There are a number of 3d modeling programs available, but most tend to be _very_ expensive (ie 3d studio max is a couple grand), a cheaper one I've used is Ray Dream Designer. A number of shareware ray tracing programs may allow you to create/modify .3ds files. Look around online, I'm sure they are out there, -A
