  1. Here's my advice: 1. Don't surround the whole area with industry (it is kinda funny and you can get pollution problems especially if you have Dirty and Manufacturing industry). 2. Even though you have water pump, did you lay out the pipes? 3. The zoning needs to be fixed, just like what is stated above, and the mall that is there is very rare example of when a standard maxis building goes beyond 4x4 tiles. Make sure there is an arrow on a road at the base of the zone(wasn't sure how to explain it better but i hope you understand, i suck at explaining at times, lol). 4. It is best (on my experience) to start off a new town zoning light density and when appropriate start zoning medium and high (but that doesn't mean don't do it). 5. For this area if it is going to be an inner city area would be ok with nothing but roads, but in outer lying areas would be better to have a few streets mixed in, also for when it gets big would be good to have some diagonal roads as well. Ok i know i am missing a few things but hope what i have given helps.
  2. BIWDC is right about the cpu cores as SC4 was made back when cpu's on computers only had 1 core back then. For the SSD, it will run faster, but probably not that noticeable, you will probably notice it more with ALOT of mods installed, it will just generally load faster, but it also depends on the SSD or even HDD like the interface being SATA II or SATA 3 (there is like 1 for SATA 3 SSD as of now(FINALLY)) and for 10,000 RPM or 7200 RPM (for HDD only, it would be funny if an SSD would have internal moving parts) and so on. And BIWDC, get your terminology right, there is no such thing as an SSD HDD. SSD stands for Solid State Drive and HDD stands for Hard Disk Drive. Sorry, i just get reeeeeeaaaaaaallllllllly technical about this stuff. Also something that was not in the question and is a little off topic but with windows vista and 7, SC4 runs ALOT better than XP when you have the 64 bit version and alot of ram. That was the biggest performance increase i have ever seen with that game. I would install SC4 on my SSD to try it out but it only has 1.5 gigs of free space and the amount of mods i have is total to 5.7 gigs. Sorry if i went on too much.
  3. Actually Windows Vista is WAY better than Windows XP, and i have never had a problem with running SC4 on my 2 Vista comps. The specs of the first one (i gave this to my parents), 4GB DDR2 @ 800Mhz Ram, Geforce 9600GT with 512 Mb DDR3 video ram, Intel core 2 duo @ 2.53Ghz, and the second one, 12GB DDR3 @ 1600Mhz Ram, Geforce GTX 285 with 2 Gb DDR3 video ram, Intel core i7 @ 4.5 Ghz (over clocked); and both computers have windows vista home premium 64bit on them and they both run SC4 without any issue. Also i have upgraded an older computer to Windows 7 Release candidate (which was like $10) 32-bit and wondows 7 runs SC4 better than XP and this computer (the one that i am using to post this message) has 4Gb DDR @ 400mhz Ram, nvidia Geforce 9500 GT 1 GB DDR2 video ram, Pentium 4 at 3.4 ghz. Also people with older ATI Redeon grphics cards below Radeon HD 4650 would have trouble running SC4 too, but the newer ones have no problem and ATI is getting better recently. Remember, both windows vista and windows 7 were designed for computers with higher specs, but vista was released too early with a lot of bugs and had too high expectations with computer hardware. Also what i can say about Windows 7 is that it is Vista with "XP mode" feature for older computers, but windows 7 is not rushed like vista. All the bugs for vista is fixed now and Vista is better than XP even though i hated vista when it first came out, i hated going back to XP when my hard drive on my other computer crashed (NOT VISTA'S FAULT, actually winRar did it) i couldn't stand XP that i got the release candidate. To the topic, no i don't know what would cause this as i never experience this myself.
  4. Japanese building 5

Looks nice, but it looks more like a building built in the 60's in Queens.
  5. SimCity on a Netbook?

I don't think it would run too good if you have an external drive connecting through usb because even though usb 2.0 is "high speed" in reality, it is quite slow (only 400 mbs/s). Fire wire is not much faster, only 480mb/s. If you were to however use a newer port called eSATA (short for exernal SATA, i forgot what SATA stands for), it should run alot faster as eSATA 2.0 has 3gb/s for and 1.5gb/s for eSATA 1.0, but i don't think that netbooks have eSATA ports. I have seen netbooks with 1gb of ram, and 1ghz dual core CPU before, which may be plenty, just need to make sure that it has eSATA if you want to use external drives.
  6. City Wont Load.

Well i found that you can't plop alot of buildings and not run the simulation for them to register and saving and exiting the city will cause that problem too. Did you do that maybe?
  7. traffic air pollution

Actually there ARE lots that suck up pollution and they are called air purifiers. https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=18655 is one that works quite well and looks like a normal maxis factory here on the stex, but it DOES have one dependency and i don't know what it is but you don't need it for it to work. There are others too but all the ones that work (for me anyways) are off of japanese websites, only with the exception of the one i got from here.
  8. Game Randomly Stops

Pretty much this is a bug with the game that never got fixed, because i have had it happen to me multiple times even before i ever had any plugins. Most of the times it happens when i zoom out too rapidly. I have pretty much gotten used to it.
  9. game running slow

If you are running vista, you would need more RAM. Since vista on its own takes up 1GB and a half of ram, it only leaves you with 512MB to work with. Vista starts to work very good once you get 3 to 4 GB of RAM. This is just a thought really. May be relevant may not.
  10. Perfect Town

Here is some things to make sure you have: 1. Zone in high density (when you have a high enough population). 2. Have water to the zones. 3. Educate the sims good (doesn't always have to do if you got neighboring cities that are educated well). 4. Make sure the areas are desirable for CO$$ and CO$$$ (those will be your bigger sky scrapers. 5. There needs to be demand for CO$$ and CO$$$. 6. Have good transportation. Yeah i had problems too when i first started out but i figures what strategy works best for me and these are the things that i check before zoning (and ploping).
  11. Slower Sim City?

It would be your video card. Since it is an ATI Radeon card, sim city does not like ATI for some reason and wants the hardware to render it then the software. So to make it run good, go into the game video options and switch the rendering from software to hardware (I mite have got it backwards by the way, if so do the opposite). Yeah some things mite look ugly, but it should at least run good. Edit: as a system builder, i recommend that you stay with Nvidia because their cards are more powerfull and are supported by more companies (even though ATI deos give them some competition). Don't get me wrong or anything, that is just what i recomend. As a user, i have had better luck with Nvidia then i had with ATI.
  12. Looking for futuristic buildings!!

You can search KS_jpn on the stex, who has made some futuristic stuff and maybe try to search "corouscant" (i'm not sure if the spelling is right). I am sorry i can't link you to anything right at this moment i have either 1 forgot where i got then from or 2 lost the bookmark due to my other computer crashing. Oh yeah there was something that came out some time ago, they are small residential buildings that were called "modern walkups".
  13. Grids make a city real?

Grids to me are actually quite nice, and that is kinda why i prefer older neighborhoods where i live. I always hated the pointless "s" curbs and such. In the suburbs of New York City, it is mostly a grid, (and some other planned patterns that are not exactly grids that curb around only one way but does not snake or anything) and the grid changes every so often. Sometimes the grids are offset too. I have visited my family in Tokyo many times and there is a noticeable difference with the west side of the city (which is older) and the east side of the city (which is slightly newer). The west side of the city is very confusing and you need to know your way around because most of the neighborhoods and areas were kinda built in which ever way they would go without any real planning and the gridded areas are not very big (like 2 or 3 blocks). The east side of the city is a more planned out grid like area but the grids change a lot. Pretty much for expressways all snaking around and such, the concept came much later than what most of the property lines and cities that were built, so they had to demolish a lot or snake them around property lines, and in even build them over already existing roads (you can find them that way in Tokyo). Yeah but it won't kill me to not be on a grid or driving through a snaking newer suburban road.
  14. CAM - Colossus Addon Mod

I had a problem that up until recently have i been told that CAM was the problem. There was a mod that i downloaded that would replace and overwrite the Maxis lots. Well with the CAM installed, the Maxis lots will continue to show up and the mod will not take effect. A link to what i was talking about tokyo-urbanlab.jpn.org/Sim-Jpn-R-003-Info.htm for example. It shows what replaces what. So i removed the CAM and then these mods started to work. But upon removal, the economy pretty much crashed, which was the cost of removing the CAM. So really, in any future versions of CAM, can whoever is developing it, make it to where mods that overwrite maxis buildings work with the CAM installed. Sorry if this does not make any sence and is a bunch of jiberish(if it is), I am tired and will go to bed shortly from this post.
  15. Favorite Disasters

hmmm, mine would be either the autosaurus wrecks, the UFO, tornado, or volcano. Can't really decide between them. 3dpuzlemaster, that would be pretty neat.
  16. Simcity Creator Looks amazing!!

What do you mean amazing, it looks like crap.
  17. Vista Mods????

I'm seeing many of the same buildings which is annoying and ugly to look at after awhile. NAM, Industrial quadupaler, a water mod, deman mods are a good place to start. -Darcy Cardinal quote> Same here, I just copied the plugins and regions from the old one to the new one through the network and it all works just as it did on the old one.
  18. Well, I wasn't sure if this would go under this topic or bugs and technical issues. But here is an interesting phenomenon that i noticed while playing. There are these faint lines appearing on the map that are easier seen at night. These lines don't really bother me and it is probably a bug, but the game play is normal. Here are some pictures: You can see faint lines if you look close enough on the 1st and 2nd. The 3rd is where i traced over those lines with streets in the very same area. <edit> How do i get the images to be up here instead of down under my sig?
  19. There were never any streets there to begin with. And this is a brand new city, never been biult on before. <edit>Ok, yeah, I'm not going to have to go and upload to photobucket or make it an internet image just to put it in the post.
  20. i fooled around with the piano at the bottom for about 30 minutes lol. igot pictures of new york too but most of them are in the suburbs and queens and i rarely go to downtown so most of them are on long island.
  21. sounds interesting i draw alot and doodle at school i'll try to find something i can post there. EDIT: Oh wow this site looks nice. do i need to be a member? i guess i'm visitor 11. according to the bottom at this time.
  22. Sim City 4 Lagging

That's funny mine doesn't lag on both computers and the new one is and a custom build. the specs are: intel core 2 duo @ 2.53 Ghz 4 gigs of ddr2 800 ram (but plan to upgrade it to 8 soon) windows vista home premium 64 bit nvidia geforce 9600 GT graphics card i got little to no lag, beleive me. well i did notice that others were using ati graphics cards that mite be the problem but i don't know, i'm not saying it is. EDIT: I am running sc4 right now and on this site at the same time and the cpu usage meter is staying at a constant 55%. i doubt the processor causes problems but the game is minimized.
  23. The Greater Terran Region

Did you use hypercam or some other recorder? I don't like using the on game recorder because it is a small area that gets recrded. Everything looks nice and roads are built nicely.
  24. Scrolling Help!

I think you means scrolling up and down in the menu. I'm not sure of a mod, but you can use the scroll wheel in between the two mouse buttons. It is noticeably faster, but still not as fast as even what I want it to be. Does beat clicking the arrows and waiting for it to get to the building to appear. [edit] You have to position the curser over the menu to get this to work.
  25. Kitami

Wow, nice. You've got me beat bad. I have been to Japan so many times to visit my family, and your city looks alot like Japan. What tree controller do you use, if any? That's been bugging me since all tree controllers that I seen, some dependencies are not available to go with it. You have done a great job with it so keep up the good work. Somethign feels like it is missing though...
