What do you think of Vancouver??
KinFreon replied to urbanculture's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
The SkyTrain is one of the things that makes Vancouver awesome, IMO. What's really sweet is getting the front seat facing the forward direction of travel. On the older trains, it's kinda cramped. But on the newer trains, the larger front window provides for good viewing. Gives you the impression that you're the train driver. The SkyTrain is also so awesome, that the same carriages and technology are in use on other rail systems; notably the Detroit People Mover and the New York City JFK AirTrain. Meanwhile, the SkyTrain can be seen in the video game "NBA Street" (which was developed in Vancouver), and played a role in Hollywood as the "Seattle Interurban" in the John Woo film, "Paycheck". -

Butte, Montana - 35,000 Tacoma, Washington (my real hometown) - 186,000

Butte, Montana, (where I live) used to be the headquarters for the Anaconda Copper Mining Company; which had underground and pit mine operations in Montana and Chile. Sadly, once the Montana mines closed and the Chilean mines were socialized, Anaconda Mining became no more than an environment liability for ARCO, and thus BP. Today, we're the headquarters for Resodyn (a chemical and biotech company) and Town Pump (a regional conglomerate involved in petroleum refining, gas stations, convenience stores, casinos, car washes, truck stops, and lodging), as well as home to a major silicon manufacturing plant for Norway-based REC. For such a small town, we have a lot of business.

Originally posted by: villagemayor Off topic: I heard it has the cheapest and best sushi and japanese food in Canada. Is that true?? So luckyquote> That is correct. So cheap, there are many places that serve sushi "all you can eat" style. One notable place, Taisho in the Metrotown Mall, even serves it off of a conveyer belt. The "cheap sushi" may be because Canadian fisherman have all the access to prime Inside Passage fishing waters, which has been a point of contention with American fishers. Any way you slice it (no pun intended), Vancouver's a good town to get sushi. -
The Portland & Oregon BAT Team, Chapter 1
KinFreon replied to sparkythepenguin's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
That's a nice building, though I barely remember the BofA tower in my travels to Portland. As for the rest of the BATs, I dig how Portland is faithfully recreated in SimCity form. When I lived in Tacoma, Portland was my favorite city to travel to. And with that in mind, I hope to see both the Palms Motel and the Alibi done up for SC4, because both of those places made up most of my travels (I love karaoke night at the Alibi). -
Unfriendly Rivalries between cities
KinFreon replied to chix4free's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Historically, Seattle and Tacoma have had a rivalry; with both cities striving to be giants in world trade and the money & jobs associated with it. Although Seattle is the larger city in terms of population, Tacoma has a larger port. Also, in the 1800's, the Northern Pacific Railway--the first Transcontinental Railroad line in the northern part of the country--chose Tacoma over Seattle as its' western terminus. More recently, Tacoma beat Seattle in getting a light rail transit line. Even if it's only a mile-and-a-half long, just the fact that Tacome got it before Seattle is notable. Also, if it weren't for Tacoma, Seattle wouldn't have so many workers. Many of the people who work in Seattle are working-class commuters from Tacoma, since Seattle is mostly filled with yuppies and artsy-folk. [/Tacoman] -
If anyone makes anything from Houston, there should be the Compaq Center, er, the Lakewood Church. It'd be an awesome "House of Worship".
