouse wheel it keeps selecting the rotate feature when I wanted it to zoom, almost like the mapping for the UI buttons is skewed. As I have only played for the duration of the trial, I didnt find other things problematic, I have pre ordered the game with great expectations.
