Update 15 PhilsCafe- Thanks, glad you like the open spacesTwenty20- Thanks NMUSpidey- Yea its painful process Schulmanator- Well if the cat likes it, it must be good, thanks. And a cat that just watches? Sure, I believe that... also you got the 50th post, so grats Freida Here we visit Shelby's southern neighbor, which has not been unaffected by the growth in Shelby.First are two pictures taken before recent developments. Here is an overview of what the area looked like. Below is a commercial area near the intersection of the two main roads through the area, Here is the same area a few years later, a few more mid-rise buildings have developed. The main driver of the recent development of industry in the area, much of the farmland, especially along the more level areas is being turned into industrial parks Until recently, the area below was all farmland. Not everyone likes change, but with such a large city next door, it was only a matter of time till the farmers started to get kicked out. Shelby Here is a shot of a terraced development on a hill in Shelby, plans are underway to extend the avenue all the way down to the rail station to allow easier access. Soccer fields and a high school are down near the bottom of the hill, and this has been a popular place for development. Below is a picture of the small town of Disco within Shelby. It consists of a small downtown with parking surrounded by housing. Until recently, it was a decent distance from most Shelby developments, but the high rises are enchroaching on its territory. Thanks for looking, and any comments/suggestions/questions are welcome.

Update 14 atlasDX- Thanks, and at least the election is over now, no more campaign ads, woot!isthisit51- Thanks, I'm trying to make it the main method of transit boredtodeath- Thanks. I have had the though go through my head from to time about zug being german for train, but didn't link it with the CJ, funny how that works. NMUSpidey- Thanks, and I'll take a look at some of their stuff soon tazdog- Thanks, glad you like them jaqulina- Thanks lucky7- thanks Shelby Due to a sever lack of planning on my part, Shelby has increased to nearly 700,000 residents with an infrastructure that is not well suited to support them. Here is an overall shot of the city. (Click on images for large one) As you can probably see, the main rail line runs along the river and crosses it, but it doesn't really go inland which is causing problems for commuters. So now comes the real fun of running railtracks through existing developments. The photo below is of the area where rail will be expanding inland. The railtracks will start north of the airport and will head west (left) into the interior of the city. This is a pre- construction shot so that all can see the destruction that ensues(sp?). Here is a small park in Shelby with a lazy stream running in it. Here is the wind/solar farm that powers Shelby. Most likely this will eventually be moved into neighboring Redridge to make room for more development in Shelby. Any comments/suggestions/questions are welcome. Thanks for looking, and have a good day

If you right click on your shortcut icon, go to properties and paste "C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -Introff -CustomResolution:enabled -r1280x800x32 under the target area, you can set the -r1280X800X32 to whatever res you want.

Looks pretty good so far, I like how you have a less griddy city than many I've seen and made, good job.

Update 13- Shelby CBD With the massive rail corridor completed in Shelby, businesses have been knocking on our doors trying to get into our new CBD on the East side of the river. With the huge capacity of the mass transit in the area and the focus on maintaining some open space through parklands and plazas, and a beautiful riverfront view, it is where people want to be. Any comments/suggestions/questions are welcome, thanks and have a nice day.

Schulmanator- Thanks Anarchy0029-Thanks Update 12 Calumet to Dodgeville This update is a continuation of the main rail corridor that runs through the most heavily settled areas of Zug and connects the interior to the waterfront. The current corridor is designed to have a minimum of thre double tracks, and in some places gets up to six to handle current traffic and make room for future traffic. This first picture is Calumet just east of the stations you last saw. Almost immediately after those stations, the rail enters tunnels and comes out right here. The pictures are in order along the line, and you can click on them for larger images. Calumet This is just south of the previous shot and you can see the large windfarm which powers Calumet. This leads us into Chassell. Chassell is a heavily industrialized center, and the rail corridor allows for ease of movement of workers and freight. If you look closely, you can see, from top, a steam train, the normal freight train and a Class 87 passenger train. Here is a closer shot of the class 87, just south of the last picture, outside of the tunnel connection. From here we enter Dodgesville, which is the hub of rail travel in Zug, with its centralized location. It is also the location of the headquarters of the Zug Rail Corp, which controls all the heavy rail in the region. And here is the Zug Rail Corp headquarters, where all the trains come to be serviced, stored, or anything else that needs to be done. This place tends to be busy tending to all of our trains, and will need to expand eventually. Here are the regional shots, the red line approximately follows the rail corridor.

Land Of N'atah: The Journey Through The Dark Lands

Nice start, You've got my attention. -
Update 11 Schulmanator-ThanksPhilsCafe- Thanks. Its is surprising just how steep the roads will get in really hilly areas. Where Im going to school has some crazy steep streets. newyorkrunaway1- Thanks Houghton-Shelby-Calumet Rail Corridor Here are some pictures of the main rail corridor connecting Houghton, Shelby, and Calumet. Rail is the lifeline of Zug, and no route is more important than this corridor, which serves three cities with a total poulation over 1million. The pictures are in order starting in Houghton and ending in Calumet. This line is heavily travelled, and even with each station having 30k capacity, many are over capacity. The line is between 3 and 6 tracks for most of its length. If you click on the pictures, it should link you to a bigger image. Houghton Shelby Calumet Anyone questions/ccomments/suggestions are welcome.

Developing Nipigon Island - City Of Nature - Is It Going To Live Its Name?

I like your town, very nice, can't wait to see more. -
Update 10 PhilsCafe- Yea it is a bit repetitive now that you point it out, and I hadn't even realized that. I was more focused on the other stuff. I am working on improving that and decreasing the repetitiveness. I woudl like to say I have redone the first post to now contain the most recent regional view (and soon transportation view) and will keep it there so that it is easy to see. I am also going to post the images so you can click on them to see the large image which should be 1280*800 instead of 800*500. Region Small towns/ Rural Areas I have gone a different route with this update and am going to focus on some small towns and farm areas instead of my larger cities and industrial wastelands. Oskar Township Oskar is a farming community to the west of Freida, with one small town in its borders called Oskar. The image below is of the downtown area, I made use of some SmallTown USA stuff here and I like how it has turned out. A shot of the whole town. A shot of the township Freida This is West Freida, in the western part of Freida Township, which has recently constructed two large buildings to house farm workers. Many of the mroe prosperous residents complained that it ruined their view but we needed somewhere for them to live.

When I try to open my 6x6 large tile region in Region Census, it doesnt do anything and gives me an error message and this shows up: File "MyFrame.pyc", line 100, in mnuFileOpen File "sc4Region.pyc", line 114, in Load File "sc4Region.pyc", line 17, in __init__ File "sc4Dat.pyc", line 84, in __init__ File "sc4Dat.pyc", line 91, in _readHeader " File "sc4Dat.pyc", line 113, in _readIndex struct.error: unpack str size does not match format It opens other regions fine. Anyone know what the problem could be or where to look? I haven't had any luck searching the forums myself. Thanks

Very nice looking cities. What are those lines leading out into the water in the regional transportation view?
-
I didn't think that there were any subways there, those buidlings all fit right in. Very nice small town.

Hancock The area around the airport has become a popular place for industry, and seeing as not many people want to live near the airport, and industrial buildings don't tend to be very high, it seems to be a good deal for the area.First, our lovely garbarges. A dividing wall has been built between the airport property and the industrial areas to keep people out. High tech and some commercial buidlings right outside the main entrance to the airport Houghton With a population well over 300,000 people, and the high density building that is occuring, it has been decided to replace the trams with a subway system to save space, and turn the old tracks into parks and plazas. The rapid growth of the area has put much strain on the mass transit system, and I geuss I shoudl do something about it.Here are two shots of the last days of the trams. And with the huge increase in people travelling, we have finally gotten bigger HSR stations. (Its a monorail station, but I can't get any HSR stations to work.) these now can support many times the people of the previous stations, but some are still overcrowded.

PhilsCafe-Thanks, glad you like it, took me a bit to get it to look that way. art128-Thanks, I will. jacqulina-Thanks newyorkrunaway1-Thanks, and I'll keep that in mind Zug Territory The Zug Territory has grown past 600,000 people, woohoo!!!!. (It's amazing what zoning high density does) Calumet This is a major residential area with over 150,000 people who mostly commute to the industrial areas to the north in Hancock. These are shots of different areas in the city. The projects being built at the north end of the city to deal with the demand for housing Shelby Shelby is another city that has gone over the 100,000 person mark, and has seen much development since previous updates. This is the old area of town, which has small houses, and German Fachwerk style houses have become popular here. This is an overview of the heaviest settled art of the city, with the older area at the left up on the hill, and the new development is to the right of the HSR line. Many high density buildings are being put up to deal with the demand without using up all the available land. Thanks, next update should be showing the industrial parks developing around the Hancock airport.

Nice job giving your CJ that small town/country feel. May have to go to New England now.

Greater Modernopolis Region -Its over! Visit my new cj at the new cj section
Zezug replied to blue sinjid's topic in SC4 City Journals
Amazing looking city so far, I really liek the contrast between the High skyscrapers and the open land on the waterfront. -
newyorkrunaway1-Thanks, should be some development with it once I find some more stuff that will look good there. Zug A picture of the region followed by one showing the transportation. I would take the shots from Region Census, but I can't get it to load this region. This is mostly just to show where everything is in relation to each other. Clicking on them should take you to a larger image. Chassell Chassell is a heavily industrial are with a small residential community. It is on the major rail routes through the Territory, and has a small port. This here is the residential area, which has easy access to the HSR line that runs through the area. Here is an overview of the industrial area, look at that lovely, clean water. Here are some auto factories in the Industrial district,

Tall Skyscrapers/Buildings?
Zezug replied to ZooTycoonMaster's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Some of the really tall ones are downloaded off of the STEX and similar things, but these http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/6170/northvilleshoresdowntownclosee.jpg I think are mostly if not all maxis, and to get them to grow you have to have certain requirements met, for example: large amounts of demand for the types, higher land values, good transport, stuff like that. I think thats how it works, should be stuff in the omnibus about it, if I find it, ill post it here. -
Philscafe- Thank you, I couldn't remember the name at all jacqulina-Thanks Hancock Airport Construction has been completed on the first stage of the Hancock airport, just east of Houghton. While the airport has been opened for flights, parts are still under construction such as adding parking and other ammenities to it. It is connected to Houghton by HSR and road. Shelby Shelby has started on construction of a riverfront commercial district, and here are some shots of what has been completed. The last picture is an overview of most of the area and the farms near this development will probably be gone soon for more commercial/residential developments. Any questions/comments/concerns are welcome, thanks for reading.

First, I have a question for anyone who reads this, how do you take pictures of your entire region? Do you just use the in game view or is there a mod or program that you use? Houghton The population of Houghton has skyrocketed to 218,000 people, and the influx of people has finally lead to high rises arriving in Houghton. AT&T, our main phone provider has set up their Headquarters for all Zug operations in town. A night shot of the area near the AT&T building. The large increase in population has led to increases in air pollution in the city and plans are being put into place to help decrease the pollution. Part of this is increasing the amount of grass and trees all around, including within the industrial areas. Some empty area along the port was replaced with trees and grass areas to help increase the attractiveness of the area. Here is a picture of the ICE train that has been imported from Germany.
